those who don’t want to read all of this you can just grab the Pokepaste
So I watched a video on electric terrain teams in gen 9 ou. And then I thought to myself after using this team, “man raging bolt can just sweep everything, I just wish I had a better terrain setter that could cover for its dragon weakness, set electric terrain ,be a good form of speed control and pivot around to make use of those turns.” And then I saw Tapu Koko in natdex. That’s how the 2 members I was going to build around started.
Disclaimer: this team is very matchup reliant and it’s hard to win fights with multiple ground types or dark types
This team is I would say more geared towards offense than hyper offense as it tries to find the perfect checkmate position with raging bolt. So it actually enjoys switching around to try and align sun and electric terrain.
The main strategy: you try to align the electric terrain and sun turns at the early game so that raging bolt can take down and deal big damage early game. I would send Tapu koko first as it’s holding terrain extender(one of the main reasons it’s holding it) then try to bring charizard in for sun then bring in raging bolt for the early kills. Then when raging bolt gets threatened switch it out. If done right it should still have its booster energy. Using charizard and landorus and great tusk deal as much chip as you can on the mons threatening raging bolt. Then late game bring Tapu koko back in for electric terrain and bring raging bolt in. Thanks to the booster energy it should have +SPA. Calm mind should be optional as you did chip damage in the mid game. By the way this team is NOT perfected in Evs and I would appreciate it if you guys commented the changes that could make this team better
I’ll get into the Pokemon next
Tapu koko: my terrain setter. It’s timid as I didn’t want an instant lose to weavile. since this team was already very matchup reliant I’ll be taking every matchup I can win. I’ve been experimenting and offensive items don’t really help as it’s mostly just here for terrain and to pick off weakened foes/ clean up late game if raging bolt can’t
Raging bolt: the star of the team it’s my sweeper and can absolutely destroy stall once clodsire is gone. Timid nature to make better use of rising voltage. You could use modest if you really wanted to. Even though we have sun as a sub archetype I still decided on booster energy so it could make progress in the early game and have booster so it’s not so dependent on charizard staying alive. I won’t go into too much detail because I already wrote about it above.
Lando: landorus is another piece of speed control. Explosion is really fun as it can be used to generate momentum and deal huge damage to the mons that previously walled raging bolt. Knock off is there for things like ting Lu which may just be the worst mon to face for this team. But it’s really your choice what you want to sub for knock off.
Great tusk: the most consistent way of hazard control doubles down on the ground type but I’ve had no problems with it so far. It’s synergies with charizard is great their typing both cover well for each other especially since the charizard is bulky and great tusks removal allows charizard to dodge those stealth rocks. You could use ice fang but so far I’m fine with terrain being reset as it’s fairly easy to bring Tapu koko in.
Charizard: my sun setter and an offensive prescence on the team it can work to chip/kill mons hurting raging bolt
Iron crown: it’s a pretty fun set it forces progress with future sight and volt switch is another way of brining bolt in. Assault vest iron crown has been decent in OU so I brought it here and people definitely don’t expect it. Iron crown is a vital piece as it helps position charizard and Tapu koko while still being an offensive threat.
