Resource SV BSS Viability Rankings (Regulation I)

I feel like Koraidon is deserving of S tier status again. It's way more threatening than Eternatus and as threatening and potent as Miraidon and Calyrex (the latter of which I am finding to be very hard to use in fact). Not having to deal with immunities to its most powerful attacks (the rare Flash Fire notwithstanding) really is a point in its favor and makes it simpler to use in a way. Even then sets without Fire attacks with Iron Head and Tera Steel are just as devastating. Sun is better team utility than electric terrain.

Stupid mon. All of the top restricted and non-restricteds are really.

I really agreed with it moving down, but yeah it might need to be higher than A+. Right now restricted lack an S- tier, though the others have it. I think the easiest fix is to make that a rank, just for koraidon atm. It just still seems weaker to me than mir and caly, albeit barely. The reason is only cause, while fire is boosted, it's only by its field condition, not STAB too like with mir. Caly is just faster and, to me, more mindless. Er, easy to use.

I’m split on koraidon, I think miraidon and Calyrex are still far in a way the best restricteds, though Koraidon isn’t far behind. I can totally see a world where we put it at S-, though another just as easy option is to drop Eternatus down to A, as it also seems more at home along Zacian and Lunala. While the popularization of the substitute + taunt stallbreaker set has made it seem a bit more threatening, I feel it’s important to point out that this set had always existed. I was facing it back in March for example and probably earlier. I do agree that koraidon is scarier now, however I’m not too sure if it’s enough to place it among the ranks of the titans that occupy S tier.

The VR has been updated for Regulation I!

Obviously a lot of big changes but there's one in particular I would like to highlight

Gholdengo was removed from the rankings due to the metagame shifts being particularly harsh to it. It fell massively in usage and now sits well outside of the top 50, which is generally our cutoff for most rankings. It felt wrong to continue to rank it and imply that it is even remotely close in viability to anything else on this list, as it is not. Gholdengo has been a staple of the BSS metagame throughout most of generation 9, and I predict people will assume we just forgot to rank it. We didn't.

I don't think it should even have been ranked for G. I can count on one hand the number of times I encountered it on (during G). I started in G so you can imagine how novel it was when H hit.

Additions are more striking than removals so shout-out to Tyranitar.

I was like the main one iirc for kor to S- at FIRST, but now in I I think a small bump to S proper is in order. Adding a second slot has helped ho oh tremendously, or at least a little, and it seems to do the same for kor. Nvm usage, that comes and goes(though it likely won't go in this case,) sun is just more support for fire type bruisers than mir's terrain is for the team. Now mir ITSELF still seems to use the field condition it brings even better than kor, but it is a bit lesser on support, really it's just iron treads using that, and often you'll go BE ANYWAYS, as opposed to the much more naturally fast flutter, who can better run other stuff w/ a chance that it goes into hyper speed for a time. Uh other than the support aspect I have little, obviously much remains the same w/ the big 3. But I will say kor has a shot to break pao's sash w/ scale shot, unlike the other 2 who will get blocked that way, if teraing or winning the spe tie. It also is better into the common ting lu, which should count for at least S together. Caly S is a crazy thing, but I would say kor gets better set variety than mir.

the vr was modeled after my draft which had the S rank exactly as it is currently

The reason S- exists is because koraidon and hooh are still both excellent pokes, just not on the level of Calyrex S and Miraidon. And basically everything I was able to gather from your post is why the council decided S- was where it belongs. Trust me, koraidon is by far my favorite restricted and I would personally be thrilled to see it at the top of the vr but that’s not the truth of the matter. You mention the Ting-Lu matchup being better for koraidon and yes that is true however the reason Ting is the most used poke in the format is precisely because it is so essential to have an answer to the two S tier restricted pokes. That’s how dominant they are.

Koraidon simply can’t match that level of importance

Update time!

Here's what changed
Drops
:Dragonite: S- > A+ Dragonite has been demoted from the most dominant threat in the metagame to just your standard top tier. With the rise of Koraidon + Lunala cores Dragonite finds itself struggling quite a lot against some pretty big threats. Very sad to see it be outside of S tier for the first time ever, but its still quite good.

Rises
:Gliscor: A+ > S- Gliscor is a very suffocating defensive presence that requires certain team styles to go out of their way to check it. Miraidon in particular is very scared of clicking its electric STAB when Gliscor is present on a teamsheet. Once it gets a sub up it can be excessively difficult to break through. Many Caly-I are even forgoing a defensive item for Loaded Dice and Icicle Spear, just for gliscor.

:Iron hands: UR > B Za hando is doing the same thing its always done. The only reason it wasn't ranked initially is because it was outside of our normal cutoff for initial vrs. Now that the meta has had time to develop a bit we can start to look at the less common options to see what should also be ranked, I got plenty of requests to look at Iron Hands so the council did discuss it, and it is once again being added to the ranks.

:Arboliva: UR > B- Arb is very interesting, being a Miraidon and Caly-S check in the vain of Ting-Lu, however it has much more capacity to heal itself and takes away Miraidon's terrain when hit, cutting off a large source of its power. It also isn't generally afraid of Caly-S' common teras, however it is much less proactive than Ting-Lu in most cases and tends to flounder outside of those advantageous matchups, hence the placement at B-
