Season 4 Week 1: Stall? ON THE 4TH OF JULY?!
Welcome back guys! Tier shifts are live! Politoed dipped its toe(d) in the tier and got quickbanned, we gained rhyperior (!!!!!!!) and barreskewda (!), and we lost amuk and gastrodon. But it's 4th of July week and y'all know what that means! Time to ignore the shifts and stall! Click here for the lore drop!

"Dude, come ON BRO, stall. STALL in NU. How much of a * loser must you be? I know I'm complaining, I know I've said I'm trying to stop complaining. God * * though. what the... why? Why are you even playing NU. why are you playing NU to play stall? What are we doing? What are we doing with our life? Are you serious? ITS THE FOURTH OF JULY and you're like: Yeah, you know what my idea of a fun day sounds like? Playing * stall in NU. Get the * OUT of here man. Oh my God dude, that is so annoying. Actually so annoying. * dude, that's crazy. I can't imagine being that much of a * loser. GOD *. If I ever - if you guys ever see me using stall in NU I want you to contact YouTube and tell them to delete my * channel. I'm not even * kidding." -MR502

:sv/vaporeon::sv/avalugg::sv/altaria::sv/houndstone:

Wise words, wise words. Anyways, this week build the best stall team possible and post it here! For our purposes a stall team is a defensive team that aims to outlast the opponent, often using chip damage from status and/or hazards. If you have any question on whether your team counts as a stall team or not shoot me a message on here or on discord!

Submissions are open now and close Tuesday July 8th at ~10pm-4. Happy Building!

Alrighty here's my stall:

Sableye + AV Swampert: :Sableye: :avalugg: :swampert: :vaporeon: :qwilfish-hisui: :uxie:

The stall team features several off-meta mons like AV Swampert and Sableye. The PhysDef core is Uxie (for Scrafty + flygon), Vaporeon (for Basculegion) and Avalugg (for everything else), the SpDef mon is AV Swampert (because grass isn't real), and the dark types in Sableye (for Munkidori) and Qwil-H (for spikes + intim + grass check) can be used to check physical or special threats as needed.
:sableye:
I started this build first by looking for a replacement Munkidori check to Muk-a. Because I'm crazy (and play a lot of ZU), I ended up with Spdef Sableye, and trust me, it pulls its weight. It resists poison, psychic, and fighting, and it has wisp, encore, and knock to stall away. It's still a Sableye, and its EV's aren't how it walls physical attackers. It's also fun into Bronzong.
:avalugg:
After him, I then wanted to patch up my weakness to other physical attackers and fit in removal with Mr. Defense Stat, Avalugg. I specifically wanted to check Flamigo and Flygon, and Lug can tera to avoid the CC migo 2hko. What usually ended up happening in the few ladder games I did though, is that I would ignore hazards and make the other mons check physical attackers, while keeping Sturdy intact for when I needed it.
:swampert: :vaporeon:
My next two mons were there to check Kilo, Diancie, Flygon, and Basculegion. The vaporeon as a Bascu check was kinda obvious, especially since Politoed is still legal. The AV Swampert is definitely weirder. I chose it because I wanted Surf for Diamond Storm Diancie and Mirror Coat (lol) for Meteor Beam + Mblast. I switched to AV when I realized that it was the easiest way I could keep my Swampert alive longer and that I wasn't using SR on it anyways. No ground move because I need Knock + mirror coat. Vaporeon was half-added for Wish support, and I didn't run protect because I want to confuse Toxicroak. With Alluring Voice. Because if that thing clicks Tera Dark, I'm doomed.
:qwilfish-hisui: :uxie:
My last 2 mons form a hazards core and help check mons the rest of the team does not. Qwil-H is here in case I'm silly and I lose my Sableye when a Munkidori is in the back, as well as providing Spikes, spreading poison via Barb Barrage, and being annoying with Pain Split. I'm not using Overqwil because it takes more damage without Eviolite and because it's too high of a tier for my ZU-minded brain to comprehend. Finally, Uxie is here because I wanted Hwish Mesprit before I settled on AV Swampert but then realized I needed PsyNoise > Hwish and therefore changed the slot to the better mon. EV's are for Scrafty and then some.

