Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
- Flygon stood out for me, as it compresses the role of a ground and electric resist in hazstack. And see guys? It's kinda like Slither Wing! It has eq, First Impression, U-Turn, and 35 less attack points.
- A knocker that deals with ches, Umbreon, and mamo in a pinch. Tera steel is for flying and mamo's Ice Shard.
- Puts less strain on gapdos by checking garde, as well as arma and hippo. Grass Knot nails volc and improves the teams mu against water/ground mons.
- My gastro looks funny. Handles setup sweepers and sets up Spikes. Ice Punch means it doesn't get walled by flying mons, but it can be replaced with Toxic to put timers on setup sweepers and gapdos.
- Special wall, phazer, knocker, you get the drill.
- Spinblocker and checks cm psychic sweepers. Should be used late game when Flygon, gapdos, and hazards worn down the opposing team. Tera Dark for Sucker Punch, psychic, and Prankster twaves.
This team is centered around torterra, who I believe is an underrated threat in the tier, as its ability to wreck teams after a single shell smash boost is par to none. I combined it with bellibolt, who takes advantage of gapdos which torterra commonly struggles with and torterra can take advantage of the grounds and steels that bellibolt can sometimes struggle with. Jirachi is the rocker of the team, and can lock in targets with encore. Gapdos is the speed control, does gapdos things. Cyclizar is the removal of the team, and hersculegion is the big breaker of the team.
Voting for Week 13 is live. Please nominate ONE team before the deadline of Friday, August 15th at 9am GMT +0. Gligar Stall by shreyashhy CB Flygon HazStack BO by Tubular Torterra Pivot Spam BO by Heatranator
My vote goes to Tubular. Think its a really good blend bewteen offense and defense.
Surprised that we haven't done this one in the history of RU teambuilding comp, but this week we have Wo-Chien, the (unfortunately) worst Ruinious legendary of the quartet. With its Grass-Dark typing, Wo-Chien finds its way as a high tier Pokemon in RU, despite the fact it is ranked PU currently. With Leech Seed+Knock Off, Wo-Chien is able to generate massive amounts of progress against most targets, and while its typing has a bunch of weaknesses, including a 4x U-turn weakness, it can still take on a lot of Pokemon such as Slowbro, Basculegion-F and Krookodile.
With tera in the picture, Wo-Chien can flip its weaknesses and become an incredibly annoying Pokemon to take down. Wo-Chien can either go with a Protect set or a Rest-talk set, with both of these having upsides. Protect can allow Wo-Chien to fit an extra move to cripple switchins even more, while Rest-Talk can keep itself healthy over the course of the game. Wo-Chien has a surprisingly deep movepool, with options such as Stun Spore, Poison Powder, Body Press, Taunt, Ruination, Foul Play and others finding its way into its moveset. How will you utilise the Wo-Chizzy?
Submissions will be open until Friday August 22th at 9am GMT+0.
- Weak to volturn, bp zone, and hazards. Tenta had spin, but I couldn't find openings during testing.
- Boots spam and helmet on tenta to address the above problems. Knock Off also means tenta is less passive against by ghost and steel.
- I experimented with guss over tenta, because guss and bro form a regen core that covers their weaknesses, and guss can punish all pivot moves. However, that made me rely on Future Sight (which the opponent can play around) and gapdos to check ches.
- Realizing bro worsened my defensive mu against bp zone, I replaced bro with heatom. The Entei mu is still a little rough, but tenta can take a hit from cb stone edge and use Knock Off.
Chien and tenta is an oddball core, but it works. Tenta absorbs toxic, resists fighting, bug, and fairy, and checks ches. Its 297 speed also means it pivots out of threats like jolly gyara, mamo, and adamant krook. Chien checks ground and electric for tenta while also wearing down walls it struggles against, such as bliss and bro. Heatom is the physical wall, and umber is the special wall that improves the team's longetivity.
The team's defensive backbone would wear down opponents by removing boots and spreading status, with gapdos breaking faster throughout the game. Gar would then clean up the game.
I wanted to use a Wo-chien team that utilized more offensive moves to deal with particular targets while also wanting to have offensive pressure be consistent amongst team members.
Leaf Storm & Pollen Puff are able to take care of dark type targets and the Water/Ground Brothers in Gastrodon and Quagsire. Tera ghost is inserted here to be able to wall Gapdos to punish CC. Wo-Chien is also a good candidate to disguise zoroark with as it gives Zoro an opportunity to lead in to switch items with the opponent.
Oricorio-Sensu while not primarily concerned with hazards does have defog as an option if it is really needed. Sensu mixed with Wo-Chien can find many opportunities to set up such as when Wo-Chien is walling Noiverns Dracos and Super fangs. it may need to tera to secure some Ko's even after a QD or two such as Hippowdon. Sensu is also a good disguise for zoroark as it will make opponents hesistate trying to strike it with fighting type attacks such as gapdos or Chesnaught. it also has a fairly decent time dealing with armarouge as hurricane can be used as a way to secure a KO without activating weakness policy.
Zoroark unlike its Hisuian counterpart has a harder time finding partners to pair with for illusions as it is vulnerable to more types. but zoroark has the advantage for having partners that have foul play and or U-Turn that can help make it difficult for opponents to discern if it really is zoroark or not. Trick is really good onto leads and potential set up mons and walls such as Reuniclus and Necrozma. While it is not the strongest zoroark set, the assistance it provides is neccesary to throw opponents off their game to make worthwhile progress.
Armarouge does what armarouge does best, Clicking endure to get its weakness policy activated, Armarouge on this team has a slightly better matchup against bisharp as Wo-Chien can set leech seed on Bisharp to force bisharp to either attack or switch out as armarouge tries to fish for an endure While leech seed is sapping away at its health. in conjuction with sensu, armarouge can see itself overwhelming the competition as it was being worn down from the rest of the team + sensu's attempt at setting up QD
Slowbro helps add overall longevity to the team as well as being able to apply damage in different forms, thunder wave is appreciated in a team that would like more opportunities to either set up or have more turns to leech health off of opponents. Future Sight ensures slowbro does not need to stay too long in the field to help keep its regen health maxed out.
Mamoswine is a Physically offensive pokemon that is capable of running freeze-dry but it is needed to take on the water/ground types of RU as its suprise factor mixed with other teammates being able to strike them puts much pressure on them to not commit to the hazard stacking or making switch-ins more difficult in situations where mamoswine would otherwise be walled. Ice shard still acts a reliable form of late game clean up even if it is not able to actively participate in the fight.
~Hope y'all enjoy my first submission for the teambuilding competition c:
