Metagame Full Potential [July's LCotM!!!]

Quick question, when will the bans be implemented? I still can legally use agility but Electrode Hisui is stilll banned
this post will be useless in retrospect but just want to check when I can play a meta where I don't have to stress about doubling your speed and offenses in a single turn

This might be just me, but I feel like Blissey is really OP in this meta- I think having 255 HP AND an offensive stat that is equal to Koraidon and Miraidons Atk/Sp,Atk respectively is pretty insane, especially with its insane movepool, and STAB body slam having a chance to para is NOT fun if you are on the recieving end (me).
I litterally have Psychock on my Agility Bruxish (yes, its a viable stat, as dazzling protects you from First Impression, Sucker Punch and All Priority in general) so that it doesn't wall me
Considering how this meta allows you to run mixed sets, it's not difficult to handle a Blissey since clicking a physical move typically means it's OHKO'd or two shot.

Good point but at that point in time I was irritated that I kept on getting paralysed by max spdef body slam.
Tbh sometimes when I complain in reality its just coz I have a skill issue lmao

Idk if it is any good but I had an idea for Misty Surge+Misty Explosion (max def) Weezing Galar as a free switch to Max Spdef Regice, who has a free AV without the downsides of
1- Only running attacks (But with Misty Seed+Terrain it can also run amnesia)
2- Losing its boost (Knock off works on AV but not on a seed as it is consumed if you switch it in while terrain is up, and because of Clear Body you can only lose the 50% free boost from switching out or haze, the latter being very rare)
3- I don't have a number three, it just looks nicer if there is three reasons lol

If anyone wants to try it out, please go ahead because you will prob do better then me.
The current set I am using w regice is

Regice Misty seed
EVs- 252HP, 252 Sp.Def, (last 4 can go anywhere)
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt
-Earthquake
-Amnesia

Welp it has been a good minute since the last council update and with us just passing the middle of the month mark, we thought it was time to take a look at how the metagame has been shaping up and look at a few of the problematic issues people have mentioned in OMcord, the OM room, and the thread. So, without further ado, here is our latest update:

Gimlafkennpecha nerdSawkasmResults
:pmd/flutter mane: BANBANBANBAN4-0-0 BAN
:pmd/magearna:ABSDNBDNBBAN1-2-1 DO NOT BAN
AgilityBANBANABSBAN3-0-1 BAN

Due to the results of the above slate, we also had a secondary slate:

GimlafkennSawkasmResults
:pmd/dragapult:DNUDNUDNU0-3-0 DNU
:pmd/electrode-hisui:UNBANUNBANDNU2-1-0 UNBAN
:pmd/Iron bundle:UNBANUNBANUNBAN3-0-0 UNBAN
:pmd/jolteon:DNUUNBANDNU1-2-0 DNU
:pmd/spectrier:DNUUNBANDNU1-2-0 DNU
:pmd/talonflame:ABSUNBANDNU1-1-1 DNU
*pecha nerd is on LoA and as such did not vote on the 2nd slate

So with all of the above votes being publicized...

:sv/flutter mane::sv/electrode-hisui::sv/Iron bundle:
Flutter Mane and Agility are BANNED while Electrode-Hisui and Iron Bundle are UNBANNED from Full Potential!

Hopefully this will alleviate a lot of the issues the council has been hearing about and seeing for themselves when it comes to the Speed demons. The Agility ban does hit a lot of the Speed boosters; however, the other +2 Speed boosting moves such as Rock Polish and Shift Gear are still readily available, but are on lesser used Pokemon. This may mean that those will rise up to be issues later on, but the council decided to hit Agility as it has made many a Pokemon become absolutely overbearing with things like Basculegion able to easily sweep in the endgame after getting just 1 boost. It also has enabled a lot of slower mons to be way to fast for faster Pokemon to keep up with as the distribution on this move is insane when compared to the likes of other similar moves. As for the unbans, we figured the council would have a quick vote on Pokemon that have been banned for abusing Speed boosting but ultimately we did agree most would end up bringing more bad than good and only vote to allow 2 unbans to occur; however, the 2 Pokemon will both be under high scrutiny as we continue this month's journey.

