Zapdos-Galar, Zarude, and Light Clay have been sent to AAAUUBL!

:pmd/zapdos-galar: When people started playing the tier after the most recent VR drops and losses, it quickly became apparent that Zapdos-Galar was one of the scariest Pokemon in the tier. It forces a frankly infuriating amount of pressure in the builder and can always make progress in play between its powerful, low drawback STABs, and its access to Knock Off, U-Turn. There is nothing that can outright check it - options like Fluffy Diancie or Landorus always need to be healthy to check SoR Banded variants but lose to Magic Guard or Mold Breaker variants long term. Offensive counterplay looks fine until Zapdos-Galar slaps a Scarf on and ruins your breaker. It can run a multitude of items and sets and overall is just not healthy for the tier's development, and so in spite of the relatively small sample size of games, a resounding majority of the council were convinced it was banworthy.

:pmd/zarude: Another insanely strong Pokemon with limited counterplay. Zarude will always contribute to a battle thanks to its access to the powerful STAB Knock Off, Grassy Terrain that it sets - powering up its grass attacks and providing it a strong priority option in Grassy Glide, while also providing passive healing for its team - and U-Turn. Banded sets are the most common, but Zarude can easily run other items like HDB and Life Orb thanks to its access to Swords Dance, Taunt, and other valuable utility moves that ruin most would-be-walls. There is a future in which we may retest Zarude (and any other thing we ban) after the next VR drops but a majority of the council felt that in its current state the meta is not geared to handle the funky monkey.

:light-clay: One thing we almost certainly won't be freeing any time soon is Light Clay. Screens are stupid and have stupid potential in this tier - it does not need more tools.

:pmd/archaludon::pmd/terrakion: Thank you for playing the tier so far! We will continue to keep an eye on everything and hope you enjoy the rest of AAAPL (if you're playing or building in it)!

Is there any reason besides consistency with the other UU OMs that AAA UU isn't done by usage based tiering? The ladder seems to be active enough to be done by usage, and I think that would generally preferable to VR based tiering (as seen with previous iterations of UUbers failing with VR based tiering, but being more stable with usage based tiering). Sorry if this isn't appropriate for this thread, but in doing some research, this question piqued my curiousity.

The UU distinction is based on viability rankings because of some metagames have too little activity to be accurately based on ladder usage. Even AAA is not a large enough sample size to avoid bias from one very successful ladder player. The VR distinction is a relatively arbitrary cut off, but it allows for more objective tiering.

Almost Any Ability UU pvl:
S Tiers
:Raikou: Raikou
-I wouldn't be opposed to seeing it get banned honestly. Hadron tbolt + aura sphere + scald is simply miserable to switch into. cm/volt switch are both very powerful. I don't think the meta is unplayable with Raikou in and stuff like regenvest goodra is yet to see experimentation but this mon is just incredibly hard to deal with and feels on a level higher than all of the other threats.
:Thundurus: Thundurus
-I do not think Thund is banworthy but I could easily see it becoming so in the future. Psea boots pivot is able to consistently force progress because of the lack of good regenvesters and a lot of general switchins hating knock. This set is insanely good and splashable without any real way to punish it. It could definitely be more bannable if another great set (such as mglo physical or smth) starts to take off but I think its a pretty healthy best mon to have.

Exceptional Viability
:Excadrill: Excadrill
-Just the most reliable glue mon in the tier. Can comfortably run any immunity ability, can viably regenvest, I've thought abt unironically running mold breaker.
:Mamoswine: Mamoswine
-The only long term answer to this monster is ee pex. Even it's best answers really hate taking knock/boosted icicle crash. Ice shard is obv very strong priority, its just an enormous threat in any matchup.

