Media General Music Discussion Thread

I am really looking forward to attending Shinedown's "Dance Kid Dance" tour. I have always wanted to see them perform live.

3 of my favorite albums imma rate. My favorite doesn't mean the best albums (except for the forever story that's a top 3 hip hop album ever and I would make the argument for #1)

The Forever Story by JID
My favorite album ever full stop and frankly it's not even close. This shit is way too good that his new album is a potential album of the year and I still expected better because of just how damn good this was.
Galaxy: 9.5/10 great opener
Raydar: 11/10 The flow switches do things to me
Dance Now: 11/10 lyricism is insane
Crack Sandwich: 11/10 storytelling is phenomenal
Can't Punk Me: 8.5/10 just hits hard
Surround Sound: 11/10 the song everyone knows and that last verse is incredible
Kody Blu 31: 9/10 nice little song but not JID's strong suit
Bruddanem: 11/10 lyricism and storytelling
Sistanem: 9.5/10 perfect follow up for Bruddanem
Can't Make U Change: 9/10 It's a generic good song that also kinda hurts
Stars: 9/10 flows go crazy
Just In Time: 8.5/10 considering the features this is the only letdown on the album
Money: 10/10 storytelling and it just works despite being very non-songlike at times
Better Days: 9.5/10 Kody Blu done better
Lauder Too: 9.5/10 flows go stupid
2007: 9/10 Nice way to close the album out
Album Score: my only 10/10 album

i think you think too much of me by Eden
Kinda weird compared to what most people listen to but it's a really fucking good album. It's certainly one of those that grows on you the more you listen to it. He produces his own songs and the production always slaps. Eden's best work so far imo and I'm super excited for his new album in 3 days especially since the single he's released so far is a banger.
sex: 9/10 nice little song about hooking up and catching feeling but being too scared to admit it
drugs: 9.5/10 I can't say on here what my normal descriptor for this song is but if u dm me on discord (qbking3 on discord) I can tell u it
and: doesn't count/10 transition song
rock + roll: 11/10 my favorite song to sing along to
Fumes: 9.5/10 :bat: WOAH OH OH IF ALL WE HAVE IS TIME THEN WE'LL BE ALRIGHT
XO: 9/10 hits hard after a breakup
Circles: 10/10 top tier production
Album Score: 9.5/10

Burnout by Boywithuke
Smaller than his 2 previous albums but I find myself playing it more than the others. I wasn't a fan at first but like i think you think too much of me, it grows on you. His writing on this album is distinctly better than his previous work which makes me optimistic for the future.
Can You Feel It?: 9/10 the single released before the album and it's really good
Burn: 9/10 this feels like the real album intro, it should have been first on the tracklist
Ghost: 9/10 this feels like it continues down the path of the last two falling into chaos in his head
Gaslight: 9.5/10 speaking of chaos in his head, this is where it reaches it's peak before going back down on the next song
Stranger: 11/10 Some of the best songwriting I've heard. Puts everything on the pop charts to shame
Backseat: 9/10 the beat switch is amazing and does a good job of calming the song after the fast start
Coffee: 10/10 just because it's so unintentionally hilarious (realistic 8.5/10)
Paper Planes: 9/10 hard carried by the last verse but I like it so much it goes up here
Petrichor: 8/10 boring but it fits on the album
Pitfall: 10/10 I didn't realize how well written this was until making this post
Corduroy: 8/10 definitely the darkest song on the album but the back half carries enough
Love Lost: 8.5 I think this song is the least boywithuke like song on the album and I like it a good bit
Easier: 6/10 Kinda lousy writing and the music isn't good enough to keep it up. Kinda a stain on the album but it's near the end at least
Change: 8/10 Nice little album closer it fits well and it feels like he's putting his trauma to rest

What'd you think of God Does Like Ugly? I personally liked it more than Forever Story and its my second favorite of this year

Shoot nvm I may be a bit stupid

I think it's a contender for rap album of the year and so far is my #1. That being said, my expectations were entirely unreasonable so it was a bit of a letdown but that's just an entirely unfair assessment of the album because I'm comparing it to The Forever Story. GDLU has a lot of really high highs but a few songs that were just good. Says a lot about how good JID is that "just good" is a downside.

My JID album rating is now
Forever Story
(huge gap here)
God Does Like Ugly
DiCaprio 2
The Never Story

I personally have Let God Sort Em Out by Clipse as my number 1 this year, just because I'm like the biggest Pusha T fan out there. But GDLU is honestly pretty close

I think it took a bit to get started since there were some really weak ones in the beginning, but I think its been a good rap year so far, especially starting in July.

I may need to give Forever Story a full relisten though to get a fair comparison, its been a bit since I've revisited it fully.
