Resource SV Monotype Sample Teams [May 2025]

Think there should be a Steel sample with Hisuian Goodra, since I think it’s the best “6th mon” outside of the standard 5 which are on every Steel team. Obviously on Steel you should be using Gholdengo, Archaludon, Heatran, Iron Treads, and Skarmory, but I think H-Goodra offers so much as a sixth teammate on this standard Steel mold.

Built and used this team to get to 1800 elo on multiple accounts, and get some good winstreaks going 25-0 on ladder, showing its success. Its very easy to use and is a good team for newer players, and showcases what I believe to be the best 6 mons on steel at the moment. See screenshots for proof.

Team Description:
This team follows the Steel skeleton of Skarmory + Heatran + Iron Treads + Gholdengo + Archaludon, with Hisuian Goodra added as a flexible sixth slot. Skarmory sets Spikes, walls physical attackers, and phazes. Heatran provides Stealth Rock, Fire coverage, and a way to punish threats like Volcarona. Iron Treads keeps hazards under control with Rapid Spin while also checking Grounds with Air Balloon. Gholdengo pressures Defoggers and walls, doubling as a Trick user to cripple defensive cores. Archaludon provides speed control with a second Scarf and offensive pressure against bulky Waters and Dragons. Having a second scarfer in Archaludon allows Gholdengo to more freely click trick to cripple a defensive threat that would otherwise stop the team in its tracks. Hisuian Goodra rounds out the team with its phenomenal special bulk, Dragon Tail to punish setup, and Knock Off utility, covering matchups like Fire, Electric, and opposing Dragons while giving Steel a more resilient defensive backbone.

:archaludon: Speed control, revenge killer, Thunder Wave hinders some fast threats like Spectrier and Darkrai, Flash Cannon bops Valiant and Flutter, Thunderbolt hits Skarm and Moltres for big damage.

:Gholdengo: The standard annoying and utilitarian set that helps muscle past Torn, Corviknight, Goodra, Latios, etc. Prevents all hazard removal which helps Skarm and Heatran hazard stack. Pair that with the para + hex spam and Gholdengo is having a field day while avoiding hazard damage itself with Boots. Less hazard damage means less Recovers used which leads to applying more pressure with Twave + dual STAB moves.

:iron-treads: Offensive utility set with strong STAB EQ, item removal with Knock Off, good coverage for Gliscor, Lando, etc with Ice Spinner, and hazard removal and potential speed control with Rapid Spin, pseudo-Ground immunity with Balloon.

:Heatran: Special wall and pseudo-Ground immunity. Rocks setter and trapper set that can remove Toxapex with Magma Storm + EPower, Power Gem to bop Articuno, Moltres, and Volcarona. Also helps pop opposing Heatran Balloons.

:skarmory: Physical wall, Spikes stacker, passive damage with Rocky Helmet, phazing with Whirlwind and spreading hazard damage. Body Press to hit Dark types and opposing Steel types.

:Goodra-hisui: The special wall that’s always in the way. Opposing Archaludon trying to swap in? Dragon Tail. Gliscor trying to switching for Poison Heal ticks? Dragon Tail. Volcarona trying to set up and sweep? Knock Off + Dragon Tail. Helps Skarm spread the hazard damage too with Dragon Tail. Knock Off for removing Torn’s AV, a multitude of Boots getting hit with Knock Off, removing Arch’s Lefties. Goodra rounds out the Steel core nicely with its utility and scouting with Protect and preservation with Lefties.

:latias: Speed control and inhibitor with Trick. Strong dual STAB and HWish support for Raging Bolt mainly to close out in the late game. Can also help stall the HWish with proper play to bring a key teammate back to full.

:dragapult: Fast wall breaking and coverage spam. Helps offensively check Flutter Mane and Gholdengo.

:Archaludon: Physical wall and Rocks setter. Pseudo-sweeper that can snowball with Stamina + Body Press. Flash Cannon for Fairies and Ice types. Twave to inhibit opposing walls and provide its own speed control. Lefties to help keep it on the field more.

:raging-bolt: Setup sweeper set that has priority and Balloon to help against Lando/Gliscor, Water/Ground types, and dodge Spikes damage, pseudo-Ground immunity. Bolt helps secure the Water and Flying matchups and take out faster threats with Thunderclap.

:latios: The other wallbreaker that pairs with Raging Bolt to pressure the Flying core with BoltBeam coverage and muscle past walls with Luster Purge and its 50% change to lower SpD by one stage.