High Viability
:Chesnaught: Chesnaught
:Hydreigon: Hydreigon
:Inteleon: Inteleon
:Kommo-o: Kommo-o
-besides all the standard aaa kommo stuff, we were really fond of cheek pouch clang soul/fluffy dd
:Metagross: Metagross
-I ran a lot of ee scarf, agility sword of ruin was a pretty solid wincon, great glue/threat
:Tinkaton: Tinkaton
:Ursaluna-Bloodmoon: Ursaluna-Bloodmoon
-stamina is op, has a ton of viable mixups like storm drain

Viable
:Blastoise: Blastoise
:Chi-Yu: Chi-Yu
:Espeon: Espeon
-psysurge eforce does insane damage ohkoing everything/2hkoing common spd mons, possibly very underrated we didn't find out abt its power until finals.
:Forretress: Forretress
:gliscor: Gliscor
:Haxorus: Haxorus
:Hippowdon: Hippowdon
:Landorus: Landorus
:Landorus-Therian: Landorus-Therian
:Latias: Latias
:Lucario: Lucario
:Milotic: Milotic
:Palafin: Palafin
-sub lefties bulk up is a huge threat, can easily surprise a lot of chesnaughts
:Palossand: Palossand
-Maybe a bit cheesy but it genuinely has a lot of great disruptive tools and spinblocking is a great utility to have since all the spinners can't afford to get around ghost typing.
:Revavroom: Revavroom
-Didn't know about this things power until finals but its honestly insanely scary. EE gets a ton of setup oppurtunities and it hits insanely hard even without a boosting ability. Being a setup sweeper reliant on an 80% accurate move is kinda annoying but it's genuinely very obnoxious to deal with adequately.
:Terrakion: Terrakion
-Sd lorb is a monster set, obv hard to switch into but its a lot easier to deal with in practice than the calcs suggest.
:Toxapex: Toxapex

Subviable
:Archaludon: Archaludon
-I think its honestly incredibly overrated for the amount of usage it got. Yeah theres not really any desoland users that electro shot is thudding into but its defensive uses are just too narrow. It kinda hates having to check every electric, blanked by exca/regenvesters.
:Chansey: Chansey
:Donphan: Donphan
:Fezandipiti: Fezandipiti
:Froslass: Froslass
:Infernape: Infernape
:kilowattrel: Kilowattrel
:Moltres-Galar: Moltres-Galar
:Ogerpon: Ogerpon
:Regieleki: Regieleki
:Rotom-Wash: Rotom-W
-They definitely hit really hard but excas forcing rotoms to be reliant on scarf is a huge blow for viability.
:Slowking-Galar: Slowking-Galar
:Sneasel: Sneasel

Niche
:Altaria: Altaria
-fluffy defog is cute but a lot less so with zarude gone
:Comfey: Comfey
-regenvest is surprisingly decent and being a fairy type is incredibly useful in general. It's stats are pretty terrible though, stuff like inteleon cleanly 2hkos.
:Garganacl: Garganacl
:Glimmora: Glimmora
:Jirachi: Jirachi
:Meloetta: Meloetta
:Talonflame: Talonflame
-Possibly underrating but we never really found a satisfying use for it and the meta in general seems like a huge struggle for talonflame.
:Weezing-Galar: Weezing-Galar
(I would put zarude in viable tier if it was still here btw)

I ended up building in AAA UU (and SV and SS and Ubers) for Zards cuz Osake threatened me to be sober. This without taking into account it was criminal to let pannu cook alone.

Here some teams then:

Finals

- Terrak BO. Quite a good team but that's just InteFezanExcaGlisHydrei core being very solid more than Terrak being good. Team loses hard to Mamo btw but you'll see that often.

- Hsam BO. Not sure about Kommo-o and Infernape tbh. Overall I think Infernape is underestimated cuz Adapta Mixed is extremely scary if you don't run into hard wall like WBB Sinistcha.

- I farmed way too many people with Regen SubCurse Dozo early gen and decided it was time to try it again. Team is very fat and prob not so good cuz I'm not used to build this kind of things. However this one theoretically doesn't lose to Mamo which is rare.

Rain trials. Second team I honestly didn't know what to put as last so I went doggo cuz Steel + Dark resist but whatever.

