malamar hate train

I still don't get the point of the mega itself. The teaser only works with everyone in on the joke because the gimmick already existed with base Malamar. You could have the exact same story with a normal Malamar, and it basically was just base Malamar being advertised for the week anyway.
It's like if they made a marketing campaign about people liking Machamp because it has 4 arms, and just talking about how it having 4 arms is so cool and tough, and then the reveal is that the mega still has 4 arms and is also smarter. It just doesn't feel like anything was being built up to that wasn't already there.
Meanwhile Victreebel and Hawlucha are at least explicitly doing things the normal mon can't do in their showings to show there's a design OR power difference. Like this is a fine teaser for the concept of Malamar itself but it fails to show off the difference of a mega to me.

maybe the real malamar was the friends we made along the way
had an epiphany earlier: the mega malamar reveal would have been just as cool if not cooler as an arg type thing
could tie into the lumiose detective stuff, which in of itself could have teased emma a bit more as well in conjunction with za's upcoming release. emma would also be an amazing thematic fit as a detective looking into whatever strange malamar-fueled occurences were happening around lumiose due to her not just being brainwashed herself as a major plot point in xy's episode looker, but said brainwasher's (the xeroceric guy or whatever he has an impossible name) ace pokemon is in fact a malamar
alas this did not end up happening but it would have been pretty poggers i think
