Discussion Evaluating the Potential Use of Replays Within Smogdex Analyses

Jimothy Cool has some of the best educational Pokemon videos on YouTube, and fabricated replays (that make their fabrication no secret) are a large part of that, helping illustrate whatever concept is being described. In general, his stuff puts entry level Smogon resources to shame; I encourage contributors to watch him if they haven't already and take notes.

I really like the idea of staged replays. Like has been mentioned earlier in this thread, people really don't want to read over a wall of text to see what a Pokemon does, they'd rather just see it in action. A nice replay drop-down or something similar to illustrate the point would be really great. I went ahead and made an example replay for Alomomola (definitely one of the easier ones to illustrate, but I think it gets the point across).

The other advantage of having these short replays as opposed to full games to illustrate a point is that it can often get lost, especially for newer players just trying to figure out what something does. "Ok I get that Alomomola wants to wish pass, but what about turn 36 where they made x play instead of doing y?" Having been involved in Trainer Academy like MrAldo for a number of years now this kind of trap is really easy for new players to fall into. If we're going to implement replays into our C&C system I think the most streamlined approach is the best one for newer players and contributors alike.