Elec terrain HO. First team I built in a burst of madness. I took the idea from Atha's Eterrain HO. Mew's coverage is debatable but that's Mew anw. SG MoltG is hateful so you can replace it by SFLO.

I just asked Pannu to pick one rather than chosing for them so if they lost that was their fault hehe. Now I would have taken the HO, rain or fat just so it was impossible for them to be prep to my usual BO teams.
1728932746118.png

Semi-finals

I built that at the beginning of the tour ig but pannu wasn't interested. Restrospectively that's prob the best BO I built. I think this team has everything you want to perform in every type of MU. I hate pannu so much since they almost lost an unlosable MU with this team but still got carried by Exca and Fezan's spreads.

Before

478.png
389.png

A screen HO pannu brought when Zards were already qualified I believe. Torterra is honestly extremely scary being faster than some Scarf and hitting through some Fluffy mons with Bullet Seed and Rock Blast. EE Rev is a fun idea I had cuz setting up on Grounds is massive. Hoopa Prank Dbonb cuz Atha is in love with that.

Ofc I had to build on broken Mamo as well so here it is. Pannu tried to throw that but got carried by hazards + for some reason Blastoise ain't slow but it was calculated trust.

Other teams pannu didn't bring before finals

One of the first team I built but there was Gzap over Hawlucha. In fact, Hawlucha is fine and provides more speed which is good tbh. Gsurge MukA forever.

Wanted to bring back the mon that carried ojr back then, during the first AAAPL. Ogerpon seemed fine with it and then stuff.

S - rank

:excadrill: WA, Levi, WBB are all good and I can see other abilities working on that mon. Just one of the best non-RegenVest Archa checks and tbh that's huge lol. But yeah ofc it's also there cuz Rapid Spin making it a spinner and wincon with SD.

