Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
: Transform Description: This is like 75% a joke, but Ditto/Ditto-like mons are exceedingly rare in micrometas in general, so having this get in early as a built in offense check (and ruler to measure how strong offense gets) is pretty interesting.
Illusion - Same effects as vanilla, user takes 50% damage from attacks while the Illusion is active
Item: Stellar Gem Origin: Hidden Gems Effect: Holder's first successful attack will have 1.3x power. Single use. Description: Another boosting item option, being a one-time drawbackless Life Orb. Can pair with stuff like Unburden if any abusers of that get added later but for now it's just a boosting option. Best for Acrobatics users.
Item: Air Balloon Origin: Hide and Seaking Effect: Holder is immune to Ground-type attacks. Pops when holder is crit. Description: Basically an MG2 Air Balloon, new kind of defensive item that can either remove Ground weaknesses or let stuff float above Spikes.
Base Stats: 90 / 120 / 120 / 80 / 90 / 100 [BST: 600] Abilities: Rock Head / Stamina / Hustle (HA) Relevant Moves:
: Headlong Rush, Earthquake, Head Smash, Stone Edge, Close Combat, Body Press, Rapid Spin
:
: Spikes, Stealth Rock, Pain Split, Swords Dance
Headlong Rush, Earthquake, Bulldoze, Head Smash, Stone Edge, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Rollout, Rock Blast, Wild Charge, Close Combat, Body Press, Iron Head, Zen Headbutt, Head Charge, Double-Edge, Take Down, Body Slam, Facade, Headbutt, Tackle, Earth Power, Scorching Sands, Hyper Voice, Spikes, Sandstorm, Stealth Rock, Pain Split, Protect, Rapid Spin, Rest, Sleep Talk, Substitute, Swords Dance
Description: A versatile glue mon originating from the memetic Balls! Its good and balanced stats on top of Stamina, as well as two potentially good offensive abilities gives it a lot of versatility on top of setting hazards and spinning. It might be a bit much for the power level but most balls are broken so we might as well try.
Air Slash, Aura Sphere, Blizzard, Close Combat, Dark Pulse, Discharge, Double-Edge, Draco Meteor, Dragon Claw, Dragon Dance, Dragon Energy, Dragon Pulse, Dragon Rush, Drain Punch, Earth Power, Earthquake, Earthquake, Energy Ball, Facade, Fire Blast, Fire Punch, Flamethrower, Flare Blitz, Focus Blast, Head Charge, Headbutt, Headlong Rush, Hurricane, Hydro Pump, Hyper Voice, Ice Beam, Ice Punch, Icy Wind, Iron Head, Knock Off, Nasty Plot, Outrage, Protect, Psychic, Psyshock, Rapid Spin, Recover, Rest, Rock Blast, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Rollout, Shadow Ball, Sleep Talk, Spikes, Stealth Rock, Stone Edge, Substitute, Superpower, Tackle, Take Down, Thunder, Thunder Punch, Thunder Wave, Thunderbolt, Weather Ball, Wild Charge, Will-O-Wisp, Zen Headbutt
Description: Dragonball has always been one of the weaker balls despite its incredible movepool due to its awkward stat spread for an Ubers metagame, with average at best bulk and poor speed. But it's versatility is much more valuable in an OU metagame especially with an incredible buff in Vessel of Ruin. It can serve as a good wall or bulky attacker with its immense utility and incredible coverage. Shouldn't be too overwhelming either.
Description: In the Balls metagame, Virus was a top-tier defensive option due to its unique utility. At the time it was the only mon with access to toxic spikes, knock off, and regenerator. That made it quite valuable despite its comparably lower stats. However, in an OU metagame where that sort of utility is common place, and there's more counterplay to toxic spikes, Virus should be a balanced option. It's still quite bulky and can provide decent progress with its solid attack and poison-spreading moves, on top of Knock Off. Still has the potential to be unhealthy so we'll see if it's allowed.
Pokemon: Baxgeist-Large Origin: Fusion Evolution OU Type:
Base Stats: 95 / 120 / 110 / 70 / 80 / 85 [BST: 560] Abilities: Frisk Exchange: Combined effects of Frisk and Thermal Exchange. Relevant Moves:
Description: Remember this guy from the second post popular pet mod? Not really? I don't care! Despite having little usage and generally ranking mid to low, it's still an OU power mon with great stats, a decent typing, and strong STABs, allowing it to be your wallbreaker or sweeper of choice.
