Pet Mod Fusion Evolution [Gen 9] - Final Winners! | Closure

Commenting on the potential changes:

:absol::iron valiant:: I'm fine with these changes, while not necessarily broken, M-Sol Valiant has centralized the mega of choice for a lot of teams, making teambuilding rather boring, lowering the SpA does seem a bit excessive, however.

:grafaiai::samurott-hisui:, :tapu bulu::cetitan:, :aerodactyl::walking wake:, :primeape::solgaleo:: Fine with these changes, not much to say.

:tapu lele::articuno-galar:: I would think the stat narf and the Flying typing would be necessary if Psychic Surge + Expanding Force is desired to be kept for it, as the Speed nerf wouldn't change its defensive counterplay that much, plus being weak to Stealth Rock is big.

:koraidon::anorith:: I feel this one should use more meta development first, I don't feel at present that it's too much for the metagame, and the other changes here can indirectly impact it too as mentioned.

:brambleghast::mamoswine:: I don't feel that granting it even more gimmicky immunities is going to help it that much, let alone consistently, I would recommend to just change its typing, Ghost/Ice and Grass/Ground are both better than Grass/Ice.

:pawniard::snorunt:: Moody isn't inherently broken, especially as it no longer boosts Evasion, if anything I'd advocate for a sillier effect for consistency, namely making its ability raise Atk by 2 at the end of each turn.

this mon was simply too good, any stat changes dont nerf the crazy offensive stats enough. also makes way for the next entry:
1726869364622.png

70 / 130 / 80 / 100 / 60 / 100 ---> 70 / 130 / 80 / 100 / 60 / 110
Baryon Blade (Super Luck + Quark Drive) = Effects of both abilities. While Quark Drive is active, +1 crit stage.
significantly improved speed tier lets it outspeed celedos, meowscorio, and scarf anoridon (with speed booster). proper quark drive effects lets it properly abuse eterrain making it a potent abuser with sd, and extra crit is just a nice bonus.

1726869555188.png

76 / 121 / 77 / 90 / 68 / 97 ---> 76 / 116 / 77 / 90 / 68 / 97
this mons a bit too good at anti-offensing so a slight atk nerf is due

1726869607699.png

Mercury Pulse ---> Drizzle
75 / 115 / 85 / 65 / 75 / 105 ---> 75 / 125 / 85 / 65 / 75 / 105
similarly anoraidon was too good at scarfing as its atk was effectively base 170 after the 1.333x boost. changing it to drizzle and giving it an atk buff to compensate should reduce its offensive presence to be more manageable

75 / 112 / 90 / 87 / 78 / 67 ---> 85 / 112 / 90 / 67 / 88 / 67

130 / 131 / 90 / 65 / 75 / 74 ---> 120 / 141 / 90 / 65 / 75 / 74
ultimately we chose to buff atk since you dont outspeed too much with +10 spe besides wopple/florge (both of whom are pretty niche in the first place). its massive atk should make it a little more appealing now

its 5am and i havent slept yet but i encountered this defunct team again in my builder and i had to show it off before it fades from collective consciousness

pawnrunt is the star of the team obviously, with moody it can scale up and eventually sweep a weakened team. icicle crash is a decent spammable stab, used over iron head because stargrowth walls that, and the set is otherwise a glalie one. 240 hp hits the benchmark of getting 5 subs with lefties and 180+ spe allows you to outspeed up to +1 iron mimic, rest thrown into def for weak flips and stuff.

clod takes on fires and stargrowth, who can spam scald while not being too bothered by disable since it usually runs scald + flip. it spreads burns and poison real well which is key to whittling down walls.

king supports with even more status, this time with burn and para which pawnrunt can abuse to paraflinch or spam subtect. it also slows down faster walls so you can sub on them.

garg absorbs status and is the first spinner, which is important because hazards really cut into pawn's effectiveness. salt and knock do a bunch of chip p much.

pyuk is the setup check and also the knock absorber thanks to mega. you should probably never use it unless youre sure the opponent doesnt have any setup, and even then rough skin is pretty useful. it stacks spikes and spreads toxic not much to say

star ties it together with a second spin and more burns. eq hits clod and chips stuff like muk while still beating floatzera.

now its been a hella long time since i actually used this but stuff like iron matcha just cleaves through the team (maybe you can salt it and hope it dies idk) but it was hella funny when it was legal and got me really far at the time

It's been a while

During our break, the Fusion Evolution Council has been discussing what is the best course of action for us to take going forward. While starting freshw ith a new meta was considered, we ultimately decided it is best to polish our current SV metas before tackling anything new. As such, that's where our next project comes in: a Random Battles version of this very format!