A - rank

:arcanine-hisui: Still putting this here because if you don't have Psea Archa, WBB Ches or Fluffy Kommo-o, Intimi Quaqua, this mon can be quite frightening. Classic MGLO Head Smash + Flare Blitz. Espeed is good to rk weakened things. If you can afford not to run rocks on this, Close Combat can catch Archa, WoW has utility. It could be lower but I still want to respect it by virtue of everything it has. Faster than Mamo, Archa; Quaqua, HSam, etc.
:archaludon: One day it feels broken and the other it looks fine. At the end, I still don't like it. Feels like it can get through checks depending on the last move (Aurasphere for Exca, Sub to prevent pivoting into a rk strat, speed invest against Quaqua, Mamo, etc). The counterplay against this is quite narrow especially considering it has a very good defensive utility for a breaker. Put rocks if you don't know where to put them.
:blastoise: RegenVester that can pivot and spin allowing for a lot of role compression. Unlike Quaqua, it has some bulk and is harder to weaken. Being mono Water is also good to handle Psychic (Crown) or Fairy (Gardevoir, Enam) even though I do agree they are rare. It can also scout physical attackers like Dland Entei.
:chesnaught: Not a hot take but this mon is very good. WBB walls so many things like Entei, Lando, Oger, Quaqua or HK9. It can also check a bit Raikou or Thundu if necessary and depending on their coverage. Body Press + Knock + Spikes is just very good. Flame Body is a b****.
:deoxys-defense: Not a big fan of this mon but well, it can work cuz it has broken Spikes. Intimi / Fluffy are decent. Regen is good but good luck for your defensive core then lol.
:donphan: How can Tusk be bad? Okok I lie that's def not Tusk but come on, Fluffy Donphan does quite a similar job tbh. Great role compression cuz you can put Rapid Spin + rock on this mon as well as Knock Off for utility or Roar for phazing. That's a solid mon imo but people didn't find out. At the beginning of SV AAA we did see some Regen Donphan which is prob a decent set if you can afford to run it in a bulkier team. WA, WBB, Sap Sipper are options but not great imo.
:entei: Tbh this mon isn't even good but just put strain in the builder requiring some sort of Fire immu cuz everything else is going to be overwhelmed without so much trouble.
:fezandipiti: A very good Regenvester provinding something different with a quadruple Figthing resist allowing it to come on powerful CC and poison threat while pivoting. Absorbing Tspikes is good too.
:gliscor: Fluffy Gliscor was very good to me but it seems people didn't bring it much. Put whatever hazards you want but mainly Spikes and Tspikes. Toxic / Knock Off + pivot utility. Who cares about recovery when you can just take some hits, put broken hazards and pivot out? There's no reason to run Lando over this as defensive mon bar the RegenVest set. I can see other abilities working like WBB, WA, Delta Stream or Intimi.
:hydreigon: Prob one of the best if not the best Scarfer tbh. Scarf BoR is very good at revenge killing with a strong DM. Specs can break through RegenVests but Fezan. Don't run NP imo, you don't need that to break and just waste time setting up.
:inteleon: Breaker + good speed control + weather control + pivot. Just a very good mon regarless of WA or Water Regenvesters.
:kilowattrel: Zapdos but fast but almost without the defensive utility. Specs is good to rk and pivot. Boots def lacks power however.
:landorus: Incarnate is prob a decent RegenVest but no utility bar pivoting. Incarnate can also run Dland sets to fuck Archa if it clicked Eshot. After all, EP + Fire Wball is an amazing coverage supported by NP to break. You can do the same with Therian but with a strong EQ to get through RegenVesters. Therian is also good with immu abilities like WA allowing Sub BU/SD to be extremely annoying.
:kommo-o: Well this mon feels weird cuz it doesn't have much utility outside from taking hits and putting rocks but nothing else can do what it does so ig that's a decent mon? Fluffy can take crazy hits (cry against Entei which is AAA UU's Cinderace). I also experimented Gsurge or Psalt cuz why not? Otherwise Intimidate is fine to keep the Fire resist. Offensive sets are fishy imo. Like DD struggles against many things and can be rked by Hydreigon or Mamo while Clangorous Soul is destroyed by Fezan and Melo. Prob you can make it work though.
:mamoswine: This mon is broken cuz if you don't go for an insane hard counter like EE Pex, EE Steel (Jira?) or EE Skel you're just going to lose to it long term cuz the coverage is insane + Icicle Crash/Icicle Spear and EQ bypass Fluffy. Ice Shard is also so damn strong you can't rk with Hydrei, Lando, Thundu, or Kilo which is annoying.
:meloetta: The "best" Regenvester in the sense it can check pretty much every special attackers but Specs Hydrei while being able to pivot. Focus Blast is needed if you can't rk Arch easily.
:ogerpon: Zarude gone? Why is Zarude gone? Did it get banned after no evidence of it being too much? Looks like it. Well, now we have Gsurge Ogerpon. No STAB Knock sucks a bit but hey, Ivy Cudgel ain't contact so it bypass Fluffy! Decent speed in the meta. Bands is good, SD can work.
:quaquaval: Intimi and RegenVest are quite good at compressing roles. MGLO can be a threat like it was a long time ago.
:raikou: Hadron Raikou looks promising considering it has Water and Fighting coverage. I like Scarf utility but I can see Specs and CM working. Felt a bit underexplored tbh. Prob also the best Eterrain teams enabler.
:terrakion: Not a big fan of this mon but, well, it can blow things lol. Prank Pex ain't a counterplay anymore cuz EQ is now boosted by SoR (and Prank Pex sucks). With good pivoting this is prob good even with Fluffy Donphan or Kommo-o around.
:thundurus: MGLO is hella annoying to switch into long term cuz depending on coverage it can break pretty much anything. But it's wrong to think this mon will break all alone and instantly. SFLO can't really break Goodra, Fezan and Melo so I don't find the set so good. Acrobatics BU can be a fun set to try. (for expert: Supercell Slam MGLO gets through Fezan and Melo without needing anything else). I don't believe much in Psea however even though it has some merits and ain't bad at all.
:tinkaton: WBB and EE are both good. You can also run Regen ig but I don't like it much. Typing + rocks that's just great.
:volcanion: MGLO disappeared cuz Manaphy and Pert reign over SV AAA but it was once a major threat. So here you have Blastoise which is annoying but otherwise you do shit. I don't like much Specs Psea/Dland cuz you kill coverage + slow + rock weakness.

