yo
i'm super new here and just been lurking looking at DPP ubers and OU for ideas for a team.
my friends are doing a challenge where we have a few weeks to play our respective gen iv game and get together a team for a 6v6 battle on battle revolution.
rules are:
- only 1 legendary per team
- no mythicals
- no double team/minimize
- every held item must be unique (e.g. no 2 holding leftovers, etc.)
- possibly only 1 poke asleep/frozen at a time
besides that everything is fair game i think, provided you can acquire it. mystery gifts allowed, and trading between each other is allowed too.
any ideas for a really strong team? I'm playing Pokemon Diamond. friends are playing plat, hg and ss
sorry if this isn't the best place to post this i'm a bit overwhelmed by the structure of everything on here and haven't really been active on forums before.
okay so my thoughts are:
1) Stealth Rocks
2) What are these guys going to have? They aren't beating Red so or going that far into Kanto so they'll pick the easier Box art legendary to get, the one they can get from the Kimono Girls. maaaybe Kyogre/Groudon, but that will be too much for them. They'll include their starter on the team, which will either be Typhlosion or Feraligatr, and Typhlosion is more likely. They won't want to double up on types very much if at all
They'll also be using some of Togekiss, Gliscor, Scizor, Gengar, Weavile, Gyarados, Ttar, Heracross. I put them in order of likelihood that they'll be used
Platinum guy is a little bit harder to pick. I'm going Garchomp and Chimchar off rip, then one of Gallade/Lucario, maybe Bronzong, Togekiss, Roserade. They're going to do something similar to Cynthia's team because that's what their point of reference will be. For Legendary, I'd say either Heatran or Giratina. Scizor, Gliscor, Weavile, Gyarados are also possibilities.
3. What will their weaknesses be: They will have 4 weaknesses:
A. Stall: They won't have the patience to handle it if you run some defensive team
B. Moveset knowledge: They won't know when you're going to boom or when you're going to have weird SE coverage, they will play against you as though you're going to use a move that's the same type as your Pokemon
C. Trapping: no rules against trapping means you can eliminate threats using Dugtrio and Wobbuffet. Give Dug CB. If you get a chance, they're not going to know about destiny bond wobbuffet
D. Setting up: If you can get Set Up on them it's over. Their teams won't be built to handle a real threat.
BONUS: SET UP STEALTH ROCKS
So they will hate it if you play stall. They want something FUN.
So here's a gameplan:
1. Set up Stealth Rocks
2. Lure out the counters to your Set-Up Sweeper
3. Trap the counter with Dug or Wobbuffer. If you have to sacrifice something to make it happen then so be it.
4. Bring out your set-up sweeper and set up
5. SWEEP
The point of strategy games is to control what your opponent does: Using No Guard Machamp with Dynamic Punch or Clefable will be annoying for them. You can also do Baton Pass strats if you want to sweep with something that's too fragile or too slow. Sleep and Self Destruct are your friends. Breloom is your friend because he can Spore things for you.
Okay, so now let's talk about teambuilding in a more serious way.
1. Pick a Pokemon available in Diamond that has high offensive potential: it needs a varied moveset, and enough bulk to stand priority moves and hazards. This will be your sweeper
2. Finish the list I described in Section 2. Find the Pokemon that are the largest threats to your sweeper. They are the Counter. If they are faster or can set up as well, they need to be slowed down or eliminated. If they are slow and/or bulky, they will need to be chipped before you bring your sweeper out.
3. Figure out how to accomplish that:
Example: In Gen 3, I want to sweep with Aerodactyl. Aero's Counter is Swampert. Early in the game, I bring out Tyranitar, which Swampert also counters. Swampert comes out to deal with Tyranitar, and succeeds, but loses a lot of health in the process. Now Swampert can no longer check Aerodactyl later in the game.
So basically, bring in something else the Counter will want to come in against. Then damage it, and should that fail, use Wobbuffet or Dugtrio to finish it off. I would not use a Pursuit trapper here as your opponent will likely not understand the threat the trapper poses.
4. Add a defensive Piece: I'm going Clefairy first of all.
5. Add interference. have a pokemon that can trick an item that locks your opponent into a move. Use Breloom for spore. Make sure you establish Hazards: I'd suggest Stealth Rocks and 1 LAYER of poison spikes.
Okay I'm really tired now, but you get the idea. If you want to talk particulars I can but I've been writing this for ages. But if you want to beat your friends at something you have to be good at it. Also keep in mind I've literally never played Gen 4 OU at all. I only play Gen 3. but I've seen some Gen 4 online.
