- Ditto is uniquely able to punish teams using Restricted Pokemon that threaten opposing species of themselves, and it often serves as a third Restricted Pokemon. Common threats such as Calyrex-S, Zamazenta-C, Miraidon, and Lunala all use STAB moves that hit themselves for super effective damage, making Ditto extremely effective against them.
- Additionally, Ditto can copy the boosts that Calyrex-S and Zamazenta-C get from their respective abilities, deterring a full sweep or even setup in the case of Nasty Plot Calyrex-S. In particular, since Zamazenta-C gets a Defense boost from Dauntless Shield, Ditto copies that boost then activates its own Dauntless Shield, allowing it to hit Zamazenta-C harder.
- Ditto can have unique case-by-case applications when transforming into support Pokemon such as Incineroar and Amoonguss, but Ditto is often best used to copy the opponent's Restricted Pokemon.
- Focus Sash guarantees that Ditto survives an attack if it loses the Speed tie with whatever it has transformed into, ensuring that Ditto can operate around the mandatory Speed tie while maintaining the flexibility to use other moves the foe grants it, unlike Choice Scarf. Focus Sash also helps Ditto work around its low HP, transforming into frailer Pokemon, and has general defensive utility against the powerful attacks of Regulation I.
- Tera Ghost is generally useful to keep Ditto's Focus Sash intact against Fake Out and helps immensely against Zamazenta-C, allowing it to avoid Body Press altogether if Ditto copies it. Tera Ghost can also provide a boost to Astral Barrage if Ditto copies Calyrex-S.
Teambuilding
=========
- Being mindful of which slots Ditto can come in on and switching accordingly is key, as Imposter will transform Ditto into the Pokemon directly across from it. Forcing Ditto to copy a disadvantageous, usually support-oriented, Pokemon is a great way for opponents to deal with the threat.
- Maintaining Focus Sash can be important to work around Ditto's low HP stat. Priority moves such as Fake Out, Thunderclap from Raging Bolt, and Sucker Punch from Chien-Pao are especially threatening for Ditto, since these moves will either threaten to break its Focus Sash or pick it off outright.
- Pokemon that resist their STAB moves, such as Landorus and Calyrex-I, can hamper Ditto's effectiveness when transforming into them. Rillaboom in particular can tank its own moves, set Grassy Terrain to hamper a potential Miraidon partner, and can threaten to break Ditto's Focus Sash with both Fake Out and Grassy Glide.
- Urshifu-R can cut through Focus Sash with Surging Strikes, depending somewhat on what Ditto transformed into, and can pick off a weakened Ditto with Aqua Jet. Choice Scarf Urshifu-R is also an excellent check to Ditto as Calyrex-S, which could otherwise sweep entire teams with stolen boosts.
- Galarian Weezing turns off Imposter completely, which effectively forces Ditto out of the match. Toxic Spikes and Poison Gas can also easily break its Focus Sash and bring it into KO range, especially if it is forced to remain as Ditto.
- Ditto cannot transform into Terastallized Terapagos and Ogerpon-H. This uniquely helps Terapagos and Ogerpon-H leverage their boosts against Ditto teams that would otherwise try to turn them against themselves.
- Thunder Wave Grimmsnarl is a standout speed control Pokemon that can help Ditto avoid Speed ties, which are important in the cases of Calyrex-S and Zamazenta-C. It can also apply Reflect and Light Screen to help transformed Ditto survive attacks from Restricted Pokemon, which is especially helpful given its low HP.
- Incineroar and Miraidon can help pivot Ditto into advantageous transformations with U-turn or Parting Shot and Volt Switch, respectively.
- Calyrex-I particularly has a hard time against Calyrex-S and Zamazenta-C, especially if they are paired together, so it appreciates Ditto being able to check one or both of them. Calyrex-I also threatens Rillaboom and Landorus, which Ditto struggles against.
