[SET]
Physically Defensive (Tangrowth) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 244 HP / 252 Def / 12 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Focus Blast
- Sleep Powder/Stun Spore
[SET COMMENTS]
Sporting good physical bulk and the Regenerator ability, Tangrowth can act as a great check to a lot of physical attackers like Urshifu-R, Landorus-T and Great Tusk which struggle to deal significant damage to it and get chipped via Rocky Helmet. Giga Drain is the chosen STAB move, as it helps Tangrowth stay healthy. Tangrowth can be a great utility Pokemon with moves such as Knock Off that cripples its foes by removing their items like Heavy Duty Boots from Zapdos and Moltres. Focus Blast can aid against Kingambit and Melmetal, as well as killing Heatran in a pinch. Sleep Powder can be a great emergency button to momentarily shut down Pokemon. It can also be used to predict an incoming Tangrowth counter such as Charizard-Mega-Y, Heatran or Slowking-Galar. Stun Spore is also a viable choice, as it can completely hamper their offensive capabilities by crippling their speed.
With its superior bulk and endless recovery via its ability, Tangrowth can be a crucial piece in balance and even bulky offense teams. Tangrowth can take on popular Ground-types like Iron Treads and Great Tusk, paving the way for teammates like Raging Bolt, who can act as a great ressist to Fire-types. Tangrowth has a good matchup against bulky Water-types like Alomomola and Slowbro, which can be very helpful for Urshifu-R. It also has the distinctive role of being great at checking Ogerpon-Wellspring due to its typing and bulk. This can be beneficial to a variety of Pokemon such as Gliscor, Ting Lu and Alomomola. Ting Lu and Gliscor are also able to take on Zapdos for it. Its special bulk is very lacking, and it can barely survive any special hit even from full health. Special walls like Slowking-Galar and Toxapex can form great defensive cores alongside it with Tangrowth helping them out against Ground-types. Garchomp and Moltres are also great teammates, as they can deal with Pokemon that annoy Tangrowth like Volcarona, Charizard-Mega-Y and Gholdengo.
