Project Monotype Secret Santa 2025

all requests have been sent out. If you did not receive a DM from either myself or Ethereal Sword saying who your giftee is and the team they want is, PLEASE LET US KNOW ASAP! We are looking forward to seeing all of the teams posted, thank you for participating!

Manan999 You asked for offensive poison, and your wish is my command.

https://pokepast.es/9fcf26c0823de729

The team is fairly straightforward. Set screens and maybe rocks with glimmora, maybe memento or preserve it for a round two of screens and start trying to sweep with your guys. With unburden sneasler you really are picking what walls or answers you unfortunately. I was seeing a lot of fighting so I went with acrobatics/dire claw/CC/SD but you can try and fit fire punch or throat chop in there for ghosts and steel birds. He’s jolly because otherwise you are outsped by oger without unburden but adamant is an option.

Revavroom has also been surprisingly effective as a sweeper with screens and a balloon. Turns out having a better dragon dance and a serviceable attack stat is pretty good if you’re behind screens.

Specs Moth is a bit boring but i felt like something needed to have some oomph without a bunch of setup.

Overqwil is another sweeper but i do find myself using him less as a sweeper and more as a tool to double in my other threats on their switch. Its a psychic immunity and does okay damage and intimidate can allow it or your other guys to set up or just survive and trade hits a bit easier.

Glowking has full spdef evs and that may be concerning to someone who desired offense until you look at its set. That bulk is only there so you can nasty plot and start blasting, bro. Unfortunately glowking has some serious 4mss like sneasler. You wish you could have it all but you just can’t. I experimented with some movesets but this is what i landed on. You can mess around with slack off, tbolt and focus miss but this is just where I landed.

A couple replays showing the team doing its thing:

:teary_eyed: this is exactly what I wanted. I had tried to build an offensive poison but ended up always falling into the trap of defensive toxapex + amuk core.

This looks fresh and can really work too. Thanks.

:iron-crown: :archaludon: :gholdengo: :iron treads: :skarmory: :Heatran:

https://pokepast.es/7bbb8a07513414ee
This is a team meant to capitalize on the strengths of Iron Crown with a Thunder Wave Spam + Hazard Stack
Archaludon and skarmory set the hazards meant to facilitate the sweep of Iron crown(or its teammates if necessary)
Heatran is there to stop volcarona from sweeping on the spot
Gholdengo is there to help Archaludon spread paralysis and gholdengo doubles as a rapid spin and defog blocker
Iron Treads is the fastest scarfer steel has access to,and speed control is very necessary on the off chance you're facing Electric,Plus Rapid Spin is always helpful.(allthough rapid spin can be substituted for Knock off if you have trouble with ghost types)

Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas

Alright so this is a Smissmas present for one SeedotSwaggy and that is:
"Steel Balance with Klefki (Preferably not Screens)"
Which looks like this: https://pokepast.es/5be6213b87c618a4
Being blunt, what the fuck. Its Klefki, its entire things is screens BS. Good sir, how am I meant to not run HO with the HO mon?
So I had to focus on what Klefki does have which is the following:
Functional bulk: while not great its worthwhile enough to use.
Fairy-typing: What it says on the tin, making it a Dark resist on a type that normally doesn't pack one which gives us a good check to Knock Off users
Good support movepool: Having tools such as Spikes, Thunder Wave, Screens if I needed them, Iron Defense, and Calm Mind could lead to two different gamepaths.
I could either run Demon Keys, a set of Iron Defense, Calm Mind, Magnet Rise, and Draining Kiss which gives me a mon that is meant to try and bully Dark and Fighting really well. The problem is Demon Keys isn't really good at bullying Dark and Fighting thanks to both types having several tools that shut Klefki down hard like Sacred Sword users such as Gallade and Samurott-H, Crit spam from Urshifu-R, Whirlwind support from Ting-Lu and stuffing me up real early with threats like Encore Sableye or Switcheroo Sneasler. So I didn't bother, instead I went with this set:

:SV/Klefki:

Klefki @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draining Kiss
- Foul Play
- Spikes
- Thunder Wave

This set is honestly, similar to screens but we're running Draining Kiss and Thunder Wave over Screens to fufill the criteria. Honestly Klefki wasn't that bad as this did open it up for some nice support, notably Thunder Wave Support for Gholdengo isn't bad and can be used to slow down a number of breakers like Dragapult and Iron Valiant and open up Hex much easier.
The problem is, Klefki is still Klefki and lacks good bulk, especially on the special side, but still physically as well, so I would need two more mons to patch this up.

:SV/Heatran:

Next up would be the immunity core for Steel. And to start of us off, I give you my most recent Analysis for a Steel mon.
View attachment 794124
But outside of that, I choose bulky tran for 2 reasons.
A. We needed a specially defensive mon somewhere and I like Heatran a lot for this role.
B. Lava Plume burn fishing which would work well with another one of our immunity core I thought. Turns out it didn't really, but it was still nice to have and it did serve its role well in a fair few games often sponging hits valiantly.

:SV/Corviknight:

But I still need a secondary physical wall, and that is where the bird of choice comes in, normally Skarmory thanks to Spikes, we already have Spikes covered, so Corviknight came out to play. I personally like Corviknight on Steel as it gives the type a pivot which is normally lacks. And without the need to worry about Spikes and Thunder Wave Spam to deter setup, I also don't need Whirlwind as much, which allowed for three attacks + Roost on my bulky bird. Honestly solid times were had all around with this.

:SV/Gholdengo:

Originally when I was drafting out the team at work on my phone, I was wondering what Ghold to run, and I originally wanted to run the TWave Nasty Plot variant as Klefki + it could spread paralysis constantly leaving Hex is a highly powered state, however I realized I needed damage right away, so I debated using Nasty Plot + Air Balloon but a thought came to me, why not run Specs?
And so Specs I ran, and oh god it was disgusting, being able to just slam out Make It Rain, then slam it out straight again was honestly disgusting, but highly effective. Hex was Choosen over trick to pair with the multiple formes of Status I had on the team at this point however, it wasn't clicked particularly often and I feel like I would of preformed better with Thunderbolt in this slot to more reliably deal with the Water-types that gave me hell.

Finally to round out the team, two much more standard teammates
:SV/Archaludon:

Not really most different from standard Scarf Archaludon, I choose TWave to pair well with Ghold which did have some usage in a few games, but overall was rarely clicked and could of honestly been a different move. Foul Play probably to better deal with the Ogerpon formes or Body Press to hurt special walls as I found out I was really clicking TWave all that often on Archa.

:SV/Iron treads:

I got nothin' this is just Iron Treads. It did treads things.

The team overall peaked on the alt Smissmas Stalking at 1457.
Now on the one hand, I could of gotten this to 1500 at somepoint.
On the other hand, its taking all the restraint in the world to not commit arson.
Cause man, ladder pisses me off. I'm already not a fan of Steel overall, I've never really enjoyed using it outside of the Scarf Eruption tran team Neko gave me for NDM.
But Ladder tested me man, having to deal with a forcast of the undead and rain was not great in the 1400s and was a constant mess and finally ending with Stall Water into a max speed EQ + CC Great Tusk lead on fighting, which I was not expecting CC, cause if your running EQ + CC, why aren't you using Headlong Rush + CC, are you deranged?
It made me lose my marbles.
So I went to my happy place, and played Poison, you guys don't understand how happy AMuk made me just watching it slowly drain the life out of some Ghost and Dragon players, oh it felt so good and put a smile on my face, and my face alone.