Despite having 1.5 mons for it on average, Scrafty is still a little scary since idk what I'm doing vs tera resist-fighting DD, and so is Toxicroak since it's going to Tera Dark. Uxie has to be her in these MUs. Qwil-H being the only Tsareena check is also a bit scary, but that is what Tera Poison on everything is for. Both waters having flip turn is prob not needed but eh, i pressed post.

It's also a bit MU fishy, but ladder is spamming rain and I'm Vaporeon & friends, so I keep winning.

updated replay | mesp version but shows vs scrafty

No need to message LessThanThreeMan if you're unsure your team is stall or not; Your opponents will tell you.

If you're currently laddering for the NULT you likely went up against this.
:Gligar::Scream Tail::Politoed::Skuntank::Brambleghast::Ditto:

Team revolves around dealing chip damage with hazzards, knocking off boots and either reverse sweeping with ditto or outlasting their whole team.

Team already existed with Poliwrath over Politoed and Alola-Muk over Skuntank but Poliwrath kinda folds to croak and gligar can't handle ice punch sets and the team collapses afterwards and Alola-Muk moved on to a beter place.

:Scream Tail: : Quick mechanics guide:
Encore+Disable forces opponents to struggle the next turn which means more chip and switches
Protect+Disable means blocked spins protect also blocks defog and taunt which means you can disable those too (and if they don't use those moves you can encore them into whatever they are using instead!

Scream Tail keeps teammates topped up, checks all fighting types not named Croak, Breloom or P-jab Scrafty. Checks half the tier if you disable the right move and with muk gone it only got easier. Also deals with pesky set up mons (And because it's really fast you can do some funny stuff like getting your ditto into boosted mons before they manage to switch out!

Make sure you have hazards up otherwise this mon is doing nothing.

:Gligar: : Sets up rocks, checks croak sometimes, toxic for chip, knocks hdb, makes opponents think about pressing volt.

:Skuntank: : Checks the tricky ghosts and psychics most notably Munkidori.

AV means they won't be tricking more vital parts of your team, switches into most amoonguys and explosion is a way for it to not overstay its welcome and tends to fold skuntanks after they switch into a knock. You kinda need that spread to have it tank anything and even then it's kinda paper-ish

:Politoed: : Honestly, really surpsing how exceptionally ok this mon is. VS opponents with a tanky team this mon can single-handedly win you the game. Tera ground can also be used to trap Raikou and Kilowattrel but being able to trap Tsareena instead is more important most of the time. Psychic is for croaks that switch in. Mon is mainly used to check rain atm but I'm keeping it afer drizzle ban gets implemented because it just works.

:Brambleghast: : Spins, blocks spins, sets hazards. No item means it doesn't die to tsareena knock and can switch into other brambles using real moves like Poltergeist. Shadow ball also allows it to beat lugg.

:Ditto: : Certified wincon machine. Pairs really well with Scream Tail giving it controlled switch ins. Don't be afraid to switch into regen mons to scout, 9/10 times they won't be able to hit you anyway and if they do you just regen it off.

Team struggles with flygon if their team doesn't struggle with flygon. Cinno also kinda requires a lot of reads if they don't sac it turn 1.
Peaked at around 1390 during ladder tour so I'm ok with that.

Stall.
:slowbro-galar: - :gligar: - :vaporeon: - :incineroar: - :bronzong: - :houndstone:
I've been laddering for NULT with a stall team that I built for this project, and it was very effective at pushing through the glut of rain and HO teams that plagued ladder immediately after shifts.

This team features my favorite variation of Galarian Slowbro, IronPress with Rocky Helmet. This set lets you set up alongside physical sweepers and defeat them, and occasionally muscle through other defensive foes, like I do in this match. Gligar does typical Gligar things and sets spikes, while specially defensive Vaporeon owns rain teams. RestTalk Incineroar is a funny set, and servers as the main status absorber for this team. Bronzong is a mostly standard defensive set, with the exception of the Trick tech, which allows you to switch in freely on Choice Scarfers like Munkidori and Trick the scarf back onto something else. Houndstone is a monster.

