Other Tier 35 Pokes-- January 2026 (happy new year!)

Early Meta Viability Rankings for November 2025

Signups for the November 2025 tournament are officially open!!!

This metagame, moreso in my opinion than some recent ones, reminds me of classic 35 Pokes metas that made you stop in your tracks when the thought of "I need to account for this pokemon in the builder otherwise my team's going to lose" crossed your mind. For me, that was the realization that shadow ball :drifblim: was a sleeper anti-meta threat I had not accounted for, and that :Lunatone:, a pokemon once quickbanned for being too unuseable to allow for another spinner to enter the meta (this was almost exactly 2 years ago), is genuinely a threat and a win condition in this metagame. But fans of more conventional tiers, don't abandon hope yet -- we have something for you too in the form of Pickpocket :Tinkaton: being the current most used pokemon in the entire metagame. Even webs, screens, and paraspam aren't enough to stop this absolute demon from using what it learned in its time in SV OU to mop the floor with the comparative toddlers (and :Silvally:) occupying natdex 35 November this year. The tournament scene itself is also heating up, with higher numbers of highly decorated players than ever entering the competition at the same time as we've crowned our second brand-new champion in a row!! I absolutely cannot wait to see what everybody comes up with for this next tournament, and can barely contain my excitement for what we have in store for the tier's top players at the end of this year...

tournament signups -- tournament will be hosted on the official 35 Pokes Discord server, with more details TBA soon! Typically though, these tournaments are two stage tours with fast no-johns rounds!

Regarding Squawkabilly [December 2025 metagame]:

Only the Green form is legal to use this month; the Yellow and White forms are not. The Green and Blue forms have Guts as their hidden ability, while the Yellow and White ones have Sheer Force. Since no individual Squawkabilly can potentially access both the Guts and the Sheer Force abilities, the forms with different hidden abilities are considered different pokemon for the sake of legality in this tier. And, despite the Blue and Green forms sharing the same hidden ability, since they are technically considered different pokemon on Cartridge and in National Dex, they are also considered separate pokemon.

The Council has voted unban the following items:
Ultranecrozium z
Solganium Z
Lunalium Z
Mewnium Z
Marshadium Z

and ban the following:
Booster Energy

The respective Z crystals were unbanned because of them bypassing Knock Off's increased damage as well as making the users immune to Trick and Switcheroo which is better in most cases over using no item; Shaymin in January25 for reference. These Z crystals were added because there was a definitive decision that the mons that could potentially use them, would never be added to the rollable pool. Tapunium Z & Kommonium Z are not added despite their Pokemon not being rollable because there is still debate if Kommo-o or Tapu Bulu should be allowed to be rolled. Booster Energy was banned as a precaution for the addition of Sandy Shocks & Iron Leaves into the rollable pool, and the ban may possibly be lifted in the future.

Tagging dhelmise for the listed Z Crystals unban, Booster Energy ban, and December25 Roster update (ty c:)

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but you are probably aware of what was happening in the Discord server. My Discord account had been compromised and spamming messages to suspicious links in the server. Please let everyone know that I am 100% innocent and fell to an unfortunately very convincing scam that came from a former user on the Smogon forums. This should not in any way affect my standings in the 35 Pokes community.

Okay, if I want to play, where do I go?
Unfortunately, whenever it comes to metas that don't fall on April or October, it's always the #matchmaking channel on the 35 Pokes Discord server, and it seems like there's no other good options at the moment.

Discord has been known to be quite risky in the past and you and I should know — this is coming from someone who recently suffered from a compromised Discord account and now currently barred from touching their services IRL.

I’m in, and I’m ready. However, there are different matchmaking channels. Which one is correct for me?