B - rank and below

Everything else. Special mentions go to:

:infernape: How do we switch into Adapta mixed? Like, Pex ain't real so... Can be a very scary mon with all it has tbh (pivot, switcheroo, prios, coverage, etc). Mixed Adapta, SD SoR, BoR NP, Band, Specs, Scarf, lead, etc.
:talonflame: Unnerf it by banning Archa.
:weezing-galar: Funny mon tbh. Defog, Tspikes, WoW, Sludge Bomb, many cool tools but funnily you might not want to change its ability lol. Gsurge user?!
:flamigo: Can we stop looking for Gzap replacement?
:garganacl: Surely this isn't bad with some immu.
:greninja: I can see it work over Intel. Like, yeah it def hits less hard but it has Spikes and Tspikes that are cool to fit on a team tbh. Prio is good too.
:goodra: In slower teams it fits well. Knock Dtail Scald broken.
:lucario: Come on MGLO is prob decent and tbh -ate /TC Espeed SD have been underexplored.
:haxorus: Scale Shot bypass Fluffy and Steel and Fairy are rare (Tink blows to EQ after a DD/SD). Can be scary without a real speed control under the form of a faster Scarfer or big Mamo. Maybe you can even try Band Skill Link so you can run First Impression and get a prio?
:samurott-hisui: Good for you guys there's Ches, Kommo-o and Quaqua otherwise this mon goes crazy. Sharpness Air Slash removes those not counters de facto btw.
:hawlucha: Mini-Gzap can't be bad.
:okidogi: EE BU can prob go crazy like it does in OU or did in some SV AAA games. Gunk/Pjab/Knock + Dpunch + BU + Sub/Knock ggwp.
:rotom-wash: My baby. Raikou if it has a powerful Water move. The speed tier isn't great as Scarfer unfort but still decent if you have prio in the back. WoW and Trick are what it has over Raikou and may be worth. Some Regen or defensive ability can work...maybe?
:ursaluna-bloodmoon: Get fished by some Bloodmoon shit.
:iron crown: I wanted to put this higher but people almost didn't bring it? Psurge is prob good. Fishy double dance in HO too. Some immu setup maybe? Specs? RegenVest Futur Sight? Overall this mon feels better than same typing Metagross that cannot really setup. (edit: I figured why people didn't use it!! Then Metagross ok-ish)
:regieleki: Refri is decent but damn, it's so weak.
:palossand: Somehow Hippo but not as passive and with the ability to anti-spin which is huge in hazards stack teams.
:salamence: But what's about Flam Orb Aerilate Facade Mence already?
:sneasel: I agree with this being underlooked cuz that's really lil Weavile.
:staraptor: Gzap but without STAB on CC? Final Gambit tech can be funny to blow something annoying.
:tentacruel: Well, decent Regenvest but really dies to physical moves. Knock + Spin + poison + pivot is very good though.
:toxtricity: Uh Refri LO mixed with Gunk Shot can work ig?
:vaporeon: Water Regen pivot that doesn't need AV to work and can Wishpass then.
:zoroark-hisui: Where are you bro? Mixed sets are prob strong tbh as well as Adapta Polter Band / mixed LO.
HO mons, :torterra:, :revavroom:, :moltres-galar:, :mew:, etc

Btw can AAA council put Slither Wing out of his misery so it can rule over AAA UU smh. Fun meta up to the point it gets developped enough and people will find it boring and start asking for weird unbans or bans while that's how it is. But considering it's AAA UU, it's never happening so we're fine. Atha or O1V7O2X9O will post my SV AAA teams somewhere if they want to. See you in a thousand year.

I found AAAUU to be a very fun idea and concept to theorize and build about, and for a time it was. But I have grown in a different direction than I thought I would at the time, and I find myself currently out of touch with the tier as it is now. In this moment I hereby tender my resignation. I will still continue to support and advocate upon the behalf of UU OMs, but I cannot in good conscience feature myself on this council.

