Burn out

Burn out is so tangible and potent but I am struggling at the moment to find the balance of too much mons and not enough.

When I'm not playing enough, I feel like i'm being left behind, but when I'm in too many tournaments at once, I feel overwhelmed and become more disinterested.

What are peoples tips for dealing with this frustrating conundrum...

Maybe take a break and play a different game for a bit. Perhaps you could try…

Don’t just play Mons. I play a variety of other games as well. Both competitive ones, and relaxing ones. Also if you play a lot of tours don’t ladder as much. I’ve been in a lot of tours this past month and because of this I’ve barely played any games on ladder. Works vice versa too.

I’d also say make sure to only signup for tours you’re interested in. Don’t signup for a random tour just cause. It’s okay to take breaks if you want to or take your foot off the gas. You don’t wanna stop enjoying your hobby because you push yourself too much. And this is (and should be considered)a hobby, don’t take it too seriously to the point you obsess over it.

Only sign up for tournaments you are TRULY interested in. I used to sign up for stuff because "ADV ZU sounds interesting" and then it became another obligation that I'm no longer interested in after a day.

Don't lose sleep over this site if you're a contributor, it's not ever worth it.

Play something easier like random battles or a format with a lot of resources like OU or VGC if you want to spend time playing the game without a lot of brain power.

Personally, for me, I typically try to limit myself in terms of tours that I sign up for. In the past, I would sign up for every single tour, and that would lead to a lot of burnout. I typically limit myself to a maximum of 3 individual tours unless it's something like classic or slam. For example, I typically only sign up for UU tours since that is the tier that I have the most experience with. Also when I tilt, I typically play another game such as Rimworld or CFB 26, just to get my mental state right.

Only sign up for stuff you're sure you will have fun with. I used to sign up to each and every tourneys in Ubers, just because "I main Ubers and should remain at my best level". But no, the only thing that I was doing was losing interest of mons over time. It's not just okay to play tours you enjoy, it must be the thing you do every time. Even if it's "not a lot of tourneys", I can assure you you'll have more fun that way overall.

I wish you a nice day! :blobnom:
