Gonna be honest idk how to talk in the discords sometimes, I'm really worried people will judge me when I have nothing else to say other than complaining about my losses. Idk how to converse with people or just get to being friendly with people. I guess this is more of a discord anxiety thing but idk who to tell this to.

Smogoff tends to be more of the joke-y side of the forums, but a serious inquiry begets a serious answer:
The advice I try to give people - and to myself when I'm joining a new space - is to join ongoing conversations, rather than trying to spin up a new one on your own. Add some of your own thoughts when people are talking about the game, or comment on a tournament game that other people are watching, or just compliment the steak that somebody posted in general chat. Participating in whatever's going on is the key to getting integrated, rather than trying to shove your way in. Eventually people will start recognizing you, and friendships can begin to develop naturally from there. It's a long process, but so is making friends offline.

The age old adage of "lurk more" is actually legit, especially if you're introverted. get a feel for who enjoys talking about what and chime in with some shared experiences when relevant. if you have something really cool to show off that's always nice too, especially stuff like art you've drawn (at least in welcoming communities, which smogon certainly is!)
