Welcome to the finals of the World Cup of Pokémon 2025! Italy returns for a second year in a row, whereas US West reappears for the first time since winning in 2019 and after losing their spot in the finals last year to Italy. In this epic rematch, continuing their hot streaks for Italy are Santu, with a whopping 6-0, and Kebab mlml and zS, each at 5-0. US West's own streaks that continue to burn are Fusien, 5-0, and emforbes, 4-0. And none of the defeated SV players have been paired, potentially allowing them to go all the way. Italy is here and hungry for their second trophy, whereas US West is pushing for their third. Whoever wins will be the first repeat since at least 2020, but will that come at the cost of the relegation curse in 2026? Check back next Sunday (and year!) and see!

My two favourite things are digging through stats and ranking things in list format so without further ado, here's Hall of Fame Watch WCOP2025 edition!

17 players are looking for their first Smogon trophy with this tournament:
- US West: Attribute, PZZ, Ruffles, Frito, vivalospride, Kustavan, Aurella, Roller K, tko
- Italy: zS, entrocefalo, JUST ONE GALATINA, Laroxyl, Kibo, StepC, Pais, Going Hard

2 players are looking for their second team trophy:
- US West: :Umbreon:shiloh:Umbreon:,:Delibird:ima:Delibird:
- Italy: n/a
2 players are looking for their second trophy and first team trophy:
- US West: :Beedrill-Mega:Fusien:Beedrill-Mega:, :Iron Moth:Vert:Iron Moth:
- Italy: n/a
5 players are looking for their third trophy (third team trophy for each of them):
- US West: :Weedle:emforbes:Weedle:, :Doublade:Meru:Doublade:
- Italy: :Darkrai:Kebab mlml:Darkrai:, :Drifloon:H.M.N.I.P.:Drifloon:, :Regieleki:Niko:Regieleki:

Now for the players already pretty high up on the Hall of Fame ranking looking to climb higher:
- With an Italy win, :Raikou:Raiza:Raikou: would receive a fourth overall trophy and a fourth team trophy, entering a tie for 30th place in the Smogon Hall of Fame (accounting for the others that would move up with an Italy win).
- Likewise with an Italy win, :Sylveon:Punny:Sylveon: would receive a fourth overall trophy and a third team trophy, securing a tie for 23rd place in the Smogon Hall of Fame.
- With a US West win, :Obstagoon:z0mOG:Obstagoon: would similarly receive a fourth overall trophy and a third team trophy, also securing a tie for 23rd place in the Smogon Hall of Fame.
- With an Italy win, :Lucario-Mega:Santu:Lucario-Mega: would receive a fourth overall trophy and a second team trophy, and in one very successful stretch of a few weeks, would move up to 20th in the Smogon Hall of Fame (having entered the month in 78th place).

- With a US West win, :Throh:TJ:Throh: would receive a fifth overall trophy and a fourth team trophy, securing a tie for 12th place in the Smogon Hall of Fame. Likewise, TJ would join the club that currently consists only of SoulWind, BIHI, elodin, Tace, and as of the most recent SPL S1nn0hC0nfirm3d, becoming the 6th player to win each of Smogon's three team trophies.

- With an Italy win, :Whiscash:Tricking:Whiscash: would receive a sixth overall trophy and a fourth team trophy, entering a tie with McMeghan for 6th place in the Smogon Hall of Fame. As a neat bit of trivia, Tricking would also become only the second player to win three different trophies multiple times, a feat previously only achieved by ABR (although to foreshadow things, another player would do so as well).

- With an Italy win, :Grovyle:Empo:Grovyle: would become the first player in Smogon history to win nine trophies, adding a fourth team trophy to his five individuals. This extends his current lead for 1st place in the Smogon Hall of Fame, and would also join the aforementioned "group" of players to have won three different trophies multiple times.

Same as before, if I'm jinxing everyone at once then no one's jinxed. Good luck everyone, super excited to see the battles :))

I'll do my S/o here to farm reacts, i need em for this year likeshop. "Haha" also works

Nemosse I should have invited you before NGL, thanks for the help even if we couldn't play much, I appreciate it.

VAMOS CHILE

Already dropped shotouts in our server but wanna give a public thanks to all my team for a great tournament. Hope some of my boys stop being slept on and get a shot in other tournaments (if Lazuli IamLowTier Mendeez Endill don't get drafted for SCL/SPL yall are idiots)
Personally dissapointed in my own results but oh well. Wanna at least thank KlefkiHolder for helping me with team choices and Ruffles for giving me games and also double checking my teams.
Also thanks to everyone who supported us either by rooting for us or being directly involved in our prep. Means a lot!!

