Staraptor lands itself a niche in NU thanks to its high Attack and Speed stats, which can be further boosted with either Choice Band or Choice Scarf. Choice Band paired with Reckless lets Staraptor do major damage towalls like Galarian Slowbro and Overqwil while putting pressure on resistant foes such as Klefki and Bronzong. On the other hand, Choice Scarf lets it outpace threats like Kilowattrel, Flamigo, and Inteleon. Staraptor fits on many balance teams thanks to its ability to handle common defensive cores of Amoonguss, Vaporeon, and Wo-Chien. Despite its strengths, Staraptor is outclassed by Flamigo in almost every aspect as a Flying-type Choice Scarf user, as Flamigo isn't weak to Stealth Rock and has a more useful secondary typing in Fighting, which allows it to hit Steel-types much more effectively. Staraptor is held back by its weakness to Stealth Rock, which, alongside recoil from its STAB moves, hurts its longevity greatly. It is also held back by its struggles to break commonplace defensive Pokemon such as Galarian Slowbro, Avalugg, Bellibolt, and Duraludon thanks to their natural bulk. Staraptor's competition as a Choice Scarf user is fierce, as Munkidori and Flamigo both provide a similar Speed tier while not needing to use recoil inflicting moves, which allows them to last longer in games more effectively and still do large amounts of damage. There are other naturally fast, offensive Flying-types like Kilowattrel and Tornadus that Staraptor competes with, and both of them have much better coverage options, which further discredits using Staraptor.

**Electric-types**: Staraptor is threatened by fast Electric-types like Kilowattrel and Raikou as they can outspeed and threaten to KO it with their STAB moves, however Staraptor can surprise KO these if it is using Choice Scarf. Bellibolt is also threatening as it punishes Staraptor's moves with Rocky Helmet chip, and the risk of paralysis from Static. None of these Pokemon can switch into Staraptor's Choice Band attacks without being 2HKO'd at best, however.

**Stealth Rock**: Staraptor's reliance on Choice items makes it threatened by Stealth Rock. Furthermore, Staraptor consistently switching in and out can make this worse, since it greatly limits Staraptor's longevity and its ability to repeatedly enter the field.

**Physical Walls**: Physical walls like Galarian Slowbro, Rhyperior and Avalugg can all take hits from Staraptor and threaten it back with their own attacks, while the former also threatens it with status. Due to their raw power, these walls do not enjoy switching into Staraptor's attacks directly though.

**Steel-types**: Steel-types like Klefki, Duraludon, Bronzong and Copperajah resist Staraptor's STAB attacks, so they can freely switch into its attacks and set up hazards or hit back against Staraptor with their own attacks. Staraptor can use Close Combat though, which threatens all the aforementioned Steel-types with heavy damage.

**Revenge Killers**: One of Staraptor's largest threats come from faster Pokemon that are able to revenge kill it, such as Inteleon, Kilowatterel and Alolan Ninetails- however none of these can switch into Staraptor's attacks safely. Faster Choice Scarf users like Infernape and Munkidori can threaten and KO Staraptor once it gets worn down, but they also cannot risk switching into Staraptor's attacks. Staraptor can also be picked off by strong priority users like Choice Banded Paldean Tauros-W, Toxicroak and Arcanine.

This is not a common choice, as Staraptor wants to hit as fast and hard as possible- it does not necessarily need to last in a drawn out game. (Not necessary) Another choice, albeit an uncommon one, is Final Gambit. It's high speed tier, amplified by a Choice Scarf with Its high speed tier, makes Staraptor an excellent user of Final Gambit, pair allowing it to grab surprise KOs and doing solid damage against foes like Flygon and Bronzong trade positively, letting benefitting it's teammates at the cost of losing Staraptor itself.

Offensive threats to Staraptor vary, depending on which Choice Item it is holding- Choice Band sets are forced to switch out by any faster Electric-types, or any faster Pokemon which can hit Staraptor hard, aswell as Choice Scarf users such as Toxtricity and Flamigo who threaten a KO, needing little to no chip damage. Choice Scarf Staraptor has much less Offensive counterplay- as it is only checked by other Choice Scarf users which are faster than it, but defensive counterplay is easier- with switching into Staraptor being less prediction based as it's attacks are much weaker. Very few Pokemon are both faster than Staraptor and able to take a hit from it- which means it can force damage on defensive Pokemon who try to pivot to the aforementioned offensive counterplay.

