nah, I'm too lazy to do a wall of text, I'm here just for aurafarming and likes; I just wanna thank everyone who has been part of this tournament by Team Italy side, whoever has been in our server knows this win it's not only the result of our skill (even tho we goated) but of the environment we created there. It's never been about pixels (at least for me), it's always been about having fun and rage baiting Pais :3.

Congrats to italy on the win, especially empo punny santu and zs for the next level performances. Being blunt, in the months leading up to wcop I did not think we would get nearly this far before the tournament started up until round one. It was then where I saw firsthand what the best current gen ou core ever looked like firsthand. I can't even articulate how perfect the teamwork, coordination, and execution were from everyone involved. Vert, shiloh, and ima were great leaders. Emilio, attribute, fusien, tj, pzz were all teammates anyone would dream to be able to root for. Everyone else was great too, not just CG, Meru, frito, kusta, ruffles, all of our subs, I would vouch for every single one of you next SPL/SCL in a heartbeat. Beyond just the people you see playing the games, I want to recognize the helpers who put in overtime without even a possibility of a trophy for their efforts sire clod dex veti Hockey1 Ben gay Skarpherim. Very few teams are fortunate enough to have 20+ wcop teammate level prospects and it makes me excited to know you're all next up for a chance at showing your stuff once the washed boomers like me step down.

This wcop marks the last time for the near future I'll be able to participate in an official smogon tour firing on all cylinders (well, maybe one wouldnt have guessed that from some of my games but I swear I was trying my ass off). Skipping out on next SCL means I will be breaking my streak of participating in every single edition of SPL/WCOP/SCL for the past 9 years -- a streak of 27 played or managed in a row!! Currently only Finch and Soulwind I believe have me beat on that record on the site right now. I did want to hold the record at some point but real life has to take priority now. Just wanted to say a grateful thank you to all the teammates I've had be it the superpowers from 8 years ago or the first time rookies from this past wcop. We all may joke around about how "smogon is dying, tournaments are dead" but all it takes is a few people to keep the fire going year in and out. All the rookies on west make me confident I'll at least keep coming back to spectate every summer despite not knowing what my future holds career wise.
 