Either team is a fine winner so just want to see some good games played, hf

US West (5) vs. (5) Italy
SV OU: TJ vs. zS - there's not much you can really take away from zS' last game but he's still on fire. Guy's like 5-0. TJ has more experience in tour finals, but I don't see zS falling victim to nerves here. Also think his brings have generally been slightly more inspired than TJ's.
SV OU: Attribute vs. Kebab mlml - Kebab has been having a really great run this tour, and it's very hard to argue with a 5-0 record. However, the more I look over his games the more I morally align myself against the brings, effective though they may be. Dudunsparce is paraslop. Frosmoth is basically Volcarona which is dishonest gaming. Pecharunt + Moltres is just evil. Goodra-Hisui...okay that one is sheist I can't complain about that. Schizo rant aside: I think he's very slightly favoured here because he's got that 5-0 momentum and playing well, but it's always hard to bold against Attribute in SV. Losing in semis doesn't take away his ridiculous sheet record in the tier, and he has previously built iconic evil-ass teams of his own.
SV OU: shiloh vs. H.M.N.I.P - Same as last week I don't really know either of these guys' bodies of work in SV OU so I'll just treat this as a builder proxy war. I think West tends towards safer, more proven structures, while Italy likes to play around a little more with compositions. Going purely off of vibes I am thinking H.M.N.I.P brings a weird Moltres-based BO that ends up lacking the damage to get past a tryhardy Ting-Lu comp from shiloh, and a Dragonite or Zamazenta ends the game.
SV OU: emforbes vs. Tricking - highlight matchup. Here's the thing, on paper I favour emforbes. He's much more deeply embedded into SV OU and is 4-0 this tour, with a quite nicely played game in semis. I bolded him for this reason. However, last week's game has revealed that Tricking is in fact active on the SV ladder, and this combined with his well-calibrated brings has given me the looming feeling that he is going to pull a Tricking's Trick and potentially get a win here. You can't count this guy out.
SV OU: Fusien vs. Niko - Niko's loss in semis doesn't really count, it happened after the series was clinched, but I'm probably bolding Fusien here anyways. He is looking much more confident than in SPL and is showing why he's the rightful winner of that 21th OST, MRP be damned. For his sake I'm hoping Niko can reassume form but this is a scary opponent to do that against.
SS OU: z0mOG vs. Raiza
SM OU: PZZ vs. Empo - this is my wildcard prediction not really based on anything solid.
ORAS OU: Ruffles vs. Santu - Santu's last few weeks have been going too well. Usually you don't win an individual and a team trophy this close to each other.
SV UU: Meru vs. Punny
SV Ubers: Frito vs. entrocefalo

US West (5) vs. (5) Italy
SV OU: TJ vs. zS
SV OU: Attribute vs. Kebab mlml
SV OU: shiloh vs. H.M.N.I.P
SV OU: emforbes vs. Tricking
SV OU: Fusien vs. Niko
SS OU: z0mOG vs. Raiza
SM OU: PZZ vs. Empo
ORAS OU: Ruffles vs. Santu
SV UU: Meru vs. Punny
SV Ubers: Frito vs. entrocefalo

Incoming Tiebreak

was asked so:

US West (5) vs. (5) Italy
SV OU: TJ vs. zS (37-63) just hard to not expect him to win. tj game vs bhkg wasn't amazing even though tj has had great games in his past. zS one of the most standout players of the tournament. pokemon is pokemon so i'll give zS a modest rounded 5/8 to win.
SV OU: Attribute vs. Kebab mlml (60-40) kebab ofc has the better record this tour, but bute's schedule has been insane and he's just obviously more proven. italy in the wcop builder is peak, but just hard to go against bute in this mu in particular.
SV OU: shiloh vs. H.M.N.I.P (51-49) yet another weird sv pull for shiloh, will favor him slightly but idk how you even call this one. pietro won a weird one, shiloh also won a weird one. have to respect shiloh has been more proven to me in mons, but feels very coinflip nonetheless. gl pietro
SV OU: emforbes vs. Tricking (45-55) no glaze but he has made most games look pretty easy. played him on ladder a few times so ik he's been active & think this should be a rlly fun one. hl of the series imo. predicting vs emi twice normally is a winning move but this wcop it's a bit surprising.
SV OU: Fusien vs. Niko (60-40) i don't think many games in this sv series has had both players have a similar record this wcop, and this mu is no different fusien has finally found himself having a good teamtour, and doesn't seem to be slowing. niko is 1-1 which is ofc fine, just hard to favor on paper vs someone having such a good tour. sheetlooking aside id favor fusien rn based on sv trajectory slightly.
SS OU: z0mOG vs. Raiza
SM OU: PZZ vs. Empo - if pzz upsets bro fist into empo they need to build him a statue.
ORAS OU: Ruffles vs. Santu - have to respect how cool of a mu this will be, even if alrdy happened. santu has just been him though.
SV UU: Meru vs. Punny
SV Ubers: Frito vs. entrocefalo - maybe i dont know ubers but feels decently close based on showings, will predict what feels like an upset.

6-3 last week, if it goes to tb feels hard to not favor italy. think 6-4ing is more important for west than it is for italy.
