TBH Im not sure if Ive ever played Popcorn before so I cant say for sure whether or not this is true. But if I were maf I would probably double down on defending my teammates here. Because when town successfully shoots maf they earn another mislynch, so I think its even more devastating to maf to lose a teammate.

In response to the 2nd bit: I think town should still cast votes here and maybe we could compile our own vote counts. Obviously the gun carrier can shoot whoever they want, but it is super helpful to know where everyone stands.

I may have played popcorn face to face, but I think popcorn wasnt as popular back in the day as it is now

Ah interesting. Like I said, this is my first time playing this setup that I recall so I hadnt really thought about it at all. I just checked my phone and saw Hyhy was chosen and thought "ok", and scrolled down and was surprised to see you thought it was an unusual pick. I guess my stance as scum would be to elect a gunbearer who I think I can pocket to start with and then hope town makes a comedy of errors. Which lets be honest, there probably will be a comedy of errors by town :bloblul:

This approach tends to be the default for anyone coming into the structure because the incentive structure supports the hero shot, but it's of course inherently anti-town to push for a self shot when it limits shots on mafia reads or POE - on that note POEs are very difficult to make coherent given all the above, it's much easier for a mafia member to play a pure town game without consequence and thus slip into the town "core" in the end game.

All town should be first and foremost focused on making their reads on an individual level, assess the motivations, who is making the post and why? What do they gain from it? What are the mindsets in which they are more or less likely to approach? What does the projected emotional state imply about the worlds in which they make that post?

I appreciate the insight! Yeah this is def different than any other mafia I’ve played before (same with the final fantasy one that just happened). I think it’s interesting that you say “who is making the post and why? what do they gain from it?” Because so far (and this is not a personal shot at anyone) I see a lot of what I would call nothingburgers or fluff from people. So based off your post here that makes me think of the opposite of my initial suspicions, where maf members might be trying to distract rather than lay low.

Much to think about…

I don't mind being shot tbh, it's not a good play for town but at least I get a cool gun or something
