Even though we didn't even make playoffs, I wanted to write this post to give a big shoutout to my team and let the community know what great players they are. And hopefully, they’ll get drafted in future tournaments. We were one game away from having playoffs odds despite having no players with official tournament experience and only having 2 players that played the tiers in this tournament that alone is something to be really proud of.
One year ago, when I was grinding for my first CA, I saw that WCOP expanded to 20 teams and thought this is a great opportunity to get one. In 2018, we had a team that almost made it, falling just one game short. So going into last year’s tournament, I was confident we really thought that we had a chance. Hours messaging people begging to signup we ended up with a really cool roster and i thought this year is our chance to make mainstage.
But the complete opposite happened we only managed to get 4 wins out of 20. Despite that there was one thing that we took with us and that is the character we built during this tournament. Despite all the losses something important remained and that we never gave up. This is something what make the group special and really helped the team this year. We ended the year with @ojr’s motivational words at the end of the tournament telling the team that were not giving up and try next year again.
And so we did it this year. With Drud passing the torch to
ojr and
Chains of Markov to lead the team, we started asking players to sign up again so we could meet the minimum signups needed which to be honest is already a tough job on its own. But then something happened that I won't forget. One Saturday before the start of the tournament, I woke up to four pings saying that a “random” dutch player had won a live smogontour. And oh boy it turned out to be a crucial point for our run.
The goal I set for myself as manager going into this tournament was to slowly build up our reputation and maybe try to make Round 2 of the qualifier. Honestly, that was already a high bar for a team that only had 4 wins last year. But the team quickly proved me and many people wrong we ended up tied for second place, which I think nobody really expected. And that was just the beginning of many upsets we would get throughout the tournament. Saying it again team we made it so close winning so many matches people doubted us in is just unbelievable. And i hope you guys take this as a inspiration and keep pushing higher in tournaments.

Drud Thank you for being around again and helping to shadowmanage. You pulled off some great wins against strong opponents you were the UU player we needed this tournament.
Axzel Our SV carry you and ojr were really the sv engine of the team passing many teams. You are a great builder and got great wins agaisnt many spl players you really helped the team.
Jordy MR 5-1 (3-0 sheet) damn dude why didn’t you start last year? LOL. Your hard work is seriously something to admire. Preparing a month before the tournament, building your own teams, making sure you knew how to pilot them you totally deserved the record you got. Truly amazing what you pulled off.
Wesleyy People were saying you were in the demon pool of sv, but the only real demon in that pool was you. The record you pulled off in this group is something to be proud of. Let the haters hate, you 100% deserve it.
Ainzcrad After having you as my manager in a few Ubers tournaments, I already knew you were the Ubers goat. You really cooked this tournament bringing unique teams and clutching some big wins.
Michielleus The Randbats goat. You’re the only player on the team I trust to show up a few hours before the match and ask what team you should use and load it the true randbats mindset. Your games are always a fun watch thanks for getting us the wins we needed especially the one vs el clave.
PoseidonWrath Even though your mainstage games didn’t go as you wanted, I’m really glad you stepped up in the early stages of the tournament. That R2 qualifier win against Devin was an important one thank you for that.
Ivar57 Damn, I still remember our vc reaction to your r2 qualifier game agaisnt JJ that was crazy comeback. Like Wrath you really stepped up early on in the tournament. Unlucky you couldn’t finish but thank you for the wins you delivered when it mattered.
Bundy300 Sorry I couldn’t start you as much as you would’ve liked, but know that you were one of the best subs I could’ve asked for. you got us a potential crucial win in your last game. Keep grinding that ladder.
