2025 ORAS OU Teambuilding Competition

Welcome to the 2025 ORAS Teambuilding Competition! I have been playing ORAS OU since its conception back in 2013 when it used to be called XY OU, and it has been my favourite meta ever since. To keep the ORAS discusion going the strong, I have decided to take over this iteration of the Teambuilding Competiton. Like in previous iterations, I will be providing different Pokémon or strategies each week, and you will have to build a team around said idea. The team doesn't have to be perfect or meta defining, the main purpose of this is to have fun!

Rules
1. Submissions

Post a team in the thread with a pokepaste link as well as a brief description/ explanation of the team and how it functions (if possible provide replays!)

2. Disputes and Copying
To avoid conflicts over allegations over copying and sharing similar entries, if your team has similar pokemon and sets as an earlier entry, it will be disqualified. Any attempts to get around this by reserving posts shall also result in disqualification.

3. Team changes and Suggestions
To avoid this thread from turning into an RMT thread, please avoid asking for suggestions in regards to major moveset and Pokémon changes. Minor changes are allowed however please keep them to a minimum and submit completed teams that you are pleased with.

4. No glazing
To avoid skewing results, vote for teams that you personally think are best. Don't vote for your friends teams just because they are your friends or teams from posters whose names you recognise as a way to get their recognition. In addition, avoid begging for votes and do not vote for yourself.

5. Common sense clause
Only post teams that are in accordance with the theme for the week. Apply common sense.

6. Post reservation
You are allowed to reserve posts so long as you finish the post within 48 hours of reservation. If the time elapses without the team being completed, your post will be ignored.

The formatting is as follows;

---

:avalugg: :chansey: :clefable: :swampert-mega: :skarmory: :zapdos:

Description (provide an explanation of the team and how it functions):
Avalugg has a good matchup into ground type rockers and physical attackers such as weavile... etc.

Import (you can share the whole team or just the pokepaste link):

You may use any sprites you like as long as you stick to the format.

Have fun building!

Let's kick this iteration of the teambuilding competition with one of my favourite Pokémon ever: Thundurus-Therian!

Thundurus-Therian

:xy/thundurus-therian:

Thundurus-Therian is an outstanding special attacker that has key immunities to important types such as ground and electric, making it a very valuable pick for offensively oriented teams. With access to Nasty Plot and Agility, Thundurus-Therian can choose what its purpose can be on a team, or it can choose to run both in some cases. With a speed tier of 101, it is able to outspeed common threats such as jolly Mega Medicham, timid Manaphy and everything that is below. However, there is much to be explored about Thundurus-Therian, and I can't wait to see what you come up with for this first week!

Deadline will be on Monday, 27th October 8 pm GMT +1.
Happy posting!

Pretty cool jank HO screens team that uses excadrill as the removal and rocks setter while also having a backup in latias.
Mgyara breaks stall, esp with hwish support, you overwhelm offense with double dance thundy that is modest and volcarona comes in late game and sweeps.
All you need to do is chip the pokemon who is holding your sweeper back and then get your sweeper in vs the opposing pokemon that gives you set up potential, e.g. volcarona on zapdos, leading to easy wins

:Thundurus-Therian: :Scizor-Mega: :Keldeo: :Clefable: :Zapdos: :Kyurem-Black:
This is my first time building a Thundurus therian team, but I decided to take a bit of a different look at it.
Most teams that have a thundurs therian, are usually HO with double dance, but I decided to build more of an offensive team with specs thundurus, as I believe it has some good wallbreaking potential.
I decided to pair it up with mega Scizor as they complement each other decently well, with thundy dealing with bulky waters and scizor threatening and doing well against Weavile and Lopunny, mons that can come in and revenge kill Thundurus (tho we need to be wary or pursuit with weavile).
The rest of the team was made to complement thundy, keldeo is there to take care of chansey and heatran, and is not so scared of toxic or thunder wave because of clefable using heal bell. Specially defensive Zapdos helps vs special threats, and Kyurem Black is there for the mega venusaur matchup, but I decided to run hidden power fire as this team can struggle against Ferrothorn.
One hard matchup for this team can be mega Medicham, but Thundurus cleanly 1 hit koes it with thunderbolt.

:shuckle: :nidoking: :Scizor-Mega: :Thundurus-Therian: :Jellicent: :Dragonite:

This team plays fast, hits hard, and never lets the opponent breathe.
A flawless mix of offense and control.

