Welcome to the 3rd edition of the keys ORASPL Ubers Rankings™! I do this every year for ORASPL since a lot of the managers aren’t super plugged in to Ubers, so I figured I’d once again share my recommendations for Ubers players if any managers are interested. Keep in mind that I will only be ranking people who I know well enough and explicitly signed up to play Ubers, and as always this is just for entertainment/information purposes and is purely based on my opinion, so if this offends anyone then get better. As always, I will not be ranking myself (although everyone knows I'm ass anyway and wouldn't make the list). Without futher ado, lets get into the tiers:
Tier 1 (Top of the Pool)
The Strap - ORAS Ubers Cup champion 2 years ago and someone who has massively improved in the tier in recent years, I think he will definitely be towards the top of the list when it comes to records this year. Most people know him from other Ubers gens or even other tiers but he can definitely hold his own and achieve a great record in this tier. Doesn't build much so thats a knock on him compared to some others who might be below but playing-wise he has a higher ceiling so that's why he gets the slight nod here at #1. Should expect a top end record conducive to the expected price tag.
skimmythegod - For some reason he's someone that always goes under the radar and ends up being super cheap. Despite that, he consistently performs in terms of results and has quietly put up some really impressive ORAS tour records in the past couple years (with a finals run in the ORAS invitational and a 5-1 record in a recent UPL), so any manager who is smart enough to purchase skimmy will be very happy with how he does in this tournament. He is quite self sufficient and can handle his own prep as well which is a nice bonus. Buy with confidence and watch as he piles up wins.
Tier 2 (Top End Starter)
squinn - Someone I rate extremely highly and has a very good chance of always ending up with the best record. Extremely high playing ceiling and also very self sufficient with his builds and preparation. The only reason he’s not in Tier 1 is because he left for a while and only recently has come back to playing in tours, but other than that I would trust him against anyone in this tier. Buy him expecting a very strong top half of the pool record with a chance of getting something even better.
TrueNora - Someone who rarely plays ORAS tours but when he last did he cooked the ORASPL Ubers pool (7-1 last ORASPL). Someone I’ve tested with extensively and have very high regard for his skill and performances in general. As long as he has access to good teams he will do an amazing job and undoubtedly return on whatever investment you make on him. Expect a strong record with a chance of repeating what happened last year.
orch - My ORAS Underground teammate, orch was extremely helpful in helping me prep and if you’re looking for someone who will churn out teams for himself and make sure your Ubers slot is always on top of its game in terms of teams and preparation then this is your guy. He will bring the most ungodly and insane teams but he will still come out victorious and put together a strong showing. Expect a solid record overall albeit sometimes there might be some week to week inconsistencies depending on how crazy his teams get.
Tier 3 (Below Average Starter)
Ainzcrad - Very solid Ubers player that doesn’t get to play ORAS in tours very much. I’m not super familiar with his ORAS but I have faith in him as a player enough to call a solid showing in this tour and he definitely deserves a spot as a starter and should give you an average record with a chance of more banking on that gameplay upside (maybe a Nora type season from last year?).
Splendid Silver Star - A newcomer who had some solid tour performances in recent times (including winning Ubers Classic this year and making ORAS Cup finals), I liked most of what I saw from HNHY/SSS, should once again give you competent play for not much in terms of price. I really did not like his tiebreak game vs MZ in Underground at all but I think that one is more the outlier rather than the norm. I expect him to give you an average to slightly below average record but he could surprise as he already has done countless times in recent tours and had some really strong showings.
Charmriah - Another less known and more recent name that has popped up in ORAS lately, Charm has had some good showings and recently made some waves in tours like UPL and Underground, giving me some of my tougher games in that latter tour. I think sometimes he tries to counterteam a bit too much for my liking but he should still be able to pull out a solid record and give you some stability in that Ubers slot, especially for the cheaper price tag.
Tier 4 (Bottom End Starter/Higher End Sub)
Lasen - Can be very hit or miss, in some tournaments he ends up doing very well and in others he ends up 0-7 so it's harder to predict a record here. However, he still has access to very solid teams and when he's on his game he can beat most people, so he still earns a spot in this pool based on what he does when he's at his best. Buy him expecting a good result but keep in mind that the experiences week to week might be very inconsistent.
Remnonc - My dark horse for this tournament. After coming off of an insane UPL performance where he ended up topping his pool, I could really see Remnonc showing up and just killing it this tour. I don’t have much to go off of on his ORAS since I haven’t really seen him play it but I think he could really outperform this spot and his price tag and give you a top end record.
Taka - Had a rough showing in Underground but I rate him as a player overall and his issues might be moreso in the teams he’s been using rather than the gameplay itself. I think Taka could really be unlocked by having someone else on the team who could help or as a 2nd Ubers guy behind someone else. High playing ceiling but lacks the experience/knowledge in the tier so he needs some help in that department (maybe a good buy for a manager who has previous Ubers experience idk).
Tier 5 (On the Starter/Sub Bubble)
Corvikafka
Terracotta
Anyone not included in the list either did not sign up for Ubers or I just am not familiar enough with their ORAS play to give my own personal assessment on their abilities.