Description: If you remember Fakemon Frontier by any chance, hopefully you know of this little guy! He wasn't noteworthy at first but managed to climb up the rankings as a solid A ranked mon. Its good SpA, great offensive typing, amazing STABs and movepool, and surprising defensive utility with its special bulk and Levitate made it a decent threat. While it's still very physically frail and has middling speed, its power makes up for it.
Weight: 404kg Description:
Mixed Ground-type wall. Should be an interesting addition to the metagame as it has a good type combination, paired with good defensive stats, and can fill hazard control roles with its access to Spikes and Defog. Also has a unique tool in Natural Cure Rest, giving it loads of longevity when used right, that other walls may not have.
Weight: 63kg Description:
Tail Glow, Supreme Overlord, and an amazing 131 Spe stat, make this a Pokemon that can become a very scary late-game cleaner. But on the early game, it needs a Tail Glow boost to deal any good damage, as its base 95 SpAtk is extremely underwhelming on its own, and its practically useless defensively, as while its got decent bulk, its Ice/Flying type can only switch into very few types, and it is most of the time locked into Heavy-Duty Boots as its item.
Pokémon: Iron Crest Origin: Blank Canvas Type: Flying/Fighting Base Stats: 72/96/78/114/72/98 [BST: 530] Abilities: Quark Drive Relevant Moves:
: Acrobatics, Drill Peck, Close Combat, Poltergeist, Flare Blitz, U-Turn
Drill Peck, Air Slash, Calm Mind, Victory Dance, Brick Break, Aura Sphere, Acrobatics, Revelation Dance, Secret Sword, Close Combat, Psychic, Thunderbolt, Poltergeist, Flare Blitz, Roost, U-Turn, Taunt, Electric Terrain, Aerial Ace, Air Cutter, Feather Dance, Fly, Gust, Peck, Pluck, Sky Attack, Wing Attack, Counter, Arm Thrust, Low Sweep, Quick Guard, Reversal, Rock Smash, Vacuum Wave, Take Down, Rest, Sleep Talk, Snore, Protect, Facade, Substitute, Tera Blast
Weight: 1.9kg Description:
Mixed sweeper. Can run physical sweeping sets with Victory Dance, and special sweeping sets with Calm Mind. Physical sets have the better coverage, and can boost their speed, unlike the special sets, while the special sets can still be threatening when non-boosted, unlike the physical sets.
Pokémon: Seaode Origin: Blank Canvas Type: Rock/Water Base Stats: 70/110/100/40/70/95 [BST: 485] Abilities: Rock Head Relevant Moves:
: Wave Crash, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Stone Axe, Flip Turn, Wood Hammer, Leech Life, Poison Fang, Leech Life, Rapid Spin
: Power Gem, Surf
: Stealth Rock, Rock Polish, Recover
Rock Slide, Power Gem, Liquidation, Surf, Wave Crash, Wood Hammer, Flip Turn, Dive, Chilling Water, Stone Axe, Stealth Rock, Stone Edge, Rock Polish, Leech Life, Bulldoze, Iron Tail, Poison Fang, Thunder Fang, Rapid Spin, Recover, Take Down, Rest, Sleep Talk, Snore, Protect, Facade, Substitute, Tera Blast
Weight: 121kg Description:
Scarfer. While it doesn't have as much damage output as other possible scarfers, STAB Rock Head Wave Crash should be good enough, but what it lacks in power, its got utility, as it can work as a great Stone Axe lead, and if the opponent attempts to counterlead, it can Flip Turn out instead. It also carries a good bit of coverage in Rock Head Wood Hammer dealing with opposing Water-types, and Poison Fang/Leech Life to deal with Grass-types.
Weight: 80kg Description:
Wallbreaker. Its got an extremely high 130SpAtk stat, paired with its signature move, Gun Down, and it can be an effective scarfer, as to offset its somewhat low speed. Its also got access to Flip Turn and Switcheroo as to make better use of choiced items, and a plethora of coverage to choose from, it can also make its 130SpAtk go nuclear if instead of using Gun Down, it uses Focus Blast.
Passing by to check in on some submissions, to clear up some doubts and outline potentially problematic submissions. Submissions will remain open until August 1st.