December 2025 Tiering Council Update

In the interest of transparency and demonstrating to our playerbase that we are actively discussing and considering the metagame even when no actions are taken, the council voted on whether or not to suspect Revavroom in a conclusion to the December 2025 proceedings. The vote failed 2-5, and the votes of each council member alongside their justifications for voting as they did are included below. I was personally on the minority side of this vote, a position to which I always knew I would make my eventual return. Had the suspect come to pass though, I likely would have stepped outside council minorityship's warm embrace to vote against removing the Pokémon in question from the metagame. I believed that something needed to be done about the metagame, that a suspect test was the best approach to any potential action, and that a definitive vote on Revavroom would the metagame-specific option that best addressed the playerbase's concerns, but I was not entirely convinced that banning :Revavroom: was the answer we needed. My actual opinion, something I still can't believe ThyUnitPossessCopium managed to convince me of, was that some sort of action on Taunt would have dramatically improved the metagame. In the interest of not having my fellow council members 5150 me though, I refrained from pushing for action on Taunt to be formally considered.

Council Votes Breakdown:

I voted no action on Revavroom

common defensive pokemon such as Skarmory, Blastoise, Mandibuzz, and Uxie all put a damper on a sweep. It also has trouble sweeping against veil. Taunt sets don't have iron head and lose to healthy mamo. It is not easy to setup without getting chipped. Obviously it still has its place in the meta but there is more than enough counterplay to revavroom, and most of that counterplay is meta relevant and not difficult to fit on a team

My vote was to suspect test Revavroom. While I’m pretty on the fence when it comes to brokenness, the community has been pretty vocal on wanting some kind of action on it and I’m inclined to agree with them. While the metagame does have answers, they are very restringing in the builder which is why so many teams are using nearly identical cores on about half of all teams

I voted to suspect test Revavroom. I don't think that Revavroom is the only problem in the metagame, nor that getting rid of it alone will solve things, but I do think it is a problem and that there is a world in which the metagame becomes more competitive and balanced without it. On paper, Revavroom does seem to be able to choose its counters and therefore shut down its checks depending on the matchup, but on the other hand if the matchup is unfavorable then there is often little Rev is able to do. It is still a pokemon with great typing and an incredible setup move that is arguably uncompetitive just as a mechanic itself, so I understand why some people would genuinely think that this pokemon is the one biggest issue in the metagame. It is quite restricting on the teambuilder, and it can be difficult to fit sufficient answers for every potential Revavroom set in addition to making a generally well-rounded team that can deal with the other top metagame threats. Were it not for Skarmory, I would much more strongly believe that this pokemon in completely unhealthy and uncompetitive for the meta. Skarmory presents an interesting twist because its presence would likely be just as ubiquitous without Revavroom and so in a way Revavroom is able to keep it more in balance than it otherwise would be. That being said, because the community (all of you reading this) seems to want some sort of action on this meta to be considered, and because I personally think thatsomething should be done about this meta, I in turn believe that the right thing to do here is to leave the final decision up to you all (the community) to determine for yourselves whether it has a place in this metagame or not. Doing so would, in the absence of certainty that we the council are on the right path, at least affords us the security of knowing that we gave it our genuine best try.

I voted No Action on Revavroom. While it's true that Reva is one of the scariest sweepers in the tier it really suffers from 4MSS, Shift Gear is obviously mandatory, Gunk Shot to deal with bulkier mons (since +1 atk is not as big as it seems), iron head for the ice trio and mismagius and taunt+templar flare to not instalose to skarmory or get veil set up by defensive vaniluxe, combined with the abundance of bulky mons, many of them with phasing moves, and strong priority moves makes it so while powerful and certainly a mon to keep in mind while building, it's not the unstoppable sweeper some think it is.For these reasons I think taking action against it is unnecessary

I voted no action on RevavroomRevavroom while being a great sweeper has never been a mon that I had to worry about in the builder this meta. Having something to stop Galvantula doing constant volt switch damage and something to live Mamoswine has taken much more precedent in my building than Revavroom. There’s enough counter play involving Pokemon that are already generally good in the meta. These being Skarmory, Mandibuzz, Uxie, Blastoise, and even Centiskorch to an extent. The taunt set can be annoying to deal with and often feels like a checkmate but Mandubuzz always wins the exchange with Foul Play. Blastoise has access to Scald and Flip turning into a defensive partner in the aforementioned list of mons. Skarmory always wins the exchange if you spend the first turn clicking body press instead of IDef or Whirlwind. And Uxie can beat it with the mirror herb encore set or with Twave/Yawn since it naturally outspeeds meaning it can’t be taunted. Taunt sets also lack Iron Head which means Thick Fat Mamoswine can win the exchange as well.Mismagius is also another check to Revavroom. Naturally outspeeding and being able to Wisp or Taunt. Also being able to live Gunk Shot and Temper Flare at +1 is great as it can also spend the Shift Gear turn and Subsequent turn to just click Shadow Ball or Mystical Fire. Or click Nasty plot into either of those moves.

