Heatran @ Leftovers
Name: Bulky Heatran (Steel)
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 24 Def / 116 SpD / 120 Spe or 248 HP / 24 Def / 236 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm / Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Power Gem
- Protect / Stealth Rock / Will-O-Wisp
[SET COMMENTS]
With a bulkier spread, Heatran can hold the line reliably against attempts to break Steel teams from threats such as Choice Specs Dragapult and Iron Moth. Magma Storm eliminates Steel-types such as Skarmory and Scizor while also enabling Heatran to trap and deal chip damage to threats like Toxapex and Hisuian Goodra. Alternatively, Lava Plume can be used to fish for burns, and for its superior accuracy. Earth Power handles Steel-types capable of handling Heatran's Fire-type moves such as opposing Heatran and Hisuian Goodra along with dealing with Poison- and Electric-types like Galarian Slowking and Raging Bolt. Power Gem nails Volcarona and Air Balloon Heatran on the switch along with hitting Flying-types such as Moltres and Zapdos. Protect can allow Heatran to scout against Choice-locked threats like Greninja and Iron Moth. Alternatively, Stealth Rock can be used to set entry hazards, freeing up moveslots from teammates like Archaludon, while Will-O-Wisp can punish physical attackers attempting to switch into Heatran such as Hisuian Samurott. The given EV Spread enables Heatran to outspeed Modest Magnezone and survive a +2 Ceruledge Poltergeist from full HP while putting the rest into its Special Defense. The alternative EV Spread maximizes Heatran's special bulk, preventing Choice Specs Spectrier from 2HKOing it.
Heatran can form an immunity core for Steel teams when paired with Skarmory and Gholdengo, with Heatran providing a Fire immunity that both appreciate. In return, Skarmory provides a Ground immunity and physical wall capable of handling threats like Excadrill and Hisuian Samurott, while Gholdengo provides a Fighting immunity, allowing it to easily check Fighting-types such as Sneasler and Iron Valiant. Together they also make a strong entry hazard-stacking core with Heatran providing Stealth Rock, Skarmory providing Spikes, and Gholdengo being able to block removal attempts from Forretress and Corviknight. Archaludon can handle Water-types like Ogerpon-W and Barraskewda along with physical Fire-types such as Ogerpon-H and Cinderace that can handle Heatran, while Choice Scarf sets are able to outspeed and check foes like Walking Wake with Draco Meteor and Urshifu-R with Thunderbolt. Air Balloon Iron Treads can handle Electric-types like Sandy Shocks and Raging Bolt while also being able to use Ice Spinner to check Gliscor and Landorus. Hisuian Goodra provides a sturdier special wall capable of handling special threats that can threaten to overwhelm Heatran like Choice Specs Greninja, Darkrai, and Walking Wake while appreciating Heatran checking Iron Moth and Volcarona. Swords Dance Scizor is capable of handling threats like Iron Valiant and Flutter Mane for Heatran with Bullet Punch along with using Trailblaze to pressure Water-types such as Swampert and Primarina.

Steel
-----------
Heavy Slam can be used to handily deal with Flutter Mane and Clefable. Running Ability Shield can be an option to check Ogerpon-H, but it gives up Heatran's passive recovery. Substitute can be used over Heatran's other utility option, making the mirror much rougher for opposing Steel teams, along with enabling it to more reliably fish for Lava Plume burns.
