RarelyUsed Champions League is an auction-based format consisting of 8 teams playing head-to-head for 8 weeks. That means that we are looking for 8 managers + assistant managers.
This year we will be introducing the concept of flex slots. There will be 10 slots in this tournament, with them being:
The hosts for this tournament will be IncredibleKing Jahkem and NLSlayer21. We are excited to be hosting the first iteration of RUCL this year! For now, everyone knows the rest: keep things civil, no meme sign-ups, and only post here if you truly intend on managing and being active through the tournament. Users who have an active managing ban, or have been recently banned or infracted (up to staff discretion and depending on gravity of said infractions) in RU are barred from managing or being an assistant manager for this tournament.
Manager signups will end on <t:1759118340:F>, but may end sooner if candidates are exceptionally good. If you have any questions, feel free to ask one of the hosts or RU staff.
This year we will be introducing the concept of flex slots. There will be 10 slots in this tournament, with them being:
- SV1
- SV2
- SV3
- SV4
- Flex 1A
- Flex 2A
- Flex 3A
- Flex 1B
- Flex 2B
- Flex 3B
The current format is, as explained:
SV will be played as we know, no gimmicks involved. The Flex tiers, however, is a new concept we will be introducing this tournament. An explanation for this can be seen here as initially proposed by malekith for last WCOP. These flex tiers would play the same role as the team chosen tiers proposed on that post, with available tiers ranging from SS all the way to ADV (excluding DPP). So in other words, the pool of available tiers will be: SS / SM / ORAS / BW / ADV.
The way it will work, albeit a bit weird at first, is actually quite simple. Lets say I, Jahkem, am managing the MF BLOOMS with my friend NLSlayer21, whereas IncredibleKing is managing the Limber Dittos, and we will be facing each other on the following week. Ideally, the tournament would have two deadlines: one for tier picking (lets say, for example, midnight EST Saturday), and one for actual lineups (11:59 PM EST Sunday). On Saturday, I PM the host my three picks: SM, ORAS and ADV, while IncredibleKing does the same, picking ORAS, BW, and ADV. Once every team has made their choice, the host will announce on the manager channel on RU cord every teams pick, which is when we will be informed of them. So in this case, I now know IncredibleKing chose ORAS, BW, and ADV, and they know I chose SM, ORAS and ADV. So from there, we know our match-up will be as follow:
SV1
SV2
SV3
SV4
Flex 1A => SM
Flex 2A => ORAS
Flex 3A = ADV
Flex 1B => ORAS
Flex 2B => BW
Flex 3B => ADV
Note there's no back and forth between managers and/or hosts, nor is there a priority order for picking. Every team simply blindly picks their tiers, and then we send our respective lineups by the end of the week as normal.
“But wait, doesn't this mean there will be two ORAS and two ADV games being played?”
Yes, it does. Remember: the same team can't pick two of the same tiers, but the same tier can be picked twice between both teams. I can't choose ORAS and ORAS, but I can choose ORAS while my opponents also choose ORAS. This adds a lot of strategy and decision making for managers, but that's not something I will cover here. In the event of tie breaks, it would just be played out as normal since they already use the concept of flex tiers: SV, Team A, Team B. So once tiers (flex tiers) are chosen, the tour basically plays out as normal, just with a dynamic tier ordering.
Since this format requires managers to communicate twice with hosts (one for flex picks, one for lineups), we will be using two separate deadlines for this: one for managers to pick their chosen tiers, and then the regular, end of the week deadline for lineups. The exact times are TBD. Once managers communicate to hosts via PMs their picks, the hosts will announce them on our RUCL managers channel on Discord, and then managers will have until that week's deadline to send their lineups.
