Monotype Rising Sets

Welcome to the fifth edition of the Monotype Rising Sets that aims to unveil the future of Monotype. You have been using an unknown set for a long time or have just thought about a new way of using a Pokémon? Come sharing your findings with the community!

This event will be run in the form of a contest. You will have 3 weeks to submit ONE set of your choosing for whichever Pokémon, before a poll is launched in the Monotype room to determine the winning set.

/!\ Please note that based on the results of the second survey launched, some changes will be applied for this edition onwards. To make them easier to spot, they will be put in Red. /!\

Rules:
  • Only one post per person is allowed.
  • Both the Pokémon and the set you want to feature are up to you.
  • A set is valid if and only if it does not exist in the Monotype SV SmogDex.
  • Item/Move-swap sets are not allowed, unless they change fundamentally the way the Pokémon is used.
  • You may import your set from your PS! teambuilder or write it down.
  • Your set proposition must include the following elements: set, description, potential teammates, and either replays or damage calculations.
  • Replays and damage calculations must showcase the set's uniqueness, so choose them wisely.
  • Please convey the uniqueness of your set while avoiding emphatic language ("It's the greatest set ever!")
  • Do not react to other submitted sets in your post, focus on yours.
Hereunder you will find the accepted format for submissions as well as an example of accepted and rejected sets.

Name of the set + Pokémon name + (Type) (ex: "Choice Specs Dragapult (Dragon)")

(you may import the set directly from your PS! teambuilder)

Pokemon @ Item
Ability:
EVs:
x Nature
- move 1
- move 2
- move 3
- move 4

Set Description

Describe what your set is achieving, which niche does it fill? Why is it interesting in the current metagame?

Teammates

Describe who would be the ideal teammates to surround it with which set.

Replays OR Damage calculations (doing both is accepted)

1. xxx
2. xxx
3. xxx

They should be commented and help you to make your point.

Barraskewda @ Choice Band
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Liquidation
- Flip Turn
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab

Changing one coverage move by another does not change the way the set is used, it is still Choice Band Barraskewda inside.
Barraskewda @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Muscle Band
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Liquidation
- Flip Turn
- Close Combat
- Psychic Fangs

By swapping Choice Band with HdB or Muscle Band, the way the pokémon is used drastically changes. Now Barraskewda acts as an Offensive Pivot, which comes with its own perks. Changing the moveset is not mandatory, but it does not mean the moveset should be lazily copy/pasted from an existing set. Your moveset should always be backed up with arguments.

Rewards:
  • ^ rank on Monotype room for a month
  • The winning set will be featured in the Monotype room
  • Addition of the set in the SmogDex

If you feel the heart of a builder, come sharing your best craft with the community!

Deadline for set submission is August 28th @ 11:59pm GMT-5

Specs give Bolt more immediate power while also allowing us to use volt switch to pivot.
The speed evs let us outspeed most gliscor, bulky ghold, and defensive arch.

For teammates we obviously want arch+hoodra for walls and I was using boots dnite, scarf latias, and specs pult but those three could be changed if you want.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Raging Bolt Thunderclap vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Iron Valiant: 295-348 (102 - 120.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Raging Bolt Thunderclap vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Meowscarada: 262-309 (89.4 - 105.4%) guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock this is after type change from protean
I like these two Thunderclap calcs

Glide Spam Ogerpon Heartflame (Grass):
Ogerpon-Hearthflame (F) @ Hearthflame Mask
Ability: Mold Breaker
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Grassy Glide
- Ivy Cudgel
- Horn Leech

:ogerpon:
With the availability of Terrain Extender in SV Monotype, Grassy Glide spam emerges as a potent strategy, enabling Ogerpon forms to leverage a powerful priority move to break through challenging matchups like Dragon and Poison. Ogerpon-Hearthflame, in particular, boasts formidable ability and damage output and can opt for an Adamant nature to secure key KOs / 2HKOs against notable threats.

Teammate:
:rillaboom: :terrain extender:
1) Rillaboom with Terrain Extender enables this strategy consistently, packing Taunt to shut down entry hazard setter like Araquanid & Skarmory and U-turn to send out Ogerpon and their teammate easily.

:abomasnow:
2) Abomasnow is also a great partner due to its valuable Aurora Veil, which lets Ogerpon has plentiful of chances to setup.

Calcs:

+2 252+ Atk Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon-Hearthflame Grassy Glide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Dragapult in Grassy Terrain: 184-217 (58 - 68.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

+2 252+ Atk Hearthflame Mask Mold Breaker Ogerpon-Hearthflame Grassy Glide vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Latios in Grassy Terrain: 174-205 (57.8 - 68.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

+2 252+ Atk Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon-Hearthflame Grassy Glide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Sneasler in Grassy Terrain: 220-259 (73 - 86%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

+2 252+ Atk Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon-Hearthflame Grassy Glide vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Excadrill in Grassy Terrain: 438-516 (121.3 - 142.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Specially Defensive Incin (Dark)
Incineroar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 212 SpD / 48 Spe
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Flare Blitz
- Will-O-Wisp
- Parting Shot

Evs can be changed, just copy/pasted the NU set. Essentially, Parting shot is a nice pivot move to help stuff like Goltres and Weavile setup (along with intim + wisp), and knock + blitz is a hard check to Volcarona, in conjunction with Sableye's Encore. Faces some competition with Muk-Alola, but Fire typing gives you a Ice resist which can be nice defensively, also checks Wisp Volcarona effectively unlike Muk.

