After four votes to ban and one abstain, a council vote has seen Melmetal banned from the tier.
For those who stuck around during Metagross's reign of power, Melmetal was really more of the same. Its extreme advantages with both a free item slot (something denied from Mega Metagross) and a naturally gargantuan damage capability (thanks to its Iron Fist ability coupled with Double Iron Bash and a great attack stat allowing it to annihilate things) meant it could realistically do literally anything it wanted. True answers were few and far between, often requiring an unbelievably strong STAB move and/or the ability to cripple it with status or beat it with setup, with Mega Charizards, faster Ursaluna sets and Victini being fairly serviceable answers, though beyond that was fairly bleak and always a guess on set. Melmetal's set diversity was ridiculous, with its ability to run items such as Air Balloon almost completely negating one of its most relevant weaknesses, Assault Vest easily making up for its lacking Special Defense, Custap Berry (if one Double Iron Bash doesnt KO, two almost certainly will), Choice Band letting it delete frail and even some bulky Pokemon that struggle to KO it at its leisure, and other more niche options that only served to add to how asphyxiating its grasp on building and playing was.

This is cool, thanks for postingHello national dex 1v1 community! I recently made a list of all the moves gained by pokemon between gen 7 1v1 and natdex 1v1, for more ease in translating sm 1v1 sets to natdex 1v1. If a pokemon is in gen 7 1v1, the moves learned between sm and national dex are included, and if the pokemon is from gen 8, the moves learned between ss and national dex are included.
This was done by taking the list of moves learned in gen 7 and in national dex, and then comparing the two lists with some python code. If you're curious, here's the code I used:
The code takes input from a text file I paste the /ms7 and /nms text into, and then splits the /ms7 text into a list of strings, and the /nms text into a list of strings, then checks which items belong in the /ms7 list but not in the /nms list. Just in case I checked for moves that were lost between gen 7 and national dex but there were none. The list of moves gained between gen 7 and national dex are then joined together to form a string that I can copy and paste into my google doc.
If there's anything in the code I haven't explained then it's there to fix a specific bug