Mega Ability: Snow Warning
Snowscape - Ice / Status / - BP / 100 Acc / 20 (32) PP / Turns the target into a pure Ice-type. Gets Hail (idk how this would be done. You could tweak things a bit and have Snowscape unchanged and change Hail to the above change)
Torterranite would automatically be added if Mega Torterra wins, however it would not have its Mix n Mega effect; it'd be exclusively usable by the Torterra to Mega Evolve
Now for some vetos, tho only two subs really stand out to me in that regard:
With the combination of good bulk, strong type combo, hazards, U-turn, phazing and potential recovery with rest + early bird, this submission feels a little too strong. Granted, we don't have an established power level yet, but I feel a mon like this would push the entry barrier pretty high in a way that would be difficult for other mods to catch up to. So with that all said, I'll be vetoing Dondozo
: Spikes, Encore, Aurora Veil, Chilly Reception, Endure Description: Satan Incarnate. Insane mixed glass cannon that uses Refrigerate and Pixilate to Extreme Speed things into hell. Where this thing belongs. Hail Satan. Also has Spin + Spikes IG, and Iron Bundle stabs (Freeze Pump).
Custom Elements: Perfect Freeze (!)
Ice / Special
100 BP / 100 Acc / 1 PP
100% Freeze. Recharge.
Base Stats: 105 / 62 / 80 / 130 / 90 / 33 [BST: 500] Abilities: Regain Patience - Effects of Regenerator and Berserk
Relevant Moves:
Knock Off
Draco Meteor, Psyshock, Psychic, Future Sight, Flamethrower, Fire Blast
Defog, Glare, Recover
Drampa's movepool + Reuniclus' movepool
Description: Drampiclus is a tank that sponges damage and fires off powerfull moves back through its 130 Sp. Atk, often boosted by its ability. It functions well as a defensive pivot and can help position its allies with Future Sight and make progress with Knock Off. Usually likes to run AV, but sometimes foregoes that in order to use Glare or Defog. Has very varied coverage so it can slot something like Hydro Pump or Thunderbolt to capitalize on weaknesses of a specific target.
Description: Mud is yout standard Pet Mods Bulky Mon, with hazards, pivotting and Knock Off. It functions similarly to a Swampert, making use of its great defensive typing and bulky statline to make up for its lack of good recovery options. Not too much to dive into, what you see is what you get here
100 BP | Water | 90% Acc | Special | Restores the user’s HP by 50% of the damage dealt | 10/16 PP
Body Press, Grassy Glide, Rapid Spin, Aqua Tail, Body Slam, Earthquake, Facade, Gyro Ball, Liquidation, Rock Slide, Seed Bomb, Stone Edge, Waterfall, Zen Headbutt, Branch Poke, Bulldoze, Bullet Seed, Fissure, Flail, Giga Impact, Grassy Glide, Heavy Slam, Razor Leaf, Rock Tomb, Stomping Tantrum, Take Down
Bouncy Bubble, Scald, Giga Drain, Ancient Power, Earth Poqwer, Energy Ball, Grass Knot, Hydro Pump, Leaf Storm, Surf, Tera Blast, Water Spout, Weather Ball, Chilling Water, Hyper Beam, Magical Leaf, Mega Drain, Solar Beam, Water Gun, Water Pulse
Description: Physical wall that also enables Rain and Terrain archetypes for future slates. Grassy Surge gives it longevity and offsets hazards damage for Rapid Spin sets, can run ID+BP to avoid being too passive. 95 Sp Atk does respectable damage under rain for a defensive mon as well
Item: Magearna Plushie Origin: Dollhouse Effect: If a Pokemon faints, boost Sp.Atk, Def, SpDef, or Speed by 1 stage depending on which is its highest stat. Once per switch-in. Description: Figured this could be an interesting alternative to Specs/Scarf for some mons, having less immediate effect compared to Choice items but letting you use different moves at will
Item: Madness Helmet Origin: Trading Post Effect: Boosts the power of the user's moves by 1.3x, but cannot select the same move twice in a row. Description: alternate option to Life Orb for Pokémon that want more longevity
* All customs have been cut because Zapdos wouldn't use any of them
just the birds: Whenever this Pokemon damages a target, they get the Bird volatile. Bird volatile: If Stealth Rock is on this Pokemon's side, take Stealth Rock damage, unless they are holding Heavy-Duty Boots.
Description: It's a Zapdos. Zapdos theorem goes that if Zapdos is available in metagame, it probably holds at least a tiny niche in the metagame, and is viable in 90% of them. Ignore any Ubers tiers please and thanks. It's an incredibly useful defensive piece thanks to good bulk, typing, and Static. It's a powerful offensive threat. And with just the birds, it can be incredibly powerful on hazard-stack teams to help rack up addition chip damage. It fits a wide range of teams and it's a Zapdos you already knew that.