Hi it's me again, with an updated version of the

Lilligant-Hisui Grass
:amoonguss::brambleghast::lilligant-hisui::meowscarada::ogerpon-hearthflame::sinistcha:
:amoonguss: Main defensive wall, it's meant to sponge the damages from threats like Dragapult, Flutter Mane or Iron Valiant and spread sleep via Spore to help the team. This spread sacrifices physically defensive bulk to take 2 Shadow Ball from Choice Specs Flutter Mane. Otherwise very classic set, with Sludge Bomb to hit Fairy-types and spread poison, Foul Play to punish physical attackers and Synthesis to keep Amoonguss healthy throughout the game.

:brambleghast: Entry hazard control of the team, it removes Stealth Rock and Spikes from the opponent's team and can set its own Spikes to chip types like Dragon, Dark, Water or Steel, while also being able to block Rapid Spin. It's also the team's answer to Tornadus-Therian and Zapdos thanks to Wind Rider, though you must pay attention to Knock Off from Tornadus-Therian. It can be very threatening against Ghost and Psy-types so don't underestimate its offensive capacities. Again a pretty classic set, Poltergeist threatens Ghost and Psy-types and also does a great chunk of damages to walls such as Hisuian Goodra or Heatran. Shadow Sneak picks up weakened threats like Dragapult, Flutter Mane, Latios, etc...

:lilligant-hisui: Very threatening setup sweeper that has the ability to destroy many teams. It's very easy to setup thanks to Sleep Powder and after once Victory Dance it outspeeds and OHKOes most of the format. It can shine against team that don't have defensive answers to it such as Gholdengo, Volcarona and Ceruledge and revenge killers such as Choice Scarf Meowscarada, Greninja, Ditto, and Dragonite. Ice Spinner completes Close Combat's offensive coverage, hitting super effectively Flying, Dragon or Ground-types.

:meowscarada: The one and only Choice Scarf Meowscarada, Grass's best Speed control. The team's main revenge killer, outspeeding Dragapult, Flutter Mane, Choice Scarf Roaring Moon, Greninja, etc... It can trade offensively against types that the team can't check defensively such as Dark, Ghost, Normal or Dragon. Knock Off hits Ghost-types and removes items from defensive Pokemons. Triple Axel is the key of victory in the mirror match'up, and also helps against Dragon, Flying and Normal. Play Rough destroys Fighting and Dark. U-turn allows Meowscarada's teammates to take advantage of its checks.

:ogerpon-hearthflame: The best Ogerpon form. Its sheer power helps the team break bulky types such as Steel, Flying, Poison and Water and his Ice, Fire and Bug neutrality helps a lot against these types, mostly against Ice and Bug that have real troubles checking it. Swords Dance helps Ogerpon breaking bulky cores such as Poison and Water. Power Whip is chosen as the Grass STAB for its ability to OHKO Toxapex. Rock Tomb helps against Flying and Fire types, mainly Tornadus-Therian, Moltres and Volcarona.

:sinistcha: Last but not least, Sinistcha is the team's second defensive Pokemon, checking physical threats such as Sneasler, Excadrill, Arcanine-Hisui, Great Tusk, etc... While also acting as a great win condition against Water, Ground or Rock. This spread creeps Pokemon who would want to outspeed 252 Speed EVs Adamant Azumarill. Substitute allows Sinistcha to setup on Toxapex or Clodsire without the fear of being poisoned, and also prevents Goodra-Hisui to phaze it with Dragon Tail once it's burned.

I managed to get into the top 50 with this team, despite always missing my moves.

[NORMAL] BULKY OFFENSE
:sv/ditto: :sv/ursaluna: :sv/blissey: :sv/Indeedee: :sv/zoroark-hisui: :sv/terapagos-terastal:
https://pokepast.es/97e5ca5d46313725

Hello everyone,
I would like to present a sample Monotype Normal-type team designed for players interested in exploring the Gen 9 Monotype format. This team is particularly well-suited for beginners, as it is capable of handling many lower-ladder opponents with consistent play. Moreover, it has the potential to climb into higher ladder ranks with proper strategy and execution.

Ditto:

Ditto is an excellent choice for a Normal-type team due to its ability to transform into the opponent's Pokémon and effectively revenge kill with the aid of a Choice Scarf, which often allows it to outspeed threats. It stands out as one of the most reliable revenge killers in the current format.