I don't find that this adequately compares Staraptor to Flamigo. Flamigo basically shuts Staraptor out of the metagame because it is better in every facet just about other than speed. I think you're overselling it a LOT here by calling it "solid" or saying it fits a lot on teams because it really doesn't.

Furthermore, it also enjoys being partnered with hazard removal like Tsareena, Avalugg I really want to say remove the Avalugg mention because that guy is so absent from the meta, but meh it technically applies here. though, I would make an extra sentence to talk about Tsareena being a particularly nice partner. Knock Off vs the Steel-types is pretty major and Altaria to maximise Staraptor's longevity. Staraptor is also useful for providing safe entry for set up sweepers such as Toxicroak, Drednaw and Toxtricity, allowing them to take advantage of threats such as Vaporeon and Overqwil.

Tera Fighting also increases the power of Close Combat, and provides some defensive value by giving Staraptor a resistance to Stealth Rock and to Dark-type moves from foes and having a resistance to Dark-types like Scrafty and Incineroar.

Staraptor alone can struggle to break physically defensive Pokemon such as Bellibolt, Duraludon, (AC) and Slowbro-galar Galarian Slowbro. Partners such as Chandelure, Flygon, (AC) and Toxtricity can effectively break through them and appreciate Staraptor's U-turn support. It Staraptor also benefits from other fast pivots like Inteleon, Kilowattrel Kilowatterel, (AC) and Munkidori by chipping down their checks such as Incineroar and Bronzong and allowing them to potentially KO these checks them. Slower pivots like Incineroar, Bellibolt, (AC) and Swampert give Staraptor it free entry to capitalise capitalize on switch-ins such as Heracross, Wo-Chien, (AC) and Amoonguss Amoongus. Furthermore, Staraptor also enjoys being partnered with entry hazard removal Pokemon like Tsareena, Avalugg, (AC) and Altaria to maximise maximize its longevity. Tsareena inparticular in particular is a useful partner, as its Knock Off is especially helpful for Staraptor when it comes to breaking break Steel-types.

A Choice Scarf, (AC) along with it's Staraptor's high Speed tier, (comma) makes it Staraptor an excellent user of Final Gambit, allowing it to grab surprise KOs and deal solid damage to foes like Flygon and Bronzong and (remove comma) letting its teammates benefit at the cost of losing Staraptor itself.

Checks and Counters

**Electric-types**: Staraptor is threatened by fast Electric-types like Kilowattrel and Raikou, (AC) as they can outspeed and threaten to KO it with their STAB moves; (semicolon) however, (AC) Staraptor can surprise KO these them if it is using Choice Scarf. Bellibolt is also threatening, (comma) as it punishes Staraptor's moves with Rocky Helmet chip damage (remove comma) and the risk of paralysis from Static. None of these Pokemon can switch into Staraptor's Choice Band attacks without being 2HKO'd 2HKOed at best, however.

**Stealth Rock**: Staraptor's reliance on Choice items makes it threatened by Stealth Rock. Furthermore, Staraptor consistently switching in and out can make this worse, since it Stealth Rock greatly limits Staraptor's longevity and its ability to repeatedly enter the field.

**Physical Walls**: Physical walls like Galarian Slowbro, Rhyperior, (AC) and Avalugg can all take hits from Staraptor and threaten it back with their own attacks, while and the former also threatens it with status. Due to their Staraptor's raw power, these walls do not enjoy switching into Staraptor's its attacks directly though.

**Steel-types**: Steel-types like Klefki, Duraludon, Bronzong, (AC) and Copperajah resist Staraptor's STAB attacks, so they can freely switch into its attacks them and either set up entry hazards or hit back against Staraptor with their own attacks. Staraptor can use Close Combat though, which threatens all the aforementioned Steel-types with heavy damage.

**Revenge Killers**: One of Staraptor's largest threats come comes from faster Pokemon that are able to revenge kill it, such as Inteleon, Kilowatterel Kilowattrel, (AC) and Alolan Ninetails- Ninetales; (semicolon) however, (AC) none of these can switch into Staraptor's attacks safely. Faster Choice Scarf users like Infernape and Munkidori can threaten and KO Staraptor once it gets worn down, but they also cannot risk switching into Staraptor's its attacks. Staraptor can also be picked off by strong priority users like Choice Band Banded Paldean Tauros-W, Toxicroak, (AC) and Arcanine.