Anyway enough of the tangent, here are the few relevant replays that shows how this team can work when your not dealing with heal on Earth:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2500776310 Vs Ghost (Ghost wasn't entirely doomed, but it required me to lock in a fair bit and with constant spam, I was dealing with some teams that caused a lot of issues.)
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2501347624-4dc6ig1xvoavqhinjkdwecsw0m1osnypw Vs Dark
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2501349856-pcvlbxq4jujm23mjxdfatoin7ykdh00pw Vs Dragon (More so giving what Klefki's main job is in Dragon than it being a good game)
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2501361727-mnmmh7swbbol4rhpgb3oom4vs04a6avpw Vs Fighting (Klefki bullying Sneasler, crit did matter but the TWave was the main thing I needed as it stopped Unburden from fully popping off as otherwise it outsped and removed my entire team)

MattandMello asked for a Reuniclus Psychic

:slowking: :reuniclus: :hoopa-unbound: :iron crown: :iron boulder: :latias:

The main premise behind this team is using AV Reuni to soak up the special hits that psychic and your sweepers struggle with (gren, flutter mane to a degree, tornadus, kyurem) and allowing your iron crown or boulder to position endgames. Band hoopa is a great breaker on psychic and this team, as it synergizes well with the slow pivoting provided by slowking. Reuni runs thunder to do meaningful damage into corviknight, which is otherwise very difficult for this psychic team to break. Your aim with this team will be able to chip the crown or boulder check, and position yourself in an endgame where they clean up. Healing wish latias synergizes well with the latter, allowing you two chances to activate iron crown weakness policy for sweeping potential.

A couple of ladder replays that showcases the ideas around the team:
vs Flying: (shows why thunder reuni does good stuff)

Have fun and happy holidays

Pengairxan (Delph rank mon for a Fox rank type) asked to build him a Delphox Psychic team. :delphox:

https://pokepast.es/01c5b71255a4fe41
My idea for Delphox was to capitalize on the fact that you can on paper win steel if you land Focus Blast and Fire Blast and ignore the fact +2 focus blast can't 0HKO Goodra-H (and there is a scarf). Grass knot is here to help water and ground MUs a little bit but could be Psyshock to beat Volcarona or Dazzling Gleam or whatever. Tbh in 20 test games, the mon have been the first sac in 14.
Since Psychic is an awful type to play with, I've decided to go for a screens team with Meowstic :meowstic: hoping Delphox to tank a hit (no). Indeedee :indeedee: is here to hope not being sweep by Lokix or Bisharp and give a ghost immunity + healing wish Hatterene (you want to win).
Hatterene :hatterene: is the real star of the team behind screens. I play modest to reach some ko at +1 or +2. It is also here to win dark and dragon with trick room and have some kind of hazard management.
Hoopa-U :hoopa-unbound: is here to help bringing a bit of special tankiness while wallbreaking.
Bronzong :bronzong: allows to setup your own stealth rock and also to have another wincondition

This is a replay where it has be useful !!!

bonus : since psychic choose what it looses to in the builder, this is also another bonus build more balanced this time featuring this incredibly designed mon https://pokepast.es/c0f18e2988e3e881

Hello RoyalReloaded, I am your secret santa and I built your unviable request of a Dark team with no Meowscarada that includes a Weavile.

:weavile::mandibuzz::greninja::hoopa-unbound::ting-lu::lokix:
I am not going to lie, this was actually a pretty fun team to build and play with, even though half of the team is choice locked. Weavile does great into the Flying and Dragon matchups, being able to 2HKO most Pokemon, however on Flying teams Corviknight and Skarmory could be a problem. Ting-Lu fixes that by denying Flying teams the ability to remove entry hazards with fast Taunt Ting-Lu, this paired with Ruination and Stealth Rocks gives it a pretty good matchup against other hazard setters in the tier. Greninja checks a few key threats in the tier, like Volcarona. Its 116 Attack and Rock Slide allows it to OHKO the bulky variants, while Sludge Wave is used to keep Hatterene and the Ogerpon's in check. Like Mandibuzz, Greninja also has U-turn as pivoting momentum is pretty crucial for this team. Specs Hoopa-U is a crazy wallbreaker, being able to 2HKO pretty much the entire tier as long as the Pokemon its facing is slower or is unable to KO it. Lokix is the final member of the team, it is a Swords Dance sweeper with Tinted Lens and being Adamant and getting a Life Orb boost, this thing can easily take control of the game if its setup at the right time. Also if Fighting is giving you trouble, which it wasn't fun in any games I played you can probably give Greninja Extrasensory over Sludge Wave since Weavile and Mandibuzz should be able to check most Ogerpon's and Specs Hoopa-U can deal a ton of damage even to +1 Hatterene.