The idea behind this choice is that it makes the mod a lot easier for new people to get into, as they can just hop onto a random battle and slowly get familiar with the Pokémon and what they do, rather than opening the teambuilder and there immediately being met with 50 new guys at once

For this to be propperly set up, the fusions will all need sets. We will be providing a template as well as a small guide on how it works. With that all said, let us begin...
dna.png

Fusion Evolution Random Sets Workshop!

So, a quick explaination of how Randbats sets work is necessary (which I am stealing directly from Vaporemons)

So, unlike sets from the teambuilder, random battle sets are coded in a different way. Here's an example:
JSON:
    "charizard": {
        "level": 85,
        "sets": [
            {
                "role": "Fast Attacker",
                "movepool": ["Earthquake", "Flamethrower", "Focus Blast", "Hurricane", "Will-O-Wisp"],
                "teraTypes": ["Dragon", "Fire", "Ground"]
            },
            {
                "role": "Setup Sweeper",
                "movepool": ["Dragon Dance", "Earthquake", "Flare Blitz", "Outrage", "Swords Dance"],
                "teraTypes": ["Dragon", "Ground"]
            },
            {
                "role": "Fast Attacker",
                "movepool": ["Air Slash", "Fire Blast", "Solar Beam", "Sunny Day"],
                "teraTypes": ["Fire", "Grass"]
            }
        ]
    },

To explain each part of the template briefly:

- Level: Each Pokemon is assigned their own level, I believe based on winrates in vanilla Random Battles. These range from the high 90s for very bad mons like Glalie (Level 96), down to the 60s for very powerful Ubers like Koraidon (Level 64). Here in FESV, most of the Pokémon should be around around Level 80 (with some small variations so something weakerlike Yveltox can be slightly higher level than a top tier like Iron Meta). We will also allow set submissions for UU and NFEs, which obviously would need to be a higher level, but please focus primarely on the OU Pokémon. Megas may also have different levels and sets from their base form.

- Sets: I'll explain each part separately, but I want to note that every mon can have up to 3 sets, so you can submit up to 3 sets for a mon. This also gives you some room to have something goofy with one of the sets

- Role: Assigning a role to the Pokemon helps guide the random team generator and sometimes effects what item the mon will get. The available roles are: Wallbreaker, Bulky Setup, Bulky Support, Bulky Attacker, Fast Attacker, Setup Sweeper, Fast Support, and AV Pivot. Note that AV Pivot guarantees that the mon gets an Assault Vest, Setup Sweeper tends to give the mon a Life Orb, and Wallbreaker tends to give mons with 4 Attacking moves a Choice item.

- Movepool: These are the selection of moves that the Pokemon can have when that set is chosen. You can list up to 6, of which it'll choose 4, and you can have less than 4 if you're submitting some Last Resort shenanigans. The random team generation tends to favor giving the mon STAB moves. You can also just give your set 4 moves for consistency, or give it more than 4 moves but force certain moves to always show up

- Tera Types: Since Tera is banned in Fusion Evolution, it'll also be banned in Randbats, so don't worry about this section.

There are some other things that you can do that isn't in the template above, namely forcing certain items and abilities. If you want a specific set to have a specific item, move or ability, then make sure to list it.

(Be sure to also read the spoiler box above this, ESPECIALLY for the "Role" section)

:sm/pokemon::sm/pokemon:
Pokemon:
Level:

Forced Moves (Optional):
Forced Item (Optional):
Forced Ability (Optional):

So, for an example:

:sm/drampa::sm/reuniclus:
Pokemon: Drampiclus
Level: 80
Role: AV Pivot
Moves: Draco Meteor, Psyshock, Flamethrower, Knock Off, Future sight
Forced Item: Assault Vest

There's a lot of fusions to make sets for, so it'd be ideal for everyone to sub set ideas you have! Council will select what we deem more viable for each fusion. It would also be good for people to give eachother feedback on the submitted sets.

For now, that is all! Submit your sets, and farewell!

The levels are a touch too high and the forced moves are probably unnecessary, but otherwise very nice!

nice. i will do feedback for ones i think should be changed (movesets + other things). quoting is really annoying and im awful at it so the ones i suggest changes on will be listed in the quote above with reasoning below. one thing i will not be mentioning is abilities (if the mon has multiple) because i feel some of them are pretty obvious (appleking with av should always have regenerator, for example.)