I always loved World Cup as a tour, reason being that its always so much fun to reunite with the same (or almost) group of people to compete together against other teams. Other team tours are really enjoyable because you get to meet new people of course, but over the years I felt like the team discords I was in got progressively less active each tour and I always thought that it had to do that with time lot of jerks have formed in the community and that people will always be more active within their jerk compared to their teamchat. This is why I love WCoP, even though we get busier through the years, we're still really active and its become a matter of enjoying the time together rather than simply getting the pixels. But obviously, winning it as well is a really amazing feeling that we already had experienced in 2020. I must admit that while I was really happy about our win that year, I never felt like my presence truly mattered that tour. My record that year was 3-2, not bad by any means, but to me it meant that I was never crucial for my team in the playing field. Then WCoP 2022 happened, Im 5-0 and I have the feeling that we could do it again, we're in semifinals after all, but we end up losing. This year I wanted the best of both worlds, I wanted to have a great record for my team and to win it all. I decided I wanted to play OU at the start of the tour, I didn't want to play UU for two reasons: one being that SCL wasn't too far off and second was that I really wanted to prep with the others and enjoy ladder calls which have been the most fun part of every wcop we've played. Obviously needless to say this didn't work out as I went 0-3 (ou council this tier sucks, isn't it time to finally do something?) and I was pretty sad about it. I thought we were really strong this year and that we had a really big chance to win and that just like the other time, I wouldn't be a big part of it, so after my loss in quarters I wanted to get subbed as I wasn't really feeling it. I talked to niko about it and he told me that he had talked to many of our players and nobody wanted me to not play, asking me to go back to UU so we could have our strongest possible lineup. I care a lot about whats best for the teams I play for, so I decided to say yes even though I wasn't really feeling it. I didn't play vs chile because we had already won the week and I had not one, but two exams the next week so I didn't want to waste time. Then it was finals time and like I said I had two exams so I had a really busy week. I used every moment I could find taking breaks from studying to prep something, as I always considered US West to be a really strong team and thus I felt like my game would have mattered. It was really hard for me to get a team for finals, I was really busy, coming off a 0-x tour and UU had just lost deoxys which was one of my favorite mons to use before. Nothing felt good to use and was starting to panic a little bit, but ultimately got saved by the greatest uu player of all time umbry who helped me clear my mind and find the right approach for the game, big thanks for that. Also thanks to Petros and Micciu for helping me as well. At this point we were down in the series and I knew I had to win my game. I also knew that my team pick was risky as I was about to use a fucking dipplin, but my teammates trusted me blindly even without seeing the team itself and this made me really confident and I ended up winning. Niko also won his game shortly after and we made tiebreak, I was so happy to at least have clutched that for my team. Then tricking dm'd me asking if I knew sv ubers, which to be honest I really didn't that much.. I had only seen games from SCL/WCoP when my teammates played and knew about some of the sets but just that. I told him if they thought this was the best choice to win the tour I'd obviously be down for it. He said he'd discuss with the other managers and then they confirmed I'd be playing.
I started grinding the tier the day after and it wasn't too bad, ladder helped me understand what were the common structures and what was good so I was able to make my own stuff. I ditched ladder to test with helpers/friends and started playing every kind of MU: webs, stall, regular balance/bulkyoff, spikes HO and others and the team was feeling good. I actually ended up making a lot of version of the team I used, which is something I never did before but thats not really relevant here. Sunday came and empo, like always, won. I started thinking my game wouldn't matter since zS was 6-0 and was playing great games, but he ended up losing the day after and it was my turn to carry him after he did it for weeks. I've rarely felt like I did for this tiebreak before my games... I wasn't too anxious, I was really confident in my prep and mostly was excited to win for my team who had showed me so much support this whole tour. I enter the game and when I saw hatterene I kinda panicked a little bit, but I remembered frito had used that kind of team multiple times so I grabbed the scout (huge thanks to Mada again for that) and I noticed some trend of hers with that playstyle and immediately felt more confident. 10 minutes later my lunala is facing a hatterene that cannot tera as I have another two fully-healthy mons behind with some friends cheering in the stours lobby. Omg I cluthed world cup!!! I was genuinely so happy about this because as I said multiple times already I always felt like my team never needed me that much and being the game that won it all just felt so good, definitely one of the best moments i've experienced during my pokemon career. Again, huge thanks to everyone who helped me for that game but mostly to RichardMillePlain for the amount of games we played and for the nice advice he provided.

Now onto personal shoutouts:

Ale Duncan: few scouts, lots of trashtalking the players... Jokes aside, I hadn't interacted much with you before this tour, but it was nice to spend hours with you and kibo fixing my slow ass laptop before the tour started. Loved memeing you and you memeing me, definitely one of the funniest parts of this wcop.

Empo: Im not going to praise your pokemon skills because its been done an ungodly amount of times (very deserved though ofc) so id like to focus on something else. The trait I appreciate the most about you is that I never see you talk bad about people, despite you being the most accomplished player on the site you remained humble and never trashtalk players, which feels so weird thinking about your ladder hero days. Knowing that you still have to play your game in the series is always a big relief, you never disappoint.

entrocefalo: Not a coincidence you're next to empo.... EMPOCEFALO. We've teamed not only last wcop but also in SCL in 2023 and I have a lot of respect for you in ubers. I won't lie to you I did feel a little bad for playing in tiebreak instead of you... but the amount of help you gave me and in such a genuine way made me realize how amazing you are as a person as well, as admittedly even though we teamed in the past I still didn't know you that well. Big big thanks for playing a ton of games with me for tiebreak and obviously for your input during prep, you're goated

Going Hard: You're such a kind soul, always up to help. You prepared some of our ladder alts and gave us scouts and selfscouts every round and you were always up to watch us ladder and talk with us and also up everytime we played. You were a really big part of this tour for me even though you didn't play. Thanks for all your efforts :heart:

