Pet Mod Like A Muse To Flame

lYSK5mp.png

You've probably heard of it before...where you have to base your design around an existing one, a form of frame, or template...this in turn saves time having to build the thing from scratch, but at the same time, you have to adapt according to the available designs.
But sometimes, frames, can lead to speculation. Take Nacli, for example...when it was first leaked way back in the days where the most recent Pokémon to be revealed was Farigiraf, all that was known about it was it's appearance...but that didn't stop the fans from filling in the missing gaps. It's name, it's type, even what it potentially evolved into. It has happened a lot before with all the Pokémon that got revealed before their evolutions...here's looking to you, Fire/Fighting starters. And sometimes, it can be the other way around...hands up to those who thought that Terapagos's base form was a separate Pokémon when it was initially revealed. And hands up to those who thought that, when it was revealed, Alomomola was a Luvdisc evolution.
And to those who remember when Corviknight was playable in Showdown before Pokémon Sword and Shield was released or it's stats, movepool, or hidden ability were even revealed...I salute you. Eventually, though, the remaining tidbits will eventually get revealed, even if they get leaked, and the speculation surrounding them fades away. We remember when we all thought that Crabrawler's reveal at the Pokémon World Championships meant it was going to be a top tier OU Pokémon...only to find out, that, when the game came out, it was actually just another LC Fighting type those evolution wasn't even NU. But hey, at least it was Alola's only new Ice-type that isn't a regional form....

...But what if...that reveal never came?
What if...we had to fill in the details ourselves?
This is...LIKE A MUSE TO FLAME. The micrometa Pet Mod...where we create a metagame with nothing but the sprites that you yourselves must bless with an identity.

To understand how this works, we must invite some special guests over to help us out...come over, from Scribblenauts, Dragon, Minotaur, and Haetae! Now, we're going to assume that their sprites are for Pokémon we've never seen before....
THE START OF A SLATE
At the start of each slate, there will be a foreword that details a belief we had in the past in Pokémon reveals...then, three sprites will be shown below, marked Designs A, B, and C.
DESIGN A:
ZgFFPpc.png

DESIGN B:
61xsJ6n.png

DESIGN C:
R2VgGxh.png

Now, in a real slate, the three sprites would be unique designs hand crafted by Ubertrainer2000 himself using Aseprite! Just be warned that the sprites might look different from offical Pokémon sprites.

CREATING A SUBMISSION
To create your submission, choose one of the designs above and write down what you think the Pokémon's stats, moves, and abilities are like. You must list the design's sprite above your entry, but otherwise, you may do this in any way you'd wish, except for one rule: If a design lists more than one sprite, your submission must make use of all of them! However, I prefer you use the below template for maximum effect:
Name: The Pokémon's name. (The words that make up the Pokémon's name)
Type: The Pokémon's type combination. The types are
normal.gif
bug.gif
dark.gif
dragon.gif
electric.gif
fairy.gif
fighting.gif
fire.gif
flying.gif
ghost.gif
grass.gif
ground.gif
ice.gif
poison.gif
psychic.gif
rock.gif
steel.gif
water.gif
.
Abilities: Choose up to three abilities to give to the Pokémon.
Stats: HP/Attack/Defence/Special Attack/Special Defence/Speed (Total)
Weight: How heavy the Pokémon is in kg. This is necessary for moves such as Heavy Slam and Grass Knot.
Movepool: List out all of the moves that the Pokémon can learn here. How it learns them doesn't matter. This micrometa uses the Gen 9 TM list, so all submissions are required to know these moves: Hyper Beam, Giga Impact, Take Down, Facade, Substitute, Tera Blast, Protect, Endure, Sleep Talk, Rest
Custom Elements: You may list up to two new moves or abilities for the Pokémon. For abilities, list them as "Ability Name: The ability's effect". For moves, list them as "Move name: Power/BP, Type, Category, PP, Accuracy, effect.)
Flavor: List out a description about what you think the Pokémon can do in the wild, or how it serves a purpose in the world.
Role: List out your Pokémon's role in this micrometa: Remember to take the previous winners into account. For example, you can assign it as a Setup Sweeper, or a Pivot.
You are allowed to submit one submission for each design listed above. For example, you can submit a submission each for Designs A and C, but you can't submit two submissions for Design A. So, with that being said, here is an example submission using Design A as a base:
ZgFFPpc.png