This one is for Pr1nce0fAllSaiyans who requested any electric team. So naturally, I had a bit of fun with it:

https://pokepast.es/98e529150e081e87

The idea of the team is to enable Bellibolt as best as possible, and a make a bulkier style of electric work. The speed EVs are to outrun 0 investment ursaluna.

The star is Bellibolt himself, who has all around good bulk and can constantly heal itself with charge-boosted parabolic charges. Soak enables you to even heal off on resists or immunities, and also lets you toxic steel and poison types.

Next is zapdos, who started as an offensive pivot, but eventually converged back into the subroost sample set. He's the team special tank, and with pressure and sub, can exploit bellibolt's toxic very well. It can even outlast defensive mons.

Rotom is the second ground immunity, physically defensive on this one. It's a fairly standard set, but does its job well, and completely bullies fighting teams.

Sandy Shocks is also a classic set, but rocks and strong special attacks are quite nice to have.

Iron Hands is the big breaker of the team, and does its job really well, with its ridiculous bulk and boltbeam.

Scarf Pawmot is surprisingly effective as a revenge killer and provides Knock Off. Its other attacks overlapping with Hands is not really an issue since they fit very different roles.

The team was all around quite consistent, getting me to 1450 before facing any sort of resistance, despite electric's... subpar record. The only glaring issue is that Hatterene kinda wins on the spot.

almost forgot to add some replays:

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2502338273

This team is for TheMaverrick, you asked for a ghost team with a physical hisuian zoroark... Sorry this took a little bit, I kept going over iterations until I had one that was consistent and less gimmicky, which is kinda hard because hisuian zoroark is kinda gimmicky but ANYWAY I managed to get to 1300 on an alt with this team (then promptly dropped to like 1180 but you get it)

https://pokepast.es/dd551ff0bf9f56d9

The idea I had with this team is to make it bulky enough so that it could aptly support hisuian zoroark and his shenanigans, but also offensive enough that he would actually be useful, as as a team gets more and more bulky, disruption becomes worse and worse against an opposing team, so I made a bulky offese/balance status spam ghost team to support the zoroark

Zoroark is the one that makes the opposing team want to kill themselves, the set has a choice scarf and setup moves to best try to mind game the opponent, scarf is to invalidate tanks and take lefties or some other item that a tank wants. And swords dance is partially because ive always wanted to see drapult have swords dance and poltergeist, but also because this is a very specially oriented team, so you can suprise them with a swprds dance on one of the five special attackers and sweep, especially if the physical tanks are gone. It also works as a simple revenge killer with scarf, but its worse for that. And its a really good cleaner

Gholdengo is a pretty standard bulky set but its really useful for wallbreaking, never underestimate how much a make it rain will do, you'll always be wrong, yeah a lot of immediate power, and since this is a status spam team, I got t-wave on it.

Pecharunt is a pretty standard special defensive bulky pivot set, its just really useful to get the less bulky mons in safely and allow then do do things

Dirge is tank will-o-wisp unaware go brr

Sinischa is a sweeper, or moreso a crit-me-not sweeper, it has a lot of healing potential with strength sap and also matcha gotcha, but with an iron defense, especially against teams that like to abuse knock off against you, they will be tanked and used as setup fodder. Its good because you can also use zoroark with it to enable it, making it so that a certain counter cannot counter it.