AAA UU please unban moltres, give him a free pass. Anyways I'm excited for AAA UU this November. As much as I like AAA, it is quite centralized (I don't mean like gen 2 snorlax centralized or chansey bh centralized) and having something new and fresh with the same idea sounds awesome, will be playing.

i did a thing, if something is wrong or missing then blame glory (they didn't do any of this i just think they deserve it)

Is AAA uu playable on the ladder or just something that has potential as an OM of the month thing? I need me some more AAA
AAAUU is playable via challenge code but is unfortunately not eligible to be voted into spotlight. It may receive a leader's choice ladder but we had one fairly recently so I wouldn't expect one soon

I am doing this from my phone so I might have missed something, ping me on discord if you do notice something, main post won't be updated immediately.

We lost a lot of meta-defining Pokemon so expect a pretty fresh meta for AAAPL3 (signups will go out soon!). Please bear with us as we screen for obviously broken elements, we hope the metagame ends up being as enjoyable as it was last year.

To the surprise of absolutely no one:
Iron Boulder is unanimously quick banned!

:sv/iron-boulder:

:iron-boulder: Iron Boulder is an unremarkable Pokemon in standard play but in Almost Any Ability it gets access to Sharpness, which boosts slicing attacks by 50%. Boulder only uses slicing attacks - equipped with Mighty Cleave, Psycho Cut, Sacred Sword, Swords Dance and a Life Orb, it is able to absolutely tear through everything in the metagame. Viable "checks" are pretty much limited to Fluffy Hippowdon (does not appreciate Psycho Cut) and Metagross (has to be Levitate to avoid EQ, and really doesn't like taking Sacred). This is only a day one set without experimentation and its already blown away everything we have, so even if there is counterplay yet to be found, council unanimously agrees that Iron Boulder is not healthy for the metagame and should be quick banned!

:hydreigon::slither-wing: No other action will be taken as of yet. Hydreigon is on our watchlist for appearing to be very potent in the metagame, while Slither Wing was voted on but not banned. We will continue to watch these elements and others as AAAPL3 begins!

CAN YOU PLEASE BAN ARCHALUDON IN AAA UU THIS MON IS SO STUPID PLS PLS PLS I WANT TO HAVE A FUN TOURNAMENT
yes

:sv/archaludon: :sv/mamoswine:
ARCHALUDON AND MAMOSWINE ARE NOW BANNED IN AAAUU
BoingKGloryGlalieGoesBoom matteRESULT
ArchaludonBanhas not votedBanBan3-0 BAN
MamoswineAbstainDNBBanBan2-1 BAN
Slither WingBanBanDNBDNB2-2 DNB

:pmd/archaludon:
This has been a controversial Pokémon since the tier's inception. Electro Shot is an incredibly powerful move, and Archaludon has great physical bulk, allowing it to accumulate boosts and quickly spiral out of control with its fantastic typing letting it stay around for a very long time. With an Assault Vest equipped, this Pokémon would consistently trade massive damage into teams ill-equipped to deal with it - even with dedicated counters, Archaludon would still have a ridiculous presence in the game. The tier has lost a lot of great checks to the bridge since it last saw tournament play, and it has finally become too much for the tier to handle.

:pmd/mamoswine:
Mamoswine has no true answers in the metagame. If it finds entry points it will kill something, and in the long term that is decidely not a healthy attribute for a Pokémon to have in such a pivot heavy metagame.

:pmd/slither-wing:
Slither Wing was heavily considered for a ban at this time, but we have decided to give ourselves to judge its impact on the metagame with more defensive slots hopefully freed up by these two depatures above. We will continue to keep a watchful eye on it.

I would also like to announce that crow crumbs is stepping down from council. I greatly thank them for their time on council, they have been absolutely fantastic to have around, and I wish them well.

Tagging dhelmise to implement, thank you so much! Also tagging UT cos i felt like it

Till next time!
