TV & Films Recommendations for the week of August 3rd to August 9th
Movies
#Saburo
Film: Polar (2019)
Genre: Action, Crime, Thriller
IMDb Synopsis: A retiring assassin suddenly finds himself on the receiving end of a hit, contracted by none other than his own employer seeking to cash in on the pensions of aging employees.
#Soft Flex
Film: Mortal Kombat (1995)
Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Description: A handful of fighters are roped into a martial arts tournament on a foreign island where they'll take on all manner of demonic and supernatural opponents in a competition that will decide the fate of their world.
With the trailer for the sequel to the reboot dropping recently, I think it's time we all go back to a simpler time in cinema this week where casual masterpieces like this took over their fandoms organically thanks to passionate (and INFORMED/FAMILIAR) filmmakers whose top priority was making a fun movie, and not pleasing sponsors. This is arguably still the best video game movie adaptation to date, so if you still haven't seen it, I challenge you to watch it and disagree - Do you accept... or yield?
@ The Benz Mafia
Film: Strange Brew (1983)
Genre: Comedy, Crime
IMDb Synopsis: Canada's most famous hosers, Bob and Doug McKenzie, get jobs at the Elsinore Brewery, only to learn that something is rotten with the state of it.
+yackback
Film: Eddington
Genre: Neo-Western, Drama, Comedy
Description: Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar, Beau is Afraid) brings his brand of uncomfortable watches to a story set in May 2020. Amidst COVID-19, a mask-denying sheriff faces off against the incumbent mayor in a heated election.
Television
%Apple
Show: Here We Go (2020-)
Genre: Comedy
IMDb Synopsis: The Jessops navigate everyday family (mis)fortunes - from new jobs to kidnapping dogs. Acclaimed comedy with Tom Basden, Jim Howick, Alison Steadman and Katherine Parkinson.
Apple Note: Genuinely one of the funniest sitcoms this side of the 2020s. Absurd, yet reflective take on everyday family life. Chaotic and wonderfully shot in the perspective of their teenage son filming everything to document life for his film-studies course. Brilliantly done!
%ParkerMayCry
Show: Shoresy
Genre: Comedy, Sport
IMDb Synopsis: Sees the foul-mouthed, chirp-serving, mother-loving fan favorite character, Shoresy, join a senior AAA hockey team in Sudbury on a quest to never lose again.
Parker's Point: Ted Lasso who?
