Duo's previous TLG with Calyrex-Shadow was pretty goated, & Caly-S itself is a cool mon. It's not like I "NEED" any specific legend (for the ones I do, I lack mons to fulfill their whims).

Generally great mons, I really wanted to try out Colossoil before it gets nerfed, & this looked like the best opportunity. Snaelstrom is another cool mon, Mamo has made some fun plays using this, & I am looking forward to trying it as well. Colossoil can take care of Ghost-types, while Snaelstrom is technically good against Darks.

Okay, Snael is a fake Dark counter, especially against things like TTar or Gambit; I need a better one. Gallade sounds pretty decent. I really like Gallade, one of my top 5 favs. And it has an amazing movepool, nothing can really go wrong :cope:

Round 1 Send-out:
I don't like this matchup. There's a rain setup, & that Golduck is going to be painful. Both Golduck & Kingdra can outspeed my Caly-S.

While Fog is present: Our favored Pokemon have Evasive against contact attacks.
This one is pretty nasty, I've got Snael, Colo, & Gallade, all of them kinda like contact moves. Gallade especially, cuz Leaf Blade is a contact move, I have fewer ways to hit them.

When Our favored trainer withdraws a Pokemon: Create Fog.
I believe there's a 90% chance Fort leads with Politoed. Maybe I can try to lead Snaelstrom & trap Politoed. But then again, I really want to capitalize on the Smog (Fog)** on Snael, along with Lefties, so maybe I shouldn't lead it. Colossoil has a rather dead matchup; I am not leading that. Gallade, maybe, but there isn't much I'm doing. Maybe I can just go & blast with Caly-S, & if they try to switch, I counterswitch to Snael.

While Fog is present: Increase our favored Pokemon’s Defense and Special Defense ranks by one (1) each, and those ranks are at least eight (8).
I'm a little confused if it goes to 8 or 8+1 in normal cases. I'll probably assume the worst possible case of 9. This is bad for me. I am realising how good Suicune's whims are now that I think of it. Caly-S still deals decent damage, but for the rest, I probably have to stall.

Colossoil & Gallade are big no-nos. I think I'll probably try to lead with Snaelstrom, do funny stuff, & when things get dicey, I come to my Caly-S to carry. Politoed fsr screams 'lead mon' to me, I can probably try to trap stall it with Snael. Snael can equip Lefties cuz we're getting Toxic from the Smog (Future Solosis is crying rn). I'll use Oran Berry cuz why not?

Round 1 Second Order:
Golduck is interesting. It is Level 2, so it might not be that painful :cope:. I am realising it has Role Play, which can be bad if it tries to create Fog & then copy Poison Heal. Anyway, I think I'll neutralise this round with Charm; there's not much to do here, honestly. Do I go for Sticky Web or just lower its speed & switch to Caly-S? Maybe go with the latter, Sticky Web might not be super valuable. I don't feel like writing much.

Round 2 First Order:
Defense Forte Caly-S is good. I don't think I'll use HDB. Also, Enigma Berry is cool, cuz I see some random Shadow Claw & Thief. Let's see what moves I should look after. Not having Fog atm is even better, Caly-S gets to deal a ton of damage.

(Solved) Yawn + Hypnosis: This is a really bad combo for me. If I'm not mistaken, that's two rounds of Sleep, & Sleep Talk doesn't fully counter it. I must absolutely use Protect on this. Okay, no, I can use Uproar.

(Solved) Disable + Confuse Ray: Confuse Ray is also pretty bad. I'd like to deal Nuclear damage with my Caly-S. Maybe I should just Taunt them when they try to use this. But what if they get faster? Do they have speed-raising moves? They don't :D

(Solved) Confuse Ray: Again, bad move. Do I have to write 2 subs for this? How about if I try Confusion. But they can disable it. Is there no way to check for both Confuse Ray & the combo? Okay, we can, that's really nice.

(Solved) Disable: Sub 4 is the ultimate counter.

(Solved) Encore: Need to be wary of this. Nothing to sub about this.

(Solved) Clear Smog / Haze: Does that mean I can't use Nasty Plot combo? :chanzhispoiled: Maybe I should not use Plot ;-;. Also, I don't think Fog is gonna hurt much either. I just love how Flinch + Brute-force damage moves take care of non-damaging moves from the opponent; they'll be punished by 30-ish damage.

(Solved) Hypnosis: Does Fort have the guts to raw hypnosis me?

(Solved) Light Screen: AUUUGHHH. Ykw, Flinch Turn 1 & Energy Ball Turn 2 already give me enough value.

(Solved) Protect: I Nasty Plot.