I voted No Action on Revavroom.

I have found many answers for Revaroom. Skarmory, Glastrier, Mismagius, and Blastoise are the ones I personally have used with Mandibuzz being another one. While Revavroom can absolutely win against an unprepared opponent, Blastoise and Mamoswine can do it equally well.

I voted No Action on Revavroom.
While its shift gear set is strong, I feel it’s not overly oppressive. It has strong 4mss and can’t cover every match up. It needs taunt to break Skarmory (which skarm can even still win if it just clicks BP 3 times) but then it has to drop iron head or gunk shot, both of which are very important coverage. Other defensive mons like mandibuzz, uxie, non-smash Blastoise, and offensive mons like glastrier and mamoswine can 1v1 it depending on the set. For all this I think it’s fairly healthy and not broken.

I won two team tours with this team, and I want to share this with yall, this team is so peak.

:sv/sharpedo: :sv/tyrantrum: :sv/orbeetle: :sv/medicham: :sv/Typhlosion-Hisui: :sv/houndstone:

:sharpedo: :life orb:
THE GOAT (Sharpedo) @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Crunch
- Close Combat
- Psychic Fangs

Sharpedo was the Pokemon I wanted to use, and so I went with a classic 3 Attacks + Protect. Close Combat is neccessary for Cobalion and Psychic Fangs is neccessary for Fezandipiti. Very strong mon, but you need to play it very well.

:tyrantrum: :loaded dice:
Tyrantrum @ Loaded Dice
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
Shiny: Yes
- Dragon Dance
- Scale Shot
- Head Smash
- Close Combat

Tyrantrum is a very scary Pokemon, and with Dragon Dance it gets elevated to amazing levels. Scale Shot + Loaded Dice is amazing, giving you such a strong, somewhat consistent option, and Close Combat is great for Cobalion.

:orbeetle: :lum berry:
Orbeetle @ Lum Berry
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
Shiny: Yes
- Skill Swap
- Sticky Web
- Bug Buzz
- Magic Coat

This guy looks weird, but with Max HP and Max SpDef, you live any hit from Vivillion and have a favored chance to live Eruption from Scarf Typhlosion. Skill Swap is crucial versus Hatterene, and Magic Coat is cool tech for opposing Rocks/Taunt. Lum Berry is cool versus Sleep Powder leads.

:medicham: :life orb:
Medicham @ Life Orb
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
Shiny: Yes
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt
- Fire Punch
- Poison Jab

Adamant Medicham kills EVERYONE. Fire Punch is neccessary versus Shedinja and Poison Jab hits Hatterene and Celebi for stronger, with a lethal chance to poison.

:typhlosion-hisui: :leftovers:
Typhlosion-Hisui @ Leftovers
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
Shiny: Yes
- Calm Mind
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute

Best mon of the entire meta, so...

Typlosion serves as Sun insurance, as well as just being a very strong Calm Minder. With Sleep Talk it can ensure that the dishonest Vivillion doesn't throttle everything, especially if your opponent is a dishonest Sash User.

:houndstone: :weakness policy:
Houndstone @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Fluffy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Poltergeist
- Double-Edge
- Shadow Sneak
- Destiny Bond

Houndstone is extremely strong, as there aren't really good Poltergeist switchins. With Double-Edge, it can beat Cincinno thanks to its weakness policy, and with Shadow Sneak it can pick off unsuspecting Typlosions. Destiny Bond is amazing against Pokemon you simply cannot oneshot.

edit: won a second room tour
