Cycle 26: Mega Latios

:sm/latios-mega:

Latios-Mega (M) @ Latiosite
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Luster Purge
- Mystical Fire
- Roost
- Ice Beam

Boasting excellent STABs and coverage, Mega Latios has cemented itself as one of the tiers most potent wallbreakers, being able to leverage its good movepool, solid defensive typing and access to recovery to reliably break teams throughout games. With Luster Purge being buffed this generation it makes it much harder for common switchins such as Galarian Slowking, where the increased damage when coupled with a possible Special Defense drop can make it very hard to switch in against. Its typing also lets it function as a softcheck against foes such as Ogerpon-W. How will you lure this dangerous dragon?

Malamar @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Careful Nature
- Superpower
- Knock Off
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

The face of Pokemon Showdown. What more is there to say about this devastating wall breaker, capable of crushing teams with ease, apart from the fact that it absolutely dominates the meta, with very little able to stand in its way. How will you lure the overlord of National Dex OU?

Go 'Tinis! ✌️

What does it mean to lure a threat exactly? To show up with an unexpected set? Malamar is ready for that. All the suggestions so far have simply meant to surprise the opponent, but none have truly lured our good friend Malamar. At least, not yet.

:Vivillon: @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Friend Guard
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Psych Up
- Skitter Smack
- Roost
- String Shot

We lay the promise of being a friend to Malamar with Friend Guard, ensuring his continued cooperation. With Roost, we can stay healthy while allowing him to get every Superpower boost he desires. String shot allows him to boost his speed, ensuring we give our good friend Malamar a gift to keep him enticed. Then, just like all my friends do, we stab Malamar in the back by taking all of his boosts with Psych Up, then promptly finishing him off with a couple Skitter Smacks. Truly a devious plan, but the only one possible to stop a threat such as Malamar. Defog is another option over String Shot, but good luck hitting two Skitter Smacks.

+6 0 Atk Malamar Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. +6 252 HP / 252+ Def Vivillon: 106-126 (29.1 - 34.6%) -- 5.9% chance to 3HKO
+6 0 Atk Vivillon Skitter Smack vs. +6 252 HP / 0 Def Malamar: 204-240 (54.2 - 63.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

With 3 votes Sami wins this slate!

Onto the next we go!

Cycle 28: Cinderace
:sv/cinderace:

Cinderace @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Blaze
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pyro Ball
- U-turn
- Court Change
- Will-O-Wisp

Boasting an excellent speed tier and access to unique support in Court Change, Cinderace functions as an effective offensive hazard removal option and pivot. Its solid bulk and resistances against common types such as Fairy and Steel make it a great offensive pivot, also being able to apply a lot of pressure with Pyro Ball, and cripple offensive threats with Will-O-Wisp. How will you lure this powerful rabbit?

Melmetal @ Lum Berry
Ability: Iron Fist
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 220 HP / 132 Atk / 144 SpD / 12 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Double Iron Bash
- Ice Punch
- Thunder Punch

I believe Melmetal is a lure, due to its crippling weakness to Wisp. It survives a Pyro Ball, and Lum prevents burns. It can OHKO Cinderace with EQ.

:melmetal: 132+ Atk Melmetal Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Cinderace: 302-356 (100.3 - 118.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
