Film:
They Live (1988)
Genre: Action, Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller
IMDb Synopsis: They influence our decisions without us knowing it. They numb our senses without us feeling it. They control our lives without us realizing it. They live.

Saburo's Note: Roddy Piper, the first WWE wrestler to really make it big in acting absolutely nails the lead role here. The message of this movie is still relevant today, despite the pacing and weirdness throughout the film. Plus, that iconic line, “I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I’m all out of bubblegum!” is just hilarious and unforgettable.

Champions
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Sport
Description: Woody Harrelson begrudgingly coaches a special needs basketball team as part of mandatory community service following his ejection from a position in a minor league and soon finds himself growing attached to his new group of athletes.

I guess I must have been in a lighthearted sports movie mood lately because they're the films I've seen in my latest binges that I've enjoyed the most. This one allowed several individuals to make their acting debuts, which is also pretty cool as it's a well-written film that everyone on the cast can be proud of. Highly recommend!

Genre: Comedy, Romance, Sci-Fi
Description: Two guests at a destination wedding in Palm Springs find themselves trapped in a time loop, constantly reliving the day of the reception while forming a bond with each other over time, despite varying degrees of urgency regarding their shared dilemma.

A very cool setting for an atypical romcom, with the best elements being the supernatural one(s). I was pleasantly caught off guard when I began the film not knowing its core concept (spoilers for you I guess though, whoops).

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
Description: After loads of generic superhero slop since Endgame, as well as some legitimately good superhero films that were seemingly abandoned by Marvel/Disney despite fan appreciation, we finally get an MCU film that can get this never-ending project back on track! Thunderbolts* works as a standalone superhero film, as well as one that breaks the typical script structure of others in the genre, as well as a meaningful extension of the MCU. With the trailer for the sequel to the reboot dropping recently, I think it's time we all go back to a simpler time in cinema this week where casual masterpieces like this took over their fandoms organically thanks to passionate (and INFORMED/FAMILIAR) filmmakers whose top priority was making a fun movie, and not pleasing sponsors.