Eldetini Fast Attacker: Due to how Randbats works (84 in every stat) Seed Bomb feels like an unoptimal choice on a what i presume to be a boots pivot or trick scarf set. I would change it to Leaf Storm as that does way more damage and the drop in stats matters less when you're likely to switch after attacking, anyway. The only time I would say this would be acceptable is if the forced item was Choice Band, but I believe it's possible to force items on certain movesets in randbats, which would avoid this issue in choice band sets, anyway.

Corvizolt Bulky Setup: This should simply have Brave Bird over Drill Peck. The damage drop off is too great.

Okiferro: Both of these sets are fine, but personally I would include Psychic Fangs as a possible option to be rolled alongside Thunder Punch for both sets. Psychic Fangs allows Oki to hit Poison types, which it would otherwise be walled by.

Bombirdus Setup Sweeper: Swagger is too inconsistent for this to be consistently good, especially when this learns Bulk Up. OSP has already made a Setup Sweeper set "Bulky Setup" that I would rather have over this.

Bombirdus Wallbreaker: Brick Break is very weak and unlikely to be clicked instead of the 3 other moves it gets stab on or U-Turn. I'd remove Brick Break entirely, and possibly replace it with Sucker Punch, a good priority move it has STAB on.

Hattepon-H and Hattepon-C: Both of these do not benefit from OTR as much as it should due to its middling speed, and Hatterene learns a better speed boosting move for these... I would replace Trick Room with Agility on both of these.

Buzzscor: This has 3 moves lol. I'd give it Roost, but other moves like Stealth Rock, Knock Off or Spikes are also acceptable alongside this with proper rolling.

Tentazor-Mega: 3 moves again lol! I'd give it Flip Turn as the last.

Overgyara Bulky Support: That is 4/5 moves which cause status, which is a lot and that doesn't synergize well. I would remove Scald for Liquidation, and remove Thunder Wave.

Druddizor: 3 moves! I'd give it U-Turn in the last.

Scream Cormorant: I would suggest Play Rough over Dazzling Gleam here due to Gulp Missile dropping defense and how evs are 84 in every stat for Randbats.

Whimsy Sands Fast Support: This set gets completely dominated by practically every Grass type ever. Leech Seed setters work IF they can beat Grass types, this cannot. I'd remove this set entirely, or rework Fast Support into a Hazard Setter.

k bye

Also
Giracham-Origin-Mega: Both of these movesets are quite unoptimal, none of them have ghost stab and the Bulky Attacker set running recover, fake out and dragon claw doesn't make too much sense, as both of these are likely to have very low levels due to how broken they are and therefore their bulk would likely be on the lower end, making Recover less worthwhile to click, whereas dragonclaw/fakeout are purely an unoptimal/outclassed moves for it to use. I would give both sets Shadow Sneak and Poltergeist, and remove Dragon Claw, Fake Out, and Recover from Bulky Attacker, and remove Zen Headbutt from Bulky Setup. Zen Headbutt is also questionable on Bulky Attacker as well (what does it hit that it's stabs do not) but it has more use cases than dragon claw for sure.

After some playtesting through the ongoing PL, council is making some balance changes on Pokémon that stand out as problematic

1750561430863.png

Old Stats: 80 / 66 / 90 / 130 / 95 / 90
New Stats: 76 / 66 / 84 / 130 / 95 / 90

Old Ability: Effects of Heatproof and Quark Drive
New Ability: Effects of Heatproof. When hit by a Fire move, gain a Paradox boost

Iron Matcha has been a consistent offensive threat thanks to its statline and a combination of acces to Booster Energy, recovery through Matcha Gotcha, coverage thanks to Iron Moth's Fire moves and Strength Sap making it very hard to take down. Due to how FE works, we can't nerf its movepool, and both its Special Attack and Speed are the lowest they could be for this combo within the fusion formula, so we settled for lowering its longevity and making it so the ability can no longer activate with Booster Energy or Terrain.

Old Ability: Effects of Adaptability. Cannot be statused. Takes half damage from opponent's STAB moves.
New Ability: Effects of Adaptability and Purifying Salt

Crawnacl is a lot more staightforward. Its ability artificially gave it ridiculous bulk while letting it hit hard and deal chip damage through Salt Cure. Removing the STAB resistance should make it much easier to handle

That is all for now!