We hope that everyone is enjoying the OM and we know it is gonna look way different without Agility, so we will be keeping a close eye on everything as we head into the final days of the month! Thank you guys so much <3
Okay so update to this but I assumed that since pecha nerd was on LoA that he would abstain but they did end up voting early this morning and with that a couple of changes have occurred...

:pmd/electrode-hisui: is not unbanned (vote is now 2-2 and therefore not a majority)

:pmd/talonflame: is unbanned (vote is now 2-1-1 and therefore there is a majority to unban)

tagging dhelmise with this update (though they are already aware as I reached out to him and other OM leaders first) and will update the quoted post with pecha's votes for transparency. Sorry for the scare guys and UT now do you still hate me?

oh ok.
Time to use bird power to get it banned again

I played a ton of Full Potential and tried making my own tier list. It ended up being pretty exhaustive... and had to go through major overhauls as the meta shifted from one focused around checking greedy agility users to one that's more bulky. I didn't order mons within the tiers, but I think it's pretty good. Feel free to let me know what you think, it would be nice to get some discussion here.

Any thoughts on Morpeko? I don't see it anywhere in this thread and it's getting a lot more use from me than I thought I'd be able to get out of it. Aura Wheel really slaps with the speed boost and can be a good mid game sweep if you get a good matchup.

Love this VR. Only notes are that Jirachi is missing, and considering it had previously been noted by council as likely being S tier it should at least be in one of the A tiers. As for the other rankings, I do think that Cryogonal and Regice could probably be swapped, though that might partially be recency bias. At the very least I do think Regice should be the highest rated Regi thanks to the utility and power of Assault Vest. Hard to make definitive comments on the others but I do agree with the S and A+ at least, though Araquanid being A might also be a bit high for it.

I tried it out during the first couple days of the month cause I love the little guy but it just lacks in power and no good coverage on the special side. I'd try it again but there's so much priority moves flying.

For the VR I'd say that Araq is too high and basc is still be slept on

There’s a few mons I forgot… Clefable, Jirachi, Morpeko are all absent but I think they are viable.

I really think Cryogonal is better than Regice, it doesn’t have exploitable low speed and can enter battle easier and hit both sides with strong Ice moves. It can Spin and also has a strong Ice Shard to pick off fast mons which was really relevant in the Agility meta. Regice is very powerful but hampered by low Speed that makes its lower physical bulk easier to pick on. But there has definitely been situations where it can just click a button and get a kill. I feel like it’s a more narrow use case. Cryogonal just offers more to a team.

As for Araquanid I think it’s really annoying how it just destroys everything with its powerful Water moves or tanks hits and gets everything back with leech. Pretty much nothing wants to take a Water attack on its weaker defense. Araquanid is also an amazing user of Stockpile cause of ability to heal up with Leech, and sometimes you will just lose to it tanking and healing on your entire team. Overall it feels a lot harder to wear down than other slow powerful mons in the meta.

Basculegion is still probably stupid because Last Respects is a thing for some reason, but I haven’t really seen it since the Agility ban so idk.

Araq seems fair so far, but I'm new so not sure if people are using it more effectively higher on the ladder
Eviolite or sash basculin (rattled) is also a thing (big fan) because higher speed not sure how viable though :wo:

First off, you guys have been absolutely killing it from what I have seen such as readytolose and their VR as well as the plethora of ideas in both OMcord and OM's PS! room; however, as the month is winding down and Full Potential's ladder is only about a week away from no longer existing (will still be challengeable though!), council decided to vote on a couple of things!

:pmd/talonflame:BANBANABSBAN3-0-1 BAN
:pmd/terapagos-terastal:BANBANABSBAN3-0-1 BAN
Last RespectsBANBANABSBAN3-0-1 BAN

:sv/talonflame::sv/terapagos-terastal:
Talonflame, Terapagos and Last Respects are BANNED from Full Potential!

Talonflame proved that even without Agility, priority Flying STAB alongside the usual utility it had prior to the Agility ban was too much to bear especially without things like Diancie and Tyranitar around to tank its STABs. Terapagos sort of shot up in usage as one of the last few surviving +2 Speed sweepers with access to Rock Polish coupled with an amazing ability in Tera Shell to allow it to get a free turn to setup and 6-0. Last Respects was more of a "healthiness" ban than anything as the move kinda mandated a Normal type to not just be potentially swept by Houndstone, Basculegion (even without Agility !!!), and even Smeargle!

