Set Description
=============
Gengar uses Choice Specs to beat Pokemon that would normally survive one move from it such as Mega Metagross, Victini and non-Choice Scarf Porygon Z (if Focus Blast is being used). Gengar's strongest move is Sludge Wave in a neutral matchup as well as hitting most Fairy types for supereffective damage like Mega Gardevoir, Mega Altaria, Togekiss and Sylveon. Shadow Ball deals with Psychic types and other Ghost types which include Victini, Mega Metagross, Mega Slowbro and Aegislash. Thunderbolt lets Gengar have a more favorable matchup versus non-Crunch Gyarados running less speed EVs. It also allows Gengar to secure the win versus stall Manaphy. Focus Blast hits Pokemon like Heatran, Terrakion, Tyranitar and non-Choice Scarf Kyurem-Black and Porygon-Z. Hidden Power Fire lets Gengar deal with Genesect and Mega Scizor. And hidden power ice lets gengar beat garchomp, landorus-t and landorus
EVs
=============
Maximum Speed with a Timid nature is important for Gengar to outspeed prominent threats such as Mega Gardevoir, Victini, Mega Metagross, and Manaphy if Thunderbolt is being used. It also allows Gengar to outspeed and beat Garchomp and Landorus if Hidden Power Ice is being used, as well as Genesect if Hidden Power Fire is being used.
Usage Tips
=============
Against Gyarados, Thunderbolt should always be used over Focus Blast, as Focus Blast does not secure the KO even if Gyarados chooses to Mega Evolve. Against Mega Altaria, Sludge Wave is the preferred option over Hidden Power Ice, as Sludge Wave consistently wins the matchup. Using Hidden Power Ice instead risks losing if the opponent Mega Evolves.