Teams - PMPL and Others

Week One vs NecasInTrouble

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/dragonheaven-gen9fusionevolution-15483-nullpw
I built a ton of bulky offense and balance squads heading into my first game but kept getting into tricky matchups against snow/offense in tests with anaconja, so I said if you can't beat em join em and loaded the evil myself. I think the slow pivot core of Appleking and Druddizor have great synergy and Choice Scarf Lelecuno was a terrific Speed control option to help shore up the team; I didn't really get to use the snow offensively against a webs offense so Scarf Lele put in triple overtime in this game to secure a win.

Week Two vs olivia

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/dragonheaven-gen9fusionevolution-15874-nullpw
Olivia got destroyed by Iron Matcha in her week one game so I assumed she would load some sort of offense - time to load fat. Swoltres impressed me in tests and felt really solid to build around, acting as a Knock Off absorber, Flame Body fisher, and phazer to stop stuff like Matcha from getting out of hand. Defensive Crawnacl (any Crawnacl really) took basically zero damage from everything and has broken Salt Cure so that was an obvious fit, pairing alongside Buzzscor and Scream Corm nicely. I don't think a lead has ever done so much work in a game for fat teams before by the way, Rotoghold basically took 3 mons down with it which was insane value in a tricky matchup.

Week Three vs Lasen
1750960634225.png
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/dragonheaven-gen9fusionevolution-16115-nullpw
I wanted to load SubQD Yveltox because it felt strong and wasn't really explored as far as I knew, so I built a lead Taunt Iron Meta HO. Gonna be totally honest, my prep this week was awesome in the builder and in-game. Unfortunately, though, in the real game vs Lasen I got compounding nonsense to lose; I positioned Yveltox perfectly, overpredicted them to Encore, and then got punished by a combination of visual bug (which made me think Cram was faster, which is why I clicked QD a second time that let the Cram get the Gourging form and paralyze me) and luck (gotta love the opp clicking DD on a paralyzed mon that kills if it doesn't get full para'd). I had way better odds to just win on the spot if I commit to setting up on Cram, but thinking it was Encore and just clicking Oblivion Wing was fine too if I didn't get screwed up by the bug. I accept responsibility for not seeing the better path but am still pissed that a visual bug + hax turned an autowin into a loss.

Week Four vs Hats
1751908499193.png
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/dragonheaven-gen9fusionevolution-16553-nullpw
I built this at scheduled to be honest, I was busy with other stuff this week and felt like I could get away with pretty standard stuff. Sheik didn't show up for our game but it didn't matter, I think the matchup I loaded was basically 100-0 since I could keep up webs and hazards vs a team that couldn't handle my PivotSpam, especially the core of Iron Meta and Toed. Ignore that I didn't think at the time to EV the Vika to proc Custap after 3 rocks or whatever it didn't make a difference; it's a really cool set though.

Week Five vs Mada
1752255548756.png
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/...ution-16857-aod7wrpmd0wy50bapytdic92lgtd6ffpw
We already secured playoffs so I loaded an absolutely cracked mono-Choice Item team. It might seem like total nonsense cheems at first but this actually farmed in tests and had a set I really wanted to use in CB Slither, which did what it needed to by clicking CB + Proto boosted First Impression for a million damage. Scarf Cresserace and Scarf Floatzera, Band Zarubok and Slither, Specs Whimsy and Deliraidon... it had all the cool stuff in one team and had a great game against a pretty tricky matchup.

Semifinals vs Mada
1752867342114.png
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/dragonheaven-gen9fusionevolution-17370-nullpw
Rough semifinals game here, prepped expecting them to load offense like they had been all tour and tried to load a lot of cool techs and stuff that was good into their general comps but got pretty owned by stall. I think the Final Gambit Eldetini was a really nice tech but it lost hard to Garp, unfortunately, so I didn't get a lot of value out of it and traded it vs Guguzz that looked really annoying as a para spreader. Iron Meta was poised to do some stuff but got a lot of sad para's and then I just couldn't break past Hydra with Float hard enough to do anything other than start trying to make aggressive plays.

Overall Metagame Thoughts

anaconja and Beaf Cultist drafted me for this tour (thanks!) and probably anticipated I'd just load whatever they had, but it was so much fun building and testing that I pretty much exclusively used my teams - outside of stealing the snow core from anaconja week one. I figured out early that some stuff was just really strong, like pre-nerf Iron Matcha and Crawnacl, but after the balancing patches and plenty of theory crafting I think the tier overall felt really well-rounded and I didn't seem to struggle against the plethora of offensive cores I faced.