What would the 4th of july week be if I didn't post a stall team

:altaria:-:amoonguss:-:orthworm:-:scream-tail:-:swampert:-:incineroar:

:orthworm: I knew I wanted to start this team off with orthworm as I hadn't had a chance to play much since the shifts dropped and heard that rhyperior guy is pretty scary with SD so for evs I am speed creeping random max speed adamant rhyperiors, 16 defense evs with a boosting nature to hit the jump number and throwing the rest in hp and spdef as worm already has good physical bulk in which we are boosting with iron defense for a stronger body press, spikes are always nice and I like chesto-resto here to be less reliant on wish pass and keeping its lefties to stay healthy
:Incineroar: Rest talk bulk up incin does many great things for this team, clicks knock off throughout the game, checks chandelure, intimidate, late game win con. Incineroar simply does a great job at filling some of the holes left by alolan-muks departure for stall teams and certainly earned its spot here
:scream tail: bulky wish passer with roar to cycle hazard chip and psychic noise to prevent recovery. rocky helmet helps accelerate the chipping process and speed creeping jolly breloom (which definitely wasn't a change made after running into one on ladder)
:swampert: a second knock off user and a stealth rock setter, setting itself apart from gligar with its access to roar and just better special bulk.
:altaria: wisp is good utility as well as natural cure for absorbing status, and defog is there in case of a dire need to get the hazards offs
:Amoonguss: I went with an assault vest set to make amoonguss an overall solid pivot with regenerator who still makes progress with sludge bomb poisons and pressures physical attackers with foul play and can clear boosts with clear smog when needed. This guy has been super underrated for a while now

Replays: So shengineer and I did a video on his channel where we used 2 different stall teams, one made by each of us, also featuring the crash out legend and creator of the copypasta himself mr502

Time stamps for my team: 9:26, 14:21

CM Vaporeon Stall

:pmd/avalugg::pmd/altaria::pmd/vaporeon::pmd/gligar::pmd/incineroar::pmd/orthworm:

To celebrate our newest NU tradition, I cooked up my own stall build to annoy ladder with. It's a pretty standard hazard stack idea with a few bulky setup mons in CM Vaporeon and Coil Orthworm to close out games or force our opponent to respond. If Gligar manages to land Toxic on an opposing Vaporeon it can be very difficult for them to stop our own.

a little stall i cooked up
https://pokepast.es/a85fdca9c6ca98f8
:pincurchin::avalugg::bronzong;::florges::decidueye::cramorant:
almost all my stalls have been built around avalugg/florges, even without pz florges is still pretty good (really hard to answer toxt and chandy otherwise)
zong with wishpass is the munki counter here and rocker here, decid as a second removal mon, spinblock, water resist, and knock off, and cramorant as a copper counter and defogger
now i was looking for a voltblock with spikes but gligar seemed way too vulnerable so i decided to go with pincurchin who also has tspike and recovery
this is probably the most crackhead stall i have ever built and released but losing muk who had god role compression is just cooked

Double Wish Stall

:overqwil: :vaporeon: :tsareena: :bronzong: :gligar: :sylveon:

Wanted to do double eviolite stall, but that concept ended up falling flat. So here's double wish stall, which allows for multiple pokemon such as Overqwil, bronzong and gligar with unreliable/no recovery to be used on the same team.

:pmd/overqwil: Munki counter (until they NP focus blast but well, give up then) and spikes setter. Can also act as a physical check in a pinch due to intim.
:pmd/vaporeon: First wish passer and main rain check, roar is for anti setup.
:pmd/tsareena: Removal of the team, its pretty consistent at removing and generally tanky. Could go cloak for scald switchin, but boots is nice to be consistent removal.
:pmd/bronzong: Mandatory steel of the team, does general zong stuff. Night shade is cool for consistent damage, could go iron defense to act as a wincon.
:pmd/gligar: Rocks setter of the team and main migo check. Really bulky, staying in to toxic something is very worthwhile.
:pmd/sylveon: Secondary wish passer and can end games pretty well, roar is anti setup just like vapo.

Hello! Thought I'd bring a slightly different flavor of stall. Presenting:
Make-your-opponent's life miserable Pressure Stall
:raikou::bronzong::brambleghast::articuno::dipplin::incineroar:
Was thinking of a way to make stall fun to build and remembered that one Kyurem set from OU. We obviously don't have Kyurem, but we do have Raikou, which is basically the same thing. The team is not too different from usual stall, with hazard stack + knock off + dual phasing as our primary way to make progress - except we have this dual pressure core to PP stall the things that can, in fact, beat us, as well as a few other nifty sets.