H.M.N.I.P: IL DON. You've become one of my favorite individuals to interact with on this site. So funny, always up to joke, ladder or streaming tinder (even though you did not this year :c) but I also enjoy some of the deeper convos we have. You're an amazing guy, la lolly did a good job raising you. When I was talking to the others while figuring out LU, I wanted you to play in UU if not me. The reason is simple: you're good at this game. Definitely the most unnoticed players on the site considering your abilities. JUST ONE GALATINA: Such a good teammate, always up for anything, whether it be building, testing, laddering or just calling and talking. Im really sad about your record and that is because I know you're definitely better than what a stupid number shows... but I know your time will come, literally no doubts. Besides that, you're one of my closest friends and you know how much I love you. One thing I never told you is that my favorite thing about you is that I never feel like you're judging me. I could literally say anything and you'd understand and focus on how to help me. This is a very rare quality, never change. Also special shoutouts to bussdown bettyana.. quando ci facciamo una pasto ad uno stellato comunque??

Kebab mlml: Ladder calls with you and niko at late night while he tries to suggest stupid plays to tilt you have been the funniest part of this whole tour for me, together with you playing ace attorney and almost losing the tutorial. Besides that, you did spectacularly well this tour with some underrated mons.. goat. Can't wait for olt kebby

Kibo: BIRBO. I wanna start with saying that even though things between us haven't been the best in the past, I never hated you... just thought you were annoying (still do). Jokes aside, thanks for spending hours fixing my laptop LMAO it made my life a lot easier. Also thanks for helping me with spreads in pools. AFUERAAAAA

Laroxyl: thanks for playing UU in pools. I know it may have looked like I didn't appreciate your performance, and im sorry if it did because I sometimes am too rough on how people play, but you did great especially considering you had to pick the tier up with short notice, so thank you for making it so I could play OU

LittleBigPlanet2: You've been part of team italy for a bit now and we never really had personal interactions besides calling with others. Just wanted to say that I have a lot of respect for you, specifically as a builder. I like how thoughtful your teams are and all of them have their unique touch... which is what I try to do with my builds as well. You're pretty much one of the few people whose building I rate highly. Big thanks for helping with teams across all tour and for helping me finalize stuff the night before my game, you gave me the last piece I was missing to be completely happy about my team. Also really present this tour, was a lot of fun to call during ladder sessions or during games.

Pais: Greetings. This tour hasn't been the best for you, both in terms of record and overall morale, and I think i've been one of the reasons for it. Just wanted to apologize again, even though we're good now, because sometimes my jokes can be a little too harsh, hope you didn't take it personally. Regarding your record, don't worry about it because im sure you will bounce back, you're more than capable of doing it.

Raiza: Very underrated player imo, just like HMNIP (but one is lucky and the other isn't). You worked hard this tour even though you didn't want to focus on this very much, which isn't something everyone would do.

Santu: Insane performance this wcop and stour, some people might say frontman level performance. I remember when we started playing pokemon competitively we were both very young and lots of people used to joke on it too, crazy to think how far we've come. Also really happy to have solved some of the problems we had in the past. Just like empo it was a relief knowing you still had to play, you delivered every time.

StepC: we didn't interact much, but huge thanks for trying to help here and there, especially in UU during pools.

Tricking: trekking.. seeing you get lucked by emforbes filled me with joy its not even possible to explain in words...

Was sad about your tiebreak game, it felt like you felt the pressure and didn't play as you are capable of, but happy I could deliver and being the one that carries for once

Niko: I did these s/os in alphabetical order but while typing I decided to put you last. This is because you were the most important for me this wcop. You showed me a lot of support after pools and after I lost in quarters. I think the reason I was able to bounce back this tour was because I could feel the support and trust from everyone but especially you. Calling and building/fixing teams with you was also some of the best moments I had this tour so thank you for that, love you fam <3

Also thanks to everyone who was in the server and supported us from the start, you know who you are.
