Substitute allows Kommo-o to punish switches or safely set up against Pokemon that don't pose a significant threat, as well as block status. Belly Drum enables Kommo-o to safely activate its Salac Berry behind a Substitute, allowing it to sweep more effectively. Drain Punch provides Kommo-o with much-needed recovery after using Substitute and Belly Drum, making it much harder to revenge kill. Thunder Punch allows Kommo-o to OHKO Pokemon like Tapu Fini, Toxapex, and Tornadus-T while also hitting other Fighting-resistant Pokemon, such as Reuniclus and Clefable. Frustration allows Kommo-o to effectively hit threats like Gliscor, Landorus-T, Mega Latios, Mega Latias, and various Fairy-types.
Set Details
========
52 HP EVs allow Kommo-o to always activate Salac Berry after Substitute and Belly Drum. The rest of the EVs are put in Attack to hit as hard as possible. Bulletproof grants Kommo-o an immunity to bullet moves like Gyro Ball, Shadow Ball, and Sludge Bomb, allowing it to set up on Ferrothorn, Blacephalon, and Mega Venusaur, respectively.
Usage Tips
========
Kommo-o should be used mid- or late-game as a sweeper when its checks are weakened or KOed. Kommo-o's best setup opportunities are on passive Pokemon whose attacks it resists, like Rotom-W and Ferrothorn, or attackers it can chase out like Ash-Greninja and Heatran. Make sure not to switch Kommo-o in directly even against resisted attacks, as the damage may prevent Kommo-o from setting up, making it useless offensively. Kommo-o is still slower than Choice Scarf users like Landorus-T, Kartana, and Tapu Lele even after a Salac Berry boost, and can be revenge killed if its Substitute is broken, so these Pokemon must be removed so that it can sweep. When facing status spreaders like Rotom-W, Gliscor, and Chansey, it's important to use Substitute before using Belly Drum.
Team Options
========
This set is best used on hyper offense teams due to its committal, high-risk, high-reward nature. Dedicated leads like Landorus-T, Mega Diancie, and Mew can set up entry hazards and prevent the opponent from getting their own hazards. Serperior is an excellent partner, offering Glare support, helping to break through Unaware walls with Taunt, and providing hazard removal. Magearna helps handle Psychic- and Fairy-types one-on-one, relieves Kommo-o of the pressure of checking threats like Ash-Greninja, and generally adds much-needed consistency to hyper offense builds. Mega Charizard X draws in Landorus-T and can thus force huge damage on it with Flare Blitz. Other physical attackers like Dragonite, Kartana, Mega Pinsir, and Gyarados are considered good partners in hyper offense teams, as they can force through shared checks for the other to clean up later in the game. This set can also be paired with dual screens users like Tapu Koko. Choice Scarf Tapu Lele helps Kommo-o from being prone to priority moves like Extreme Speed and Bullet Punch. Choice Scarf Victini is another strong option, offering Final Gambit support to help create setup opportunities for Kommo-o. Cresselia can use its Eject Button to disrupt Volt Switch from Rotom-W to stop it from switching out and bring Kommo-o in safely, and it grants Lunar Dance support to bring Kommo-o back in top condition for another chance to clean up.