Here's the team:

:Raikou: - Star of the team. Not a lot of things like to switch in on Thunderbolt/Scald with Gastrodon gone, so most people's minds are immediately wandering to the CM sets, but what if we leaned a little harder on the Pressure aspect of Raikou? The result is this sub/tect specially defensive Raikou set. The idea is to just PP stall opponents of things they might want to click, which might include super effective attacks or even utility moves like Encore/Defog/Roar, which would be great for the rest of our team long-term.
:Bronzong: - "Mandatory" steel type and rocks setter. Blanket-checks a lot of threats in the tier, with utility in Psychic Noise and consistent damage in Night Shade. Rest last negates standard steel overwhelm strategies, while featuring a funny PP stall "tech": Why click sleep talk if I can just skip my turn and let my opponent waste their PP? Doesn't always work as intended.
:Brambleghast: - Physdef Bramble offers amazing role compression in hazard removal, spikes setting, spin blocking and more. It's surprisingly competent in all of these roles, too.
:Articuno: - Second Kyurem. We take a page from Monotype's book by running mono freeze-dry Articuno, leveraging its crazy special bulk and access to consistent recovery to support Raikou's stall endeavors. No pun intended, because endeavor is not a stall move so I can't use it. We run Roar last to match our hazards, but there are real merits to running Haze or Protect instead.
:Dipplin: - Dedicated knock off absorber and physical rain check, also just a good physical attacker check in general. Also provides us with another phasing move in dragon tail, which always matches well with hazard stack. Don't say wincon, don't say wincon, this is stall, we can't have wincons.
:Incineroar: - We round off the set with a very standard Incineroar stall set: Rest talk, wisp/knock off to make progress and shut down physical attackers. Yes, it's a physdef Incineroar.

And here's some replays:

Bonus: A few replays of an older version, just to better showcase pressure stall in action:

I feel like this could become a real core with some extra tests and effort, but this is about as good as I can make it in one day. Is this a good team as of now? Not necessarily. Will it make your opponent's life miserable? Sure might. And in the end, isn't that what this stall week is all about?

Pressure Stall by milliongatejumpguy
:raikou::bronzong::brambleghast::articuno::dipplin::incineroar:

Vote for your top 3 teams in ranked order! Voting closes Thursday, July 10th at ~10pm-4. May the best team win!

I kinda wanna vote for funny Pinkunchin but triple removal hazard stack with toxic spikes is a little too unhinged even for my standards ;-;

1- Diamonds, I kinda have to pick between no spinblocker (besides tera worm xd) and no removal, that's tough. Having no spinblocker is not as dire for stall tbf, you have the longevity, if they remove your hazards you just get them up again. Team looks very solid otherwise, so it takes #1.
2- Hammer, got hazards, anti-setup, THE stall spin blocker, big scary ironpresser for wincon. Kinda needs to rely on Gligar or Hound to absorb knock offs, the team has no removal and Glowbro is not wearing boots so hazard stack looks kinda scary.
3- Lettuceleaf, actually has the whole stall package, solid spin blocker, wish passing, two knock off users, hazard support, status effects to make progress. I'm a bit of an Avalugg hater as the sole removal in a team with no boots, nothing wants to take a knock off, feels like a lost matchup against the other two teams I voted for and there's no status absorber either, but I like the vision.

Season 4 Week 2: Barraskewda (no full rain)
Ok now we can move on to the new mons in the July shift and we are starting with the fish! Barraskewda is a threat on and off of rain. Typically skewda sporting a choice band, but there are some other cool item options like boots and maybe even scarf? (You outpseed drednaw at +2 with adamant still... this thing is so fast xd)

:sv/barraskewda:

For the sake of variety this week and because we mostly want to see barraskewda outside of rain,
we are banning full rain for this week. What that means for our purposes is that no other swift swim users other than barraskewda can be used. This means rain dance is still allowed so you can use it as a sneaky late game win con if you would like. If your team looks like a full rain team but with only skewda as a swift swim user it will also be disqualified. (Something like klefki | tornadus | skewda | kilo | scarf adapt legion | wetbull would be disqualified for example.) If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message on here or on discord!

Submissions are open now and close Tuesday July 15th at ~10pm-4. Happy Building!