Weakness Policy Latias (Dragon)
Latias (F) @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Recover
- Calm Mind
- Stored Power
- Reflect / Thunderbolt / Ice Beam / Draco Meteor

Was bored and trying to spice up dragon a bit and decided to try make a funny set that can clean unexpectedly. Enter Weakness Policy Latias. This thing is so good into so many matchups. A lot of people expect it to be scarfed or a set of a similar nature, which allows you to somewhat freely get a calm mind, and then either click reflect or calm mind again, eat a strong hit, recover with your new weakness policy boost, and then clean with stored power. It's an effective cleaner that can sweep through full teams surprisingly easy. Obviously, while using reflect one of it's biggest issues is that it is almost useless into dark teams, and vs teams that will have a dark type you need to remove the dark type to clean. That being said, since this set is never seen, or at least I haven't seen anyone else using anything similar, people are less likely to preserve their dark type to check it. However, you can use tbolt, ice beam or draco meteor over reflect in order to hit dark types/have more coverage and allow you to muscle past would be checks after a few calm minds/weakness policy boost, since even without reflect or boosts latias is still naturally very bulky, allowing it to take advantage of weakness policy via living hits.

This basically beats multiple types on its own, including electric, water, fighting, fire and flying, and with good support can do really well into multiple other types. Glaring weakness is that its not that useful into dark, especially with reflect, however its a fun set that certainly has its usages and can effectively beat quite a few teams on its own.

Amoonguss @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD or 248 HP / 104 Def / 156 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Clear Smog
- Sludge Bomb / Leaf Storm
- Leaf Storm / Foul Play

[SET COMMENTS]
Assault Vest Amoonguss provides a unique utility role for special walls on Poison as it can comfortably take on most Water-, Electric-, and Ground-types special attackers such as Primarina, Raging Bolt, and Landorus without much problem. Giga Drain of course remains the main offensive tool putting pressure onto the likes of Keldeo, Rotom-W, and Landorus. Clear Smog enables Amoonguss to easily prevent Primarina and Raging Bolt from using it as setup food. For its next two options Amoonguss is fairly flexible for what it can run, Sludge Bomb can spread Poison and helps to pressure Flying-types like Zapdos and Enamorus as they come in to tank Giga Drain. Leaf Storm offers up incredible burst damage managing to obtain guaranteed OHKOs on the likes of Urshifu-R and offensive Great Tusk. Foul Play makes use of Amoonguss still solid physical bulk still enabling it to check DDance Dragapult and Iron Boulder locked into Earthquake. Hex can make use of Poison's Status spreading capabilities giving Amoonguss a new level of offense, notably making it a surprisingly good threat in the mirror into foes like Pecharunt and Galarian Slowking, especially the later who will often eat a Wisp early to get Future Sight pressure online. The EV Spreads provide two different levels of bulk. Spread A goes all in on Specially defensive Amoonguss maximizing its bulk giving it the best shot possible into special offensive threats, notably giving it a 31.6% chance to survive two Zapdos Hurricanes, while spread B enables it to comfortably handle Great Tusk after Stealth Rock and still check Ogerpon-W with Clear Smog into Sludge Bomb (Spread A can also kind of do that, but its a lot shakier).

[Teammates]
Traditional Amoonguss teammates will have a similar value here as they normally. That being said, Pecharunt does appreciate AV Amoonguss as a more comfortable water check compared to Pex while running Clear Smog + Sludge Bomb may make Alolan Muk's flex slot option more enticing to play with (this is where you run something over Pjab). You could also opt to go double AV running vest Amoonguss and Galarian Slowking which could enable an Overqwil > Alolan Muk if you're so inclined.

Stomping Tantrum with a Sassy Nature if Amoonguss's cards are played right can allow the Mushroom to check Iron Moth and Heatran in a pinch along with putting solid pressure onto the likes of Empoleon, Hisuian Goodra, doubly do if you go for the double power hit, and preventing it from being too passive in the Poison Mirror as well by OHKOing the corrosion spreaders. Also its valuable for dealing with Raging bolt as you won't need to use Clear Smog once Air Balloon is popped allowing you to keep up the pressure without resetting Draco Meteor to full power (forcing them to instead Calm Mind back up)
Spore can be used as a surprise tool as if Amoonguss takes a weak off Knock Off from the likes of Alolan Muk, Sableye, and the aforementioned Empoleon and Hisuian Goodra, it can re enable Amoonguss's most powerful utility option and can come completely out of nowhere as most will not expect it. This is less of a commitment that one would think as the only essential moves in AV Amoonguss in my opinion are just Giga Drain and Clear Smog.
