Scarlet and Violet NeverUsed Secret Santa

A tradition across Smogon (that we haven't done in NU since 2024... yeah we are back on track), welcome to Secret Santa 2025: SV NU Edition! It's the holiday season, and giving and receiving gifts is a big part of the holidays. We're embracing that here with Secret Santa!

In case this is your first time hearing of this project, Secret Santa acts as an anonymous exchange of gifts, where you give a gift to a random person, and you receive a gift from another person. In NU's Secret Santa, it will work (on paper) identically to that of a teambuilding workshop (such as in the NU Teambuilding Lab or the NU Bazaar). Each participant will send myself a DM on Smogon or a DM on Discord @ bernardocosta1313 with a specific Pokemon or core of Pokemon in mind for your gift. Every "gift" request will be assigned to a participant, and you will have until the deadline to build a team with the assigned Pokemon or core. Once the deadline has passed for building, each request will be sent to the person who requested it.

General Rules for NU Secret Santa
  • Post "in" or some sort of relevant message to indicate that you want to participate in Secret Santa
  • Given the deadline (see the giant text at the bottom of the post), if the team cannot be completed during the time frame, we advise that you don't sign up for Secret Santa. Failure to abide by the deadline will lead to you being disqualified from the event for future renditions, which we would hate to see happen.
  • As tempting as it may be, sharing what you submitted or received ruins the fun of the project, so don't do that either
  • Once you complete the build and it's confirmed by Ren or I in PMs, post it to the thread @ing the person who you were assigned with the Pokepaste of the team and an explanation for the build!

  • Also, to add something new this year, we highly encourage everyone to participate in a "guessing game!" Before you post your team and write your thoughts, let's try describing the person you got. Are they an old gens player? Are they known for something specific in the community? Are they a good friend of yours? Anything goes! For example: "My Secret Santa (the person you were assigned to) is someone who's been really active in the community since the SS days, and have been making a name for themselves lately as a player and contributor... Coincidently as soon as they started being active for more than 3 months every year. They have a cult following for their pet, and a certain gif that might very well be the Smogon moment of the year. That's right, it's Pokeslice!" (from there you would post the team + thoughts using hide tags) This is completely optional, and you're free to just post the team, but if you have something to say about the person then we highly encourage you do!

Submission Guidelines
  • Submit your cores mine Smogon PMs or on Discord (contact info for that is above). This should be done before the signup deadline.
  • For Pokemon submissions / cores (maximum of 3 mons), it is preferred that it be kept viable by NU standards, but if a niche / unmon is requested, we don't mind. Please review the VR if you have any concerns
  • We do ever so slightly prefer cores are over individual Pokemon, unless one of the Pokemon is known hard to build around or not common within the NU metagame. This rule is pretty fluid and will work on a case-by-case basis, and won't be super tightly enforced, but just as a general heads-up.
  • Specific build style for a more individually tailored team (balance, hyper-offense, etc) can also be noted when submitting your Pokemon / cores
  • If you want to have the Pokemon in your request have a specific set (along with a specific Tera type), please mention that in the submission. The more specific you are, the smoother the process goes for everyone involved.

Final notes
  • Feel free to sign up even if you're new to the tier! If you do end up in a creative block or are struggling with teambuilding, Ren and I will help out to the best of our abilities.
  • You can change your request before the deadline. Notify me (in this case both, not one or the other) of this change in the PM.
  • Have fun!

Deadline to sign up will be December 15th (12/15) @ 11:59 gmt -5 (EST)
Deadline for building will be December 24th (12/24) @ 11:59 gmt -5 (EST)

im in

It's almost Christmas so the request I had was obviously... a rain team
The player that requested that is a new NU talent, he likes Diplomacy the game about conquering and negotiating. And he called Kilo outside Rain blind. If you guess it is Dead by Daylight
I can relate to hurricanes misses so here's your kilo life orb rain team : https://pokepast.es/bfc4ce701ee3c077

This is a classic rain team with bascu/qwil as sweepers. With kilo lo imposed i had to use some sort of removal, i choosed tsar av to be able to tank some hits while giving a nice way to pressure opposing vaporeons if not too unlucky. At the end of the day it's a rain team so it has a lot of bad mus but if you load against no real water resist it's fun for sure.

