Project National Dex OU: Magic Matchmaking (Round 10: Nidoking)

:sv/sinistcha:
Sinistcha @ Leftovers
Ability: Heatproof
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Matcha Gotcha
- Calm Mind
- Strength Sap
- Shadow Ball

a mon that is massively underrated rn and should be used more. its typing complements mdias quite perfectly, and it is strong in both defenses (more after setup but still decent nontheless). its stabs also help mdia in dealing with water types that dont take much damage from mdias coverage. also, it is good into mdias counters like zamazenta and waterpon.
calcs:
252 Atk Zamazenta Crunch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Sinistcha: 114-136 (32.9 - 39.3%) -- 13.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
-1 252 Atk Wellspring Mask Ogerpon-Wellspring Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Sinistcha: 112-132 (32.3 - 38.1%) -- 96.3% chance to 3HKO (-1 from strength sap)
252 SpA Gholdengo Shadow Ball vs. +1 252 HP / 4 SpD Sinistcha: 216-254 (62.4 - 73.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (+1 from calm mind, and sinistcha can ohko back)
252 SpA Gholdengo Make It Rain vs. +1 252 HP / 4 SpD Sinistcha: 160-189 (46.2 - 54.6%) -- 7.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
-1 172+ Atk Iron Fist Melmetal Double Iron Bash (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Sinistcha: 122-146 (35.2 - 42.1%) -- 96.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Zapdos @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Roost

Funny birb. Switches into Ground and Steel as well as stuff like Zama and Urshifu, spreads para, and offensive sets appreciate rocks being off. This also threatens stuff like Rillaboom and helps to break their shared checks like Galarian Slowking and Gliscor. Standard defensive sets are fine too since they can pivot and spread para better and mdia lets it maybe drop defog but offensive is funnier.

Its way past the deadline but uh yeah

SAY HELLO TO THE NEW HOST OF NATIONAL DEX OU MAGIC MATCHMAKING AND THE REVIVAL OF THIS THREAD!!!

As my first act, I will do the voting stage on Mega Diancie, and since the last time any of this post was touched was back in late April of this year, I'll allow people who brought up sets after the aforementioned 5 day deadline in on the voting!
partially because if I didn't, there would be one entry and that's boring.
SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO...
OPTION A:
:sv/alomomola:
Alomomola @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Flip Turn
- Scald
- Knock Off
- Mirror Coat
av alomomola my goat
alo with av and mixed defenses can switch into literally everything that threatens mdia offensively. it can pop the air baloon on plot :gholdengo: and chip it enough for mdia to kill with ep/mystical, it can mirror coat special threats, knock items, slow pivot into mdia for it to do its thing and break, switch into steel and water moves that threaten a kill (and a partner like :corviknight: switches into the grass & ground moves neutral on alo) and is great role compression, for it being a slow regen pivot that can switch into something, knock, slow pivot out, and also get a kill if special attackers get too comfortable.

252+ SpA :raging_bolt: Thunderbolt vs. 4 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Alomomola: 254-302 (53.8 - 63.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (alomomola just mirror coats and it dies)
+2 252 SpA :gholdengo: Corkscrew Crash (190 BP) vs. 4 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Alomomola: 240-282 (50.8 - 59.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
248+ Atk Choice Band Iron Fist :melmetal: Double Iron Bash (2 hits) vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Alomomola: 188-222 (39.8 - 47%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs :tapu_lele: Psyshock vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Alomomola in Psychic Terrain: 232-274 (49.1 - 58%) -- 97.7% chance to 2HKO (honestly this one just shows off why i love this pokemon)
yes it's me but I'm not voting

REPLY WITH WHO YOU'RE VOTING FOR!!! Voting ends September 2nd.

With 2/3 votes, djkslaf wins this (way too long) cycle!
Onto the next round, with a Pokemon I personally love seeing used...

ROUND 10: NIDOKING

:sv/nidoking:

Nidoking (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Flamethrower
- Ice Beam

Nidoking's unique niche that has allowed it to stand the test of time since its debut in generation one, RBY, is being a vicious wallbreaker with Sheer Force and Life Orb, taking advantage of the stacking multipliers and its colorful coverage (for some unknown reason RBY mons have like half the moves in the game) to tear balance structures apart. Its base 85 Special Attack stat seems quite pitiful at first glance, compared to its sub-optimal but usable base 102 Attack stat, however with its ability Sheer Force granting it a 30% boost to its moves with secondary effects at the cost of removing them, on top on the 30% boost from Life Orb, which boosts your power at the cost of 10% of your HP, have allowed Nidoking to continue to be a strong presence that can eviscerate unprepared teams. How will you support this offensive powerhouse, and how will you be able to bring out its full potential?

:sv/samurott-hisui:
Samurott-Hisui @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sharpness
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ceaseless Edge
- Razor Shell / Aqua Cutter
- Flip Turn
- Sucker Punch / Sacred Sword

Hamurott complements Ground/Poison fairly well, as its Electric and U-turn weakness gets covered, and it helps resist Water/Ice/Psychic for nidoking. It also breaks specialized special walls (blissey/chansey, goodra-h) fairly easily and helps nidoking get kills it wouldnt have gotten with its spikes plus it help pivoting in. Also helps fend off tusk, with headlong unable to ohko it and it moving first and 2hkoing max hp tusk with razor shell.
4 Atk Great Tusk Headlong Rush vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Samurott-Hisui: 196-232 (61 - 72.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Sharpness Samurott-Hisui Razor Shell vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Great Tusk: 254-302 (58.6 - 69.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
if you want accuracy aqua cutter will do, still 2hko vs tusk
252 Atk Sharpness Samurott-Hisui Aqua Cutter vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Great Tusk: 240-284 (55.4 - 65.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