Ursaluna:

Ursaluna serves as a powerhouse on this team. Once opposing special attackers have been dealt with, Ursaluna can safely begin setting up with Bulk Up. Combined with Leftovers and Drain Punch, it gains a form of consistent recovery. While the use of Bulk Up over Swords Dance and Leftovers instead of the more common Flame Orb may seem unconventional, this variation allows Ursaluna to become a durable and threatening presence. Bulk Up boosts its physical defense and offense, enabling it to absorb physical hits more effectively and sustain itself in prolonged battles.

Blissey

Blissey remains one of the most reliable special walls in the game. Equipped with Heavy-Duty Boots, it avoids chip damage from entry hazards, allowing it to switch in consistently. With maximum investment in HP and Defense, Blissey is even capable of withstanding some physical attacks. Its primary role is to absorb special attacks, spread status using Thunder Wave, and provide team support by setting up Stealth Rock. Blissey also offers consistent chip damage through Seismic Toss and reliable recovery with Soft-Boiled, keeping it healthy throughout prolonged battles.

Indeedee (Male)

This may seem like an unconventional choice, but Indeedee is an incredibly effective Normal-type in the current metagame. When equipped with a Choice Scarf, it outspeeds a wide range of threats. Thanks to its ability to set up Psychic Terrain, its Expanding Force becomes a powerful STAB move that hits even some resistances hard. Indeedee plays a crucial role in checking Fighting-types, which are otherwise threatening to Normal-type teams. It also carries Dazzling Gleam for coverage against Dark-types, and can utilize Trick to disrupt opposing setup Pokémon. Additionally, Healing Wish gives it strong utility by restoring a weakened teammate to full health. Indeedee’s versatility makes it an indispensable asset on this team.

Zoroark-Hisui

Zoroark-Hisui is a unique and valuable addition to any Normal-type team due to its Normal/Ghost dual typing. This combination grants it an immunity to Fighting-type moves, a major asset for a Normal team’s defensive core. Offensively, it shines with Choice Specs, allowing it to deal significant damage with its wide array of coverage moves. A Choice Scarf set is also viable for a speed control role. Its signature ability, Illusion, enables it to disguise itself as a teammate, often catching opponents off guard and gaining momentum. With Flamethrower, it can eliminate Steel-types that would otherwise pose a threat to Normal-types, further increasing its offensive value.

Terapagos (Terastal Form)

Terapagos serves as the team’s dedicated hazard remover and a formidable special attacker. Its signature move, Tera Starstorm, takes full advantage of its high Special Attack stat, dishing out massive damage. Terapagos also has excellent coverage options like Flamethrower and Ice Beam, the latter being especially effective against Dragon-types. Its ability, Tera Shell, provides a significant defensive advantage: when Terapagos is at full HP, all incoming damage is reduced as if it resists every move, making it much harder to KO. This combination of bulk, power, and utility makes it a key member of the team.

Overall, this Normal-type Monotype team offers a strong balance of offense, defense, and utility, making it well-suited for both new and experienced players. With solid answers to common threats, strong synergy, and effective roles for each member, it has the potential to perform consistently on the Gen 9 Monotype ladder. I hope this team serves as a useful starting point or inspiration for your own builds. Feedback and suggestions are welcome!

Hello everyone,
I’m back with another sample team. This time, I would like to present a mono-Fighting-type team designed for the Generation 9 Monotype format. This team is both enjoyable and straightforward to use, making it particularly beginner friendly. Additionally, it has the potential to secure a solid number of wins in a relatively short period of time, and it can help you achieve a respectable ladder elo as well.

Sneasler
In the current metagame, Sneasler stands out as one of the most effective Pokémon available. With access to Swords Dance, it is capable of sweeping entire teams after a single setup, thanks to its solid base Attack stat. It holds an Air Balloon, granting temporary immunity to Ground-type moves—beneficial both for Sneasler itself and for the team as a whole. Once the balloon is broken, Sneasler's Unburden ability is activated, doubling its Speed and allowing it to outspeed even Choice Scarf users. Additionally, its secondary Poison typing enables it to effectively check Fairy-types. Its signature move, Dire Claw, has a 50% chance to inflict a status condition—either burn, sleep, poison, or paralysis—making it an invaluable tool in high-pressure situations.

Urshifu (Rapid Strike Style)
Much like Sneasler, Urshifu (Rapid Strike) is among the most powerful and consistent options in the current metagame. When equipped with a Choice Scarf, it provides immediate Speed control, allowing it to outspeed a wide range of threats. One of the primary reasons Urshifu is so effective is due to its signature ability, Unseen Fist, which allows it to bypass protective moves such as Protect and Substitute. This makes it highly resistant to common stalling strategies and various defensive gimmicks.