Name: Examplorge (Example + George)
Type:
dragon.gif
grass.gif

Abilities: Intimidate/Grassy Surge/Shed Skin
Stats: 80/90/80/75/100/100 (525)
Weight: 86.4kg.
Movepool: Dragon Claw, Outrage, Dragon Pulse, Draco Meteor, Dragon Dance, Iron Head, Earthquake, Leaf Blade, Roar, Grassy Glide, Grassy Terrain, Giga Drain, Hyper Beam, Giga Impact, Take Down, Facade, Substitute, Tera Blast, Protect, Endure, Sleep Talk, Rest
Custom Elements: None (This is just an example)
Flavor:
This dragon flies across the world, spreading out examples to those who are lacking in knowledge. It is said to only appear before those who have missed out on a period of education in the past, whether it be because of a calamity in the world, or because the person was unable to take on education, such as if they were sick.
Role: A Sweeper that can use Iron Head to take care of Ice-types, and use Dragon Dance to set up for a powerful sweep.
CASTING YOUR VOTES
Once I personally close submissions, which will usually be warned beforehand by an announcement of "Get your submissions in soon, I am tallying them up for voting as I speak!", it will become voting time immediately. The three designs will once again be listed out, this time with the submissions that the people made for them being listed below them, like so:
DESIGN A:
ZgFFPpc.png

Sir William The Knight's Green Dragon
Bowser Jr's Doofally
The DJ42's Examplorge
A Murloc's Mrglah
DESIGN B:

61xsJ6n.png

Cat Noir's Miraculotaur
Jimmy's Beefire
Kayven's Golsora
A Murloc's Grrosh
DESIGN C
:
R2VgGxh.png

Frontier's The Battle Begins
Daiyakuza's Iron Legend
Angie Yonaga's Atualion
A Murloc's Mrglagaihahkal

None of these are actual Smogon users, in a real slate they'd be the community's own creations! For each design, you may list up to five of the submissions within a comment to vote for them, like the one shown below:
DESIGN A:
ZgFFPpc.png

Sir William The Knight's Green Dragon
Bowser Jr's Doofally
The DJ42's Examplorge
A Murloc's Mrglah
DESIGN B:

Kayven's Golsora

DESIGN C

Daiyakuza's Iron Legend
Angie Yonaga's Atualion
A Murloc's Mrglagaihahkal

...Yes, I know that's the same as the voting options we just showed, but it is an example of what you should type in! There are only two caveats to your vote: Whoever is on the top counts as two votes instead of one, and you cannot put your own submission at the top. For example, if you were Maxwell....
...This would be allowed.
Wario's Really Stinky Ant Monster That Smells of Garlic (Counts as two votes!)
Maxwell's Antiga

But this wouldn't.
Maxwell's Antiga
Wario's Really Stinky Ant Monster That Smells of Garlic

Once voting concludes, I shall tally up the votes, and whoever has the most votes in each design will enter the micrometa! Then, the next slate will begin soon after with three new sprites.
GOOD LUCK!
How many slates do you plan to have?
Hopefully until we run out of Generation 9! But, there is one relief: We will be taking a hiatus after Slate 10, when the micrometa has 30 Pokémon in it.
Will this be on Dragonhaven?
Certainly! But not until at least after slate 4, when the micrometa has 12 Pokémon in it.
How long will a slate last?
It depends, I have a lot to do on my other projects, including contributing to other Pet Mods! But, rest assured, you'll have at least a week to submit your submissions. I will let you know on this thread when submissions will close. Voting always lasts, unless otherwise stated, one to two days.
What is a micrometa?
A micrometa is a metagame that has no returning Pokémon in it, only new ones. For example, "INSERT WINNER HERE" would be legal, but Blissey would be not. Usually, Terastalization is also banned within it.
A Pokémon's broken! What shall we do?
List the problematic beast out on the Discord Server, and the community can discuss about how it is nerfed here. The server also contains a workshop that you can use to get the community to see how your submission fits in the metagame.
Do you need help?
Well, I need someone who can program moves and abilities into the metagame through Github: Scoopapa's special code generator (https://scoopapa.github.io/PS-Spreadsheet-to-JS/) can handle everything else...but if only he'd change "Species" to "Name", gah!
Will there actually be a muse in this one?
...Depends.
Like a Muse To Flame is a trademarked Pet Mod of the Smogon University, approved by Community Leader Yoshiblaze. (2025-2026) (I hope that's when Gen 10 comes out!)

SLATE 1: THE COLORS ARE A LIE!
"Twas the reveal of the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, when we first learnt about the Loyal Three: Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezendipiti. Their Toxic Chain abilities allowed us to know they were at least part-Poison, but back when they were first revealed, the Pokémon Company, for some reason, did not reveal their typings. But from their colorations alone, we assumed they were a different type before they were eventually revealed with the release of The Teal Mask. Okidogi, a Poison/Fighting type, was believed to be a Grass-type because he had shades of green. Munkidori, who turned out to be a Poison/Psychic type, was thought to be part Water-type because he had shades of blue. And because of her shades of red, the Poison/Fairy Fezendipiti was believed to be part Fire-type. And thus we learnt an important lesson...the colour of a Pokémon doesn't exactly confirm it's type. ...Or does it?"
So, with that aside...here are the first three sprites! These three designs are itching to be the first three Pokémon of the metagame...now it's up to you to provide the spark of life in the form of a submission!

You may start submitting now. Stay tuned for the deadline, but you might want to have your submissions done before Sunday...GOOD LUCK!

Custom Elements:
Firebreathing: Uses ember immediately after using an attacking move. Only works on this Pokémon’s first full turn, resets on switch out.
Flavor: Crabs IS bugs and I basically just went with: yeah fire underground crab person. Anyway.
Mantltorch is the Cave Lava pokemon, and it is most commonly seen as larger than it actually is. In truth, the “head” visible on top of its head is molten lava that has hardened into a head shape to ward off predators. Due to the depth of which they live, they are rarely found. Don’t let their misleading size fool you either, as they are extremely fast due to their powerful legs which can group together to deliver truly powerful blows.
Role: Mixed offensive cleaner than can deal significant amount of priority damage with first impression, but requires a proper mixed investment
IMG_3380.png

Name: Wreckerowth
Type:
Grass/Rock

Movepool: Head Smash, Wood Hammer, Stealth Rock, Earthquake, Volt Switch, Superpower, Bullet Seed, Rock Blast, Stone Edge, Leech Seed, Leaf Storm, Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Night Slash, Spiky Shield
Custom Elements: n/a
Flavor:
an ancient species of root pokemon that has survived for thousands of years through their evolutionary
Role: I you and on everything and anyone’s Souls (except mine), we all love ruingross. This provides a sizable breaker with workable enough stats that allow it to consistently push rocks on the field, or just shred through bulky mons while relying on more offensive checks than defensive checks

Leviatlas was confused about why, but one day Arceus explained that it was getting replaced by Kyogre. Leviatlas was heartbroken and has been brooding in the deepest trench of the ocean ever since. It is said that if Leviatlas were ever to come face to face with Kyogre, it would get completely destroyed as Kyogre was significantly stronger.
Role:
* Scourge of the Sea: While this Pokemon is active, all Pokemon have the Water-type added as a third typing.
* Heartbreak: Water, Special, 60 BP, 100 acc, 10 (16) pp, Hits two turns later. Turns the target into a Luvdisc.

SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED!
Alright, it is time....for the FIRST VOTE. Here are the three designs again, alongside the submissions that our community have posted on this thread, on what they think their true identities are.
DESIGN A:
I9kNIkh.png

Orangesodapop's Wreckerowth
anaconja's Kamukusa
ErrorMon's Ectulpa
PalpitoadChamp's Garittoul
Cyaneedle's Radiger
DESIGN B:

ZHpgcOH.png

Orangesodapop's Mantltorch

anaconja's idk (Odd name, isn't it?)
ErrorMon's Dastapose
PalpitoadChamp's Delasher

DESIGN C: (This one got the least submissions, poor thing)

CRNarSZ.png

Cyaneedle's Nightglare

anaconja's Ryuumi
PalpitoadChamp's Leviatlas

Remember, for this vote, the topmost submission of each design in your vote will count as two votes, and you cannot put your own submission as the top vote. For example, if you were to copy the above text exactly, then Wreckerowth, Mantltorch, and Nightglare would get two votes instead of one. The submissions with the most votes in each design will enter the metagame.
Voting will last until tomorrow, hopefully...(With the votes planning to close around 11:00 GMT) GOOD LUCK!

For Design A, there is three way tie between Orangesodapop's Wreckerowth, Cyaneedle's Radiger, and Errormon's Ectulpa. Rather than letting fate decide their...well, fates, we will be holding a tiebreaker at the next slate that will be shorter than the slate itself. Stay tuned!

ZHpgcOH.png

But for the other two, we have a winner...Courtesy of Errormon, Design B will now be known as Dastapose, a Poison/Dark mixed wall that is resistant to contact moves with it's unique ability, Bright Marking.

CRNarSZ.png

And for Design C, it will now be known as Ryuumi, submitted by anaconja! This Water/Dragon starter serves as an offensive pivot with Regenerator and his unique move, Dragon Spin!
Thank you for your votes...Dastapose and Ryuumi will be entering the database soon, and the next slate will be beginning...very soon! Take care....