With those above bans in mind, the council has also decided to try and sneak in a last minute survey for you guys to give us all your thoughts on the current metagame and what you feel like may stick out as potential issues.

>>FP SURVEY #2 HERE<<

The council will hopefully have one last slate before the end of the month in relation to the survey to make sure we top it off on a high note and maybe also put out some samples and an official VR if we can squeeze it in

Any tips for team building? I’m finding it impossible to build a balanced team when everything is a mixed attacker that also has bulk. Every game seems to just end in a 6-0 one way or another because of some insane threat with unlimited coverage

some setup threats are a bit overwhelming and demand a counter (amnesia comfey, shift gear cyclizar, and a few others). I've found the best way is to have bulky offense answers that don't need setup in the backline until needed. Also instead of having setup sweepers yourself, I've found mons that set up while making progress (albeit less guaranteed) are great counters (stamina archaludon, weak armor mons bonus points for endure, blunder policy mon with very strong inaccurate moves, or even flame charge/trailblaze/aqua step)

Thanks for the tips! My brain is so used to having strong counters to things so it’s a hard mindset to get into lol

Hi. Just Aresia, Manically Hex, and I took quite a bit of interest in this metagame during its latest stages and this has personally been the most fun I have had casually laddering in a very long time. I want to take some time and share my favorite piece on my favorite team Just Aresia and I built because I don't think what it does gets talked about enough here:

My version: :ting-lu: :corviknight: :dusclops: :palafin: :cinderace: :tinkaton:

Just Aresia's version: :ting-lu: :corviknight: :dusclops: :palafin: :cinderace: :fezandipiti:

Don't get me wrong, everything here is important but I don't think any of this would work nearly as consistently as it does without banded Jet Punch from the super cetacean. I think this is the only mon I used actual attacking investment on the enitre time I was playing.

:palafin-hero:
Palafin (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Zero to Hero
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Jet Punch
- Boomburst / Wave Crash (Just Aresia's version)
- Flip Turn
- Close Combat

This is about as vanilla as a Palafin can get but it is so good at keeping the team in the game that it really doesn't matter. Jet Punch is just a very very strong tool that will reverse games without too many conditions to meet. JA was a bit smarter than I was here in running Wave Crash instead of Boomburst as I think Wave Crash breaks the game down into a Jet Punch focused endgame better. At any rate, Palafin is very good at bullying Jet Punch resists by itself and it isn't hard to bully the exceptions with the rest of a team. Jet Punch is very very good and you all should use it more.

I hope this metagame returns soon so we can actually look at an Assault Vest evaluation (this item is summy strong on so many mons).

On a far less serious note, citizen fin got 4 KOs:

Greetings everyone!

The month has drawn to a close, so it's about time we unveil the results of the survey. Don't mind the fact that it's me instead of kenn.
In any case, the results can be seen here:

:sv/chi-yu: :sv/dusclops:
Chi-Yu and Dusclops have been BANNED from Full Potential!

:Dusclops: Dusclops came up a lot during this month, and for good reason: Being able to turn its Eviolite-enhanced bulk into an offensive powerhouse that can circumvent its speed issue with either Shadow Sneak or Trick Room... or just by sheer staying power (if you'd dare squeeze in Leech Life or even Pain Split into its moveset).
It was incredibly hard to take down (let alone OHKO); in its worst case it trades with whatever is on the opponent's side, and in its best case it sets up its own TR sweep. So ultimately, it was banned.

:Chi-Yu: This may seem unexpected to some, but Chi-Yu still took advantage of the metagame: Beads of Ruin softened up the various Assault Vest mons and it could itself use Assault Vest due to its Special Defense stat not trailing far behind its Special Attack (which then allowed it to fire off Overheat with reckless abandon).
It could also abuse Flame Charge, not necessarily for a power boost, but simply to prevent revengekilling attempts. Being resistant to several forms of priority (as well as its AV sets taking Vacuum Wave just fine) did not help matters either.

Tagging dhelmise to implement, please and thank you!
And thank you to everyone who has contributed during this month!