Dragapult... GOD dragapult, I say this in the most endearing way possible, but how in the hell is it this broken, its a lot of things, its a revenge killer, its a breaker, its a cleaner, its a fast pivot, we love our staples

Overall this was a really fun team to build, sorry if its not what you were expecting, I just found this to be the most consistent

uhh replays!!!

Beat a dark team!
He kinda sucked, but it was definitely partially because mandibuzz had a scarf... any yeeah, have fun with the team!

yo, crow crumbs you asked for a "fighting with slither wing," so this is what I came up with.
:slither wing::iron valiant::iron hands::gallade::sneasler::urshifu-rapid-strike:
https://pokepast.es/196d5b24631345ad

Slither Wing @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Morning Sun
- Will-O-Wisp
- First Impression
- U-turn
When I looked at this things movepool I saw quite a few options, bulky bulk up, flame charge, banded / scarf, life orb but the moves that stuck out the most to me were morning sun and will-o-wisp. With a fully defensive set and minus speed, slither wing has two things that most mons on fighting don't: longevity and slow pivoting. Also it brings a valuable ground resistance, which is helpful in quite a number of matchups.

The rest of the team has mostly standard sets, so i'll go through them quickly:
Valiant: Pretty standard specs, its one of the abusers to slithers slow pivot in order to get in safely multiple times per game (could do shadow ball > aura sphere but I think either is fine)
Hands: Standard sd setup as another fatter guy that can do well vs teams that don't hit it hard, but I'm using roseli berry over shuca since this team actually has a consistent ground switchin
Gallade: the default special switchin, leaf blade > shadow sneak because psychic grass owns stall
Sneasler: some speed control here, honestly haven't been too impressed by it, but in some matchups its quite nice. I think this definitely could be changed for something else, but speed control is always nice + dire claw hax.
Urshifu: Ditto to valiant, just clicks moves and tries to use slither wing to do it

Before I made this team, i had to ask myself. Is this user on the nice list or naughty list, and after further research I have concluded that Rio Vidal you are so past the naughty list that you will have to make do with this chopped dusty musty crusty fighting team that has zero percent chance of winning any games.

Without further ado, I present to you...

BELLY DRUM BOUTTA CATCH THESE HANDS HANDS FIGHTING

:iron-hands: :iron-valiant: :urshifu: :lilligant-hisui: :sneasler: :great-tusk:

Honestly the only thing I could think of is running it with screens + other sweepers, its pretty self explanatory and I am very much looking forward to you running it in a tournament. It's easy to pilot, you kind of auto win into a few types but also auto lose into some as well lmao.

I tested it out and honestly it did perform well: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9monotype-2502430349?p2

All jokes aside you been a homie for a very long time now, much love always and hope you have a slay christmas and a house down boots new year, don't forget to get an aura cleanse and renew your chakras. (plz dont infract me im shy irl)

It seems christmas came 6 days early for Thing 2 this year. A little elf told me that you were looking for a Fairy team for the holidays. After some extreme research and nearly three different adjustments to this team I will present you with the secret santa gift you were wanting. With that I introduce you to:

SLOW PIVOT PRIMARINA FAIRY
:sv/primarina:

:pmd/flutter-mane: :pmd/primarina: :pmd/azumarill: :pmd/iron-valiant: :pmd/hatterene: :pmd/klefki:
(link is embedded with the images above.)

Team description: This team provides several wallbreaking capabilities with Choice Band Azumarill and Iron Valiant. I opted for Shadow Sneak to have a form of priority against pests like Dragapult, Flutter Mane, relatively speaking any ghost that already outspeeds and threatens. Your bread and butter special attacker is Flutter Mane with Hatterene in the back with Calm Mind setup and Trick Room to turn that speed around. This team is more offensive oriented and you will need to play with a calmer pace. Primarina acts as a damage sponge with Torrent at low health to get a pick off with a boosted surf while also being a slow Flip Turn.

TLDR: I do NOT have any replays for this team as during testing I was struggling on which set on Primarina to toss in.

Hope you enjoy and have a great holiday! :)