SLATE 2: VGC - VIDEO GAME CALAMITY
“I’m sure all of you remember the horror that was Crabrawler…when it was first revealed during the 2016 Pokémon World Championships, we were amazed. Seeing it smash apart the top XY OU threats with ease, while showing off it’s amazing coverage, made us wonder if it was going to be the new king of the Sun and Moon OU, which had not yet come out. It was an amazement spread out in front of us. But this amazement turned into speculation when, during a Japanese livestream, Crabrawler struggled to deal with the Totem Gumshoos, even though the levels might have been it’s undoing. And this speculation turned to horror, when Pokémon Sun and Moon finally released…and it was found that Crabrawler was actually an LC Pokémon that had an EVOLUTION. An evolution…that spent it’s glory time in it’s debut generation…in PU. And thus we were forced to look for those other options, which made us learn an important lesson…never trust the reveals.”
Hopefully, these next three designs will not share it's horrendous fate, and actually become the kings....their appearances have been catalogued since ancient times, and it's up to you to add in the rest of the details with the magic they call creativity! Remember to take Ryuumi and Dastapose into account when designing your submission's roles, alongside the winner of the tiebreaker when it concludes...

Submissions will be open until this Sunday, and then the voting period will last from Sunday to Monday! (The next one, not this one)
TIEBREAKER! (NOT PART OF THIS SLATE)

I9kNIkh.png

You need to decide whether Design A from the first slate should belong to either Orangesodapop's Wreckerowth, Cyaneedle's Radiger, or Errormon's Ectulpa. Votes on the tiebreaker will be closing this Tuesday/Wednesday, but since this is separate from the slates, you don't need to worry about rushing your submission together!
ALSO....HAVE YOUR SPRITES JOIN THIS METAGAME!
Following a question on the discord, I can now proudly announce that your sprites could join this metagame! A sprite workshop is now open on the Discord server, where you can post your sprites for a chance to have them featured in a Muse To Flame Slate! GOOD LUCK!

Name: Sanbandit
Type: Flying/Ground
Ability: Pickpocket | Sticky Hold
Stats: 100/55/75/85/80/105 (500)
Weight: 12kg
Movepool: Vaccum Bag (Flying Giga Drain) Spikes, Knock Off, Parting Shot, Earth Power, Nasty Plot, Dark Pulse, Hyper Voice, Extreme Speed, Taunt, Teleport, Wish, Heat Wave, Air Slash,

Double Edge, Facade, Take Down, Sky Attack

Flavor: A common pest-like rodent that is evasive and elusive, only striking when an unaware trainer seems to be flashing their valuables a bit too much. Sanbandit’s steal from Pokemon and trainers alike, but often don’t have a sense of value—they only grab really shiny objects, much to trainers dismay as cellphones often fit that profile.
Role: flying ground mon with bad stats but good movepool

As for the tie I will self vote. I will shamelessly put ruingross into any pet mod I have the chance to

Flavor: Often guarding random paths by blending in with the environment, Duplinaught have on occasion hidden caves and common routes leading to important towns, getting trainers and Pokemon lost
Role: fat dual type spinblocker that can utilize draining kiss / pain split for recovery off its low hp, but also can jumpscare mons with illusion. Both illusion and filter are equally usable depending on role

Flavor: Elemental of fire and water who uses its powerful magic to cheat at card games. This is one of my favorite designs so far.
Role: Offensive pivot with a do all master of none signature with lots of nice but mid effects (1/4 heal is nice, but too low to be consistent. Psycho Shift is nice, but immunities + fails if they are already statused. Thief effect only matters with a consumable/getting knocked. Last Resort isn't an easy effect to activate.)
* Pyromaniac: This Pokemon's Dark-type moves become Fire-type and vice versa. Both get a 1.2x boost.
* Ace in the Hole: Fire, Status, - BP, ,- acc, 5 (8) pp, Heals the user by 1/4 of their max Hp. User attempts to give its status condition to the opposing Pokemon. If holder isn't holding an item, attempts to steal the opposing Pokemon's item. If user already used all its other moves, Curses the opposing Pokemon.

It might be a bit late, but the tiebreaker is now CLOSED. Submissions for slate 2 will remain open until Sunday, however.
....But it seems like only one person voted. Regardless, with one vote, Design A will now be known as the winner of the tiebreaker, Orangesodapop's Wreckerowth! This Grass/Rock type is supposedly designed off Delta Metagross-Ruin from Pokémon Insurgance, and is a starter, meaning we're now missing just Fire...Wreckerowth will be added to the database soon, remember to take him into account when designing your submissions!