Its signature move, Surging Strikes, hits three times in a single turn, with each hit guaranteed to land a critical strike. This not only ensures consistent damage output but also bypasses stat boosts to Defense. In addition to Surging Strikes, Urshifu boasts excellent offensive coverage with moves like Close Combat, U-turn, and Ice Spinner. For players who prefer access to priority, Ice Spinner can be replaced with Aqua Jet, providing utility against faster threats and low-health targets.

Iron Valiant
Iron Valiant is a powerful and versatile Pokémon in its own right, capable of dishing out significant damage thanks to its high base Attack and Special Attack stats. This offensive versatility allows it to effectively run a mixed set, enabling it to break through both physical and special walls. When holding an Expert Belt, Iron Valiant can inflict considerable damage on opponents it hits for super effective damage, further enhancing its role as a wallbreaker.

It also boasts excellent coverage options, with moves like Thunderbolt providing an answer to Flying-types, often allowing it to secure a knockout in a single hit. Additionally, Iron Valiant’s naturally high Speed allows it to outspeed many threats in the tier. It can capitalize on this speed with Encore, a disruptive utility move that can punish opponents attempting to set up or use non-damaging moves, effectively turning the momentum of a battle in your favor.

Great Tusk
Great Tusk is widely regarded as one of the most reliable hazard removers in the current metagame, while also serving as a physically bulky and offensively potent Pokémon. Its impressive base Attack and natural physical bulk allow it to perform both supportive and offensive roles effectively.

By running Knock Off, Great Tusk can remove crucial items such as Air Balloon from Pokémon like Gholdengo, preventing them from safely switching in and blocking hazard removal with Good as Gold. With maximum HP investment, Great Tusk can comfortably survive a non-boosted Make It Rain from Gholdengo, allowing it to reliably stay on the field and clear hazards when needed.

Scrafty
When using a Bulk Up + Body Press set, Great Tusk becomes a formidable tank, capable of overwhelming even Pokémon that resist Fighting-type moves. Leftovers further enhances its longevity, helping it maintain health throughout longer battles.

While it may initially appear to be an unconventional choice, Scrafty proves to be an invaluable asset on a Fighting-type Monotype team. Its secondary Dark typing is especially useful in Psychic-type matchups, offering crucial defensive support that many other Fighting-types lack.

With the Shed Skin ability, Scrafty has a chance to cure itself of status conditions each turn, making it far less vulnerable to common status-based strategies. When paired with Bulk Up, Scrafty becomes extremely tanky, gradually boosting its physical defenses and Attack to outlast opponents. Knock Off provides essential utility by removing items, while Drain Punch—combined with Leftovers—offers both reliable recovery and offensive pressure.

Scrafty can also run Rest for full recovery, with Shed Skin often allowing it to wake up early, eliminating the typical drawback of sleep turns. Remarkably, it is capable of surviving two high-roll Hydro Pumps from Choice Scarf Greninja and can reliably 2HKO it in return, even without prior setup.

Iron Hands
To round out the team, we have Iron Hands—a powerful and bulky Pokémon that plays a vital role as a special tank. With an Assault Vest and investment in HP and Special Defense, Iron Hands is capable of surviving powerful special attacks, such as a Moonblast from Choice Specs Flutter Mane, and can retaliate with Heavy Slam to secure the KO.

Iron Hands is also effective against Flying-type threats and provides much-needed special bulk for the team. Drain Punch allows it to maintain longevity throughout the match, while Ice Punch gives it strong coverage against common Ground- and Flying-types such as Landorus and Gliscor. Its impressive bulk and offensive pressure make it a reliable and versatile pivot in many matchups.

Here are a few replays : https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2429012127?p2
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2429001133?p2
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2428915847

This mono-Fighting team combines raw power, strong defensive synergy, and effective utility to handle a wide range of threats in the Gen 9 Monotype metagame. From powerful wallbreakers like Sneasler and Urshifu-Rapid-Strike to reliable tanks like Great Tusk and Iron Hands, each member plays a critical role. The team is beginner-friendly yet competitively viable, capable of climbing the ladder with smart play and matchup awareness.

Feel free to test it out, tweak it to your liking, and see how it performs in your own battles. Feedback is always welcome—happy battling!