:Shuckle:(:Mental Herb:) – Gets Sticky Web and Rocks up no matter what thanks to Herb blocking Taunt.
Encore punishes setup leads and Final Gambit trades for instant advantage. Once Webs are up, everything else becomes terrifying.

:Nidoking:(:Life Orb:) : Sheer Force - The Real Nuke.
Substitute gives it free setup chances and guarantees at least two kills once behind a Sub.
It abuses Webs perfectly, outspeeding and destroying most slower mons with Earth Power / Ice Beam / Sludge Wave.

:Scizor-Mega:(:Scizorite:) - Webs turn this into a menace. Three-attack set with Bullet Punch, Bug Bite and Superpower covers everything while keeping momentum. It cleans beautifully once the field is slowed and chipped.

:Thundurus-Therian:(:Leftovers:) – A deadly special sweeper and breaker. , and its coverage lets it handle every type of wall.
Once Scizor or Dragonite softens the field, Thundurus finishes

:Dragonite:(:Lum-Berry:) – Multiscale ensures it can set up Dragon Dance safely . After a boost, it sweeps teams slowed by Webs, paving the way for Scizor and Thundurus to clean up anything left.

:Jellicent:(:Air-Balloon:) – Blocks Rapid Spin and keeps Webs permanent. Its typing and Will-O-Wisp + Taunt + Recover combo make it incredibly annoying to break while supporting the offense.

Scizor has troubles with zapdos, Nidoking can easily setup Substitute on it or force it to switch. Modest Nat with Life Orb Boosted Shear Force deals enormous dmg.
180 speed on scizor allows it to outspeed 252 speed keldeo on webs.
180 speed on Jellicent allows it to get 200 speed. It can use taunt on slower mons and also get wisp on threats such as +6 azumarill.

:Thundurus-Therian: :Volcarona: :Garchomp: :Serperior: :Cloyster: :diancie-mega:

Was always jealous I missed out on the team building competition... Thanks Avendesora for giving me this second chance! (And also being my friend ^-^)

This is a hyper offensive team focusing on Thundy-T! Yes, I know, I'm really creative for this never before seen idea, but read the rest of the post first :puff:

The Mon itself doesn't have a lot of attractive features, but my favorite aspect has to be the sand matchup. With Agility + 3 Attacks, you actually sweep the cookie cutter sand cores. Think of mons like Mega Tyranitar, Keldeo, Excadrill, Serperior, and base form Thundurus. These all crumple to attacks from Thundy-T. Unlike other HO threats, Agility allows it to outspeed Sand Rush Excadrill! This makes it an appealing partner to regular HO teams, as those typically hate sand offense.

Speaking of, the first Mon I thought of was Volcarona, as the two have great synergy. For one, where Thundy-T excels on the sand matchup, Volcarona falters, so having the former around will give more consistency to the matchup moth. Second, Volcarona is one of the best abusers of Mega Venusaur, a significant thorn in the way of Thundy-T sweeping.

After these two, Serperior and Cloyster were taken. Serp sets up screens, uses Taunt to help wear down bulkier teams, and has the important quality of checking Manaphy. I didn't feel the need to use Glare here, especially as I value having an additional tool into bulky team, but I suppose it could be considered! Cloyster is an important piece of the team for clearing hazards, particularly on the common Ground-type setters of the tier. It also sets Toxic Spikes, allowing Thundy-T to have an easier time breaking past the likes of Hippowdon and Gastrodon.

For the last two slots, I needed a mega, hazards, and a Weavile check. Our Volcarona matchup was rather shaky, so I opted for Garchomp. With the Rocky Helmet and HP investment, it makes for a decent check to the vast number of physical attackers we don't like switching into, such as Metagross and Lop. The residual damage accrued through Rocky Helmet allows Thundy-T to score important OHKOes on the aforementioned threats later in the match. SD lets Garchomp play an offensive role by chipping checks like Clefable and Hippowdon, which partners like Thundy-T, Volcarona, and Cloyster appreciate.

Last was Mega Diancie, allowing us to have a mega evolution and a decent Weavile pivot. If the Weavile locks into Icicle Crash, we can at least punish them with Cloyster. I chose to use a physical set to put further pressure on Mega Venusaur and Chansey, both of which are nuisances for Volcarona and Thundy-T. Magic Bounce is a nice bit of support for Volcarona and Thundy-T, especially as Cloyster spins against the Ground-types Diancie can't block.

That's it! Hope the team plays well for anyone interested. You might consider running alternative items on the Volcarona, such as Lum. I would have run it myself, but you can consider this team as a "safe" version; Lum is always an option if you are willing!