(Solved) Substitute: I kinda want to use my Sound move, do I have any? Round, Snarl, Snore, Uproar. Uproar is a crazy good move now that I think of it. I can fully counter all the sleep subs. Can they silence me? No :3 Ykw, I'll Astral Barrage them, & sub for sleep to use Uproar. Thank goodness I'm writing these notes, so I was reminded that Uproar exists. Disabling my uproar would be a bad idea, so I'm not concerned about Sleep -> Disable :D

(Solved) Thief: Stealing my incense would be mean, but is it really worth it? I can pretty much just heal it with Enigma Berry, & my stuff already deals a good amount of damage on 9 defenses.

(Solved) Yawn: Lou, nerf this, please. Edit: Uproar solves all your problems.

My Orders might look something like:

Astral Barrage ~ Astral Barrage ~ Astral Barrage

[Start of Turn] IF you are asleep, THEN use Uproar.
[Start of Turn] IF Golduck is under the effect of Protection, THEN use Nasty Plot.
[Start of Turn] IF Golduck is to use a Confusion-inflicting move, THEN use Taunt.
[Start of Turn] IF Golduck is NOT under the effect of Protection, AND Golduck is NOT under the effect of Decoy, AND Golduck is NOT evasive, THEN use Dark Pulse + Snarl the first instance, Energy Ball the second instance, AND Giga Drain the third instance.

I've realised that Dynamic Punch beats my Sub 3, but honestly, I don't mind Golduck using Dynamic Punch on my Caly-S :cutecharmuser:

Round 3 Counterswitch:
Phew, at least I get to keep my combos. I think despite messing that Taunt sub, I still did...decent this round. I am in a good damage lead at the moment, and my Caly-S is very healthy, which is really nice to have.

Dragonite is another bad matchup. I absolutely do not want to first order against it with a Snaelstrom; that would be pathetic. But my Caly-S is confused, do I really want to take the risk? I can do a Snael vs Golduck, but not this. Ykw, I can try to use Confusion on Dragonite, to pass the confusion to it. Nite deals about 12 damage with its STABs, and has no combos. I should maybe stay with Caly-S; Snael will look after Golduck. My main target should be to transfer the confusion, and if he somehow subs for it, maybe do other funny stuff, I have a lot of them. Good thing now I know the power of dread >:)

Round 3 Second Order:
I just realised this fog doesn't give me Toxic, I'm so dumb ;-;

BTW, I have been thinking of ways to 3HKO DNite right away, but there are none, even without writing the notes. Caly-S is also confused, which is sad. I don't really want to first order against this thing. How about 2RKO it with something like SBall + NPlot & then Astral Barrage next round. The dread I get from -Acc drop might help a ton. I somehow need to Aim, then probably Agility, cuz I want to be faster, and then I wreak havoc. How much do I do exactly? SBall + Plot deals 27, ABarrage deals 41 with +3 SpA, hmmm. How about:

Agility ~ Snarl ~ Shadow Ball + Nasty Plot
And the next round goes Astral Barrage.
This all costs me around 12 EN, and I'll be left with 8 to deal with Golduck. I think that'd suffice.

How much damage do I deal atm, & how much do I take?
Snarl: 14 dmg (-2 HP confusion)
SBall + Plot (with Dread): 35 dmg (-23 HP confusion, idgaf honestly, Nuclear bombs are supposed to explode to nuke people :cutecharmuser:)
With lefties healing, DNite will be left with 50 HP. Wait.... Astral Barrage only deals 41 TToTT.

How about if I use Curse instead? Arrgghh, how do I end them?
Do I really have to order first against them?

How about:
Agility ~ Shadow Ball + Nasty Plot ~ Astral Barrage
And then Astral Barrage next round.

This deals about: 27 + 31 = 58 damage (54 cuz lefties)
This still isn't enough to end Nite, but I want my Agility ;-;
I can't even Flinch Combo them cuz they have Inner Focus. Is it possible to just remove their ability? Maybe not...

If I Taunt them turn 1 so that their Toxic can't execute, does the sub permanently disable? Cuz it was not able to use Toxic in the first instance? I can't even ask this to anyone...

Maybe I'll go with the Snarl strat, and then just try to hit ABarrage twice. I am faster, so he won't be able to do much. By that time, I'll probably be at 48 HP. Not bad, honestly. If it tries to protect stall me, I'll chill & set up even harder.

Round 4 First Order:
I kinda feel pretty comfy with the situation. All I need to do currently is just go according to the play and capitalise on Dread to kill Nite. Currently, it looks like:

[Start of Turn] IF Dragonite is NOT under the effect of Protection, AND Dragonite is NOT Evasive, THEN use Astral Barrage.

I have enough EN to fire 3 ABarrages, and Snarl is also 2 EN, which is nice. I still need to make sure my subs don't extend 11 EN, and I get at least one hit on Dreaded Nite.

Now, what are the things that stop me from playing?

Protect: The most obvious move here, not only does the -1 SpA go, but also they get 10 toxic chip + Lefties. In order to maintain the dread, how about using Aim? Costs 2 EN, Nite still gets the dread. I just need to aim at turn 1, hmmmm, if he protects otherwise, maybe I use Aromatherapy.
How about: [Start of Turn] IF Dragonite is under the effect of Protection, THEN use Aim if it is Turn 1, AND Aromatherapy otherwise.
Is this sub legal? I think I've seen similar subs at places. Okay, I think it is legal. Keriel used a similar-ish sub in his Realgam.

Aerial Ace: Removes the dread, but the damage will be done by then :3

Agility/Thunder Wave: What if they try to get super fast, and then go evasive? I can't even use Phantom Force. I'll do something about this later.

Bide: Not an issue, I am most likely 2HKOing them (or am I)? One sec. AstBarrage deals 41 with dread & +3 SpA, and then they are left with 13 HP. Even if they heal with Lefties twice, that's 19 HP (even a neutral 0 SpA AstBarrage does this much), more than enough for me.

Double Team: Nah, he's not using that.

Roost: Even if he tries to heal 20 HP (ending up at 37 at the end of Turn 1), I still deal 31 without Dread, so it isn't worth it unless he decides to just stall me.

Okay, so the only issue is when they are fast, and they are evasive. They have Dive, Fly, and Sky Drop.
Dive: Evasive against "Contact" (irrelevant) & "Multi-Target" (Astral Barrage is multi-target :sad:)
Fly: Hovering and Evasive against Single-Target >:( (good thing I have 2 Subs left)
Sky Drop: The subject's single-target actions are redirected to the Carrier, if possible. (WHAT?) Does that mean DNite's single target actions, or Single target actions targeting DNite? Maybe it is the latter.

Fixes to these:
[Start of Step] IF Dragonite is faster than you, AND Dragonite is to use Fly, THEN use Astral Barrage.
[Start of Step] IF Dragonite is faster than you, AND Dragonite is to use Dive, THEN use Shadow Ball.

I really hope these subs don't fuck things up (I mean, even if they do, they still have a not-so-healthy Dragonite)

Post-Forfeit:
Aww, he forfeited. Good for me, but honestly, he still had a chance. I did NOT like the Duck vs Snail matchup. He could've done some sleep shenanigans with the setup to end me, and I couldn't do much in return. Nonetheless, I'll take the win :D YIPPEEEE, GGWP Fort. (Also, I should probably mention, this is the second time my mon has died because I ignored that certain berries consume EN TToTT) Funnily enough, I still haven't figured out how many defenses Suicune's whim gives, oh well (somebody tell me please)!

I'm honestly not keen about the rewards. Calyrex is whatever. Maybe it was to send a message to those....

This match was....something. I'd say I played this really nicely, well...considering my standards & my tendency to fuck up my matches. Writing notes, honestly, helped me a ton:

1) It was a good place for me to write stuff that I'd most definitely forget while ordering. Eg: I almost ordered a Flinch combo into Nite.
2) It kinda forced me to look at things. I had a place to jot down all the potential threats and ways to solve them, all the strategies I could apply, and discover certain moves that I'd most likely ignore but were relevant here, such as Uproar, Confusion, & Aromatherapy (though I messed the latter).
3) Listing things down also means I can put a reminder for myself that I need to check these things: eg, check if these subs are legal, or if Golduck knows any speed-boosting moves.
4) Reading & writing these are fun >.<

A few things I learnt from this match:
1) Uproar is a good move against Sleep.
2) Dread is broken; I should use it more.
3) Toxic actually stacks up really fast, must be wary of that.
4) Quite a few substitution legalities & techniques (Thanks TMan, Keriel, and ofc...Fort)
5) READ AND CHECK EVERY SINGLE THING, EVEN YOU YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHAT IT DOES
6) And many more I probably forgot (need to make separate notes for those :p)

Also, I guess I should also thank Lou; without his intervention, my Caly-S would not have been able to use the combos.

My English and vocab aren't really that good, plus I wrote everything that just crossed my brain, and didn't really try to phrase my sentences. I could've made better orders and decisions, which could probably mean people might find these notes weird. Apologies for that. You seem to have reached the end of these notes.