My scout ended up quite diverse this tour which was something I wanted to really focus on. Of course, winning games is the ultimate goal, but there was just so much to explore and try that I couldn't help but feel like it would be a disservice to the tier to not load stuff like the Swoltres fat week two or the CB Slither King week five. For as great as a lot of the booster mons are, for instance, I pretty much stayed away from them and focused on more consistent offensive pieces and bulky offense cores that could play longer games. I think a key element of my success was using UU mons often, there are some really great role fillers in the UU tier and it helped to have a little bit of surprise factor against people who generally weren't doing as much testing and building in the meta as I was. Stuff like Swoltres, Overgyara-Mega, and Crawnacl are obviously great UU mons and did well this tour but there are so many other options that didn't see much usage like Brambleshao and Eldetini that I felt could do wonders on OU teams.

I would rate this metagame quite favorably, was very fun to build and test in and I would definitely be excited to be involved in future submissions and tournaments for it. I told anaconja there were a few things I had on my wishlist for a tier like this, summarized below if you care to read.

The main two things I wish the tier had are:
Some sort of Ditto submission, Imposter + basically anything, ideally a higher HP mon so it gets a touch more longevity if something is improofed

Stronger priority overall, ideally an Extreme Speed user;
Entei w/ Pressure + something like Gourgeist w/ Frisk(Fire Ghost)
Lucario w/Justified + something like Granbull w/ Quick Feet (Fighting Fairy)

Those two would be the biggest ones to ease the burden on balance to beat offense generally, but some other things I'd like are

Stronger Normal-types in general, it doesnt feel like you need a Steel for them since the only OU one at the moment is Bouff (like some sort of Porygon-Z (Analytic) + slow mon fusion to give a boltbeam + normal breaker)
Prankster Encore of any kind, literally just like Sableye + Steel or something would be so nice
Stronger special Fighting-types, I've theory crafted Farinape but it just sucks too hard and no other mon really has upside in that capacity

For my personal VR I'd have to do something like this (order within the ranks is negotiable, only really organized S to A-, and I could see arguments for any mon being moved +- one tier most likely);

S
ironmeta.png
lelecunogalar.png
rotoghold.png

I could see any order for these three at the top but think they're all just incredibly splashable mons on any team. Iron Meta is the most consistent Steel-type mon in the tier, offering tremendous utility as a bulky pivot and Stealth Rock setter that can also pack a punch to prevent it from being setup foddered. I first thought that Iron Meta was being used wrong as a Leftovers hazard bot but really turned around to it over the season, it was a great glue mon on a lot of teams. Lelecuno is too strong and too fast for a lot of times to handle well, especially more offensive teams that rely on booster spam mons that end up slower than Scarf Lele. Rotoghold is just the epitomy of what a Gholdengo was built for, giving it Levitate was such a brilliant decision that really captures its essence as a strong but dynamic tool for teams. These three are definitely above the rest of the tier for me, though the A+ pool has some great mons, too.

A+
slitherking.png
irondirge.png
solvaliant.png
stargrowth.png
bellikiss.png

I know CB King was kind of a meme bring and I discussed it above, but this thing has unmatched potential as an offensive and defensive cog for teams. Iron Dirge is probably the best booster mon, slightly ahead of Sol Valiant, and Stargrowth is the most splashable spinner because of its ability to run bulk adequately on either side and pivot reliably. Bellikiss wasn't used a ton I don't think but is something I definitely considered in all of my builds, it is so fat and so consistent with a really strong ability. These are all reliable, easy to fit options for any team comp.

A
toedieleki.png
irontornado.png
mawlakazammegax.png
deliraidon.png

All pretty easy to pilot mons, very consistent, strong hitters that provide utility in their own rights. Mawlakazam-X is really hard to prep for given it's so damn strong and Deliraidon is a nuke button waiting to hit the field.

Not going to elaborate much beyond the A- tier but think Zarubok and Tinkovish are really exceptional offensive pieces I enjoyed using on my teams, same with Samuraiai and offensive Drudd as well.

Anyway if you read this far I hope it was worth it, this PMPL was a great time with our team and I have to say it again here for those that missed it but anaconja is far and away one of the best managers this site has without a doubt, really hope to see them get a deserved win (maybe retain me next year :soyegg:)