(Bonus) I have seen people using this cuno team I made so I thought I could share it as well : https://pokepast.es/3d8269742212a593
and another one that i have unfortunately never used in scl : https://pokepast.es/11a18819aa78425c

Enjoy the teams and the hollidays !

You requested an orthworm stall team. I'm not a particularly big fan of stall in this meta, much less using orthworm, but I gave it a shot and heres the outcome.

:orthworm: :vaporeon: :gligar: :brambleghast: :incineroar: :slowbro galar:

:orthworm: The requested mon to build around, theres one thing that orthworm does well. Walling the ever loving hell out of Flygon. Spikes allows the worm to make consistent progress, body press+heavy slam allows orthworm to not be a completely sitting duck into things (well, besides into bascu and chandy that is), and rest gives it an option to recover its hp without needing wish. Tera Ghost allows Orthworm to not only be a pretty effective spinblocker against tsareena, but also allows it to ignore the fighting type attacks aimed at it. Ev spread is to never get 3HKO'd by munki psychic from full with lefties, with the rest dumped into defense.
:vaporeon: The partner to orthworm, spdef vapo can check a wide array of special attackers. The set is mostly standard, with the only standouts being haze to make sure vaporeon can 1v1 opponents even if its in a last mon scenario, and tera dragon to absolutely brutalise a lot of sun teams while also checking non tera blast raikous effectively.
:gligar: Gligar is the main knock absorber of the team, and its also able to check a good amount of pokemon such flamigo and scyther. Pretty standard set, gligar is rocks because its probably going to be sent out more then orthworm.
:brambleghast: We got the loocas set here, but defensive bramble is pretty useful to allow the team to check a but ton of shit like wauros, kilo etc. Since we have hazards elsewhere, we can afford leech+night shade, which can output good damage to most foes. Sap keeps bramble healthy as well, while rapid spin can help the teammates that lack boots here, allowing it to beat opposing spikestack structures. Tera dark allows brambleghast to completely wall most cm guno sets (aside from the rare air slash, but just ff from that).
:incineroar: Incineroar is here to check chandy mostly, but also helps deal with mons such meloetta and munki in a pinch. Rest talk can keep incin healthy over the course of the game, while roar can allow it to phase out setup sweepers to rack up spikes chip. Tera grass can allow incin to resist the many water and ground type attacks in the tier, though tera normal I did use in a decent bit of testing to check those cm hex chandy's you see around.
:slowbro galar: Finally, we have glowbro. Glowbro is the main wincon of the team while helping check stuff such as munki, flamigo, fauros etc. ID+BP allows glowbro to pretty effectively beat opposing setup sweepers, with it also endgaming really well. Psychic hits the poisons that usually wall it for great damage. Tera fairy here allows glowbro to wall scrafty effectively and thus threaten it a vast majority of the time.

ho ho ho merry christmas rule
while u did request :appletun: you did not give me further guidance, your first mistake. so now u can say hello to the new tier defining wallbreaker specs appletun.
https://pokepast.es/bca26801dc7cae55

:appletun:
while i initially deciding on what apple set to run i wasnt quite sure. i thought about going super goofy with a starf berry ripen recycle set but that gave less than pleasant results after testing it out. i then noticed that the apple actually has a passable spa stat of 100. we've already seen specs woch b4 which only has 95, so y not the apple. its signature apple acid is actually quite nice as an option for specs, preventing opponents from coming in and recovering up as the dmg they take just keeps increasing (i considered metronome asw for this reason), kinda like a scuffed psynoise. in addition draco and leaf storm serve as nukes, and tb ground is there to patch up some coverage issues vs steels (fire would be better for zong but the apple is suprisingly bulky in regards to its ability to trade so the more apt defensive typing of ground was chosen).

:incineroar:
a perk of apple is that it is a breaker that dominates vaporeon, being able to eat scalds and threaten back an ohko (even vs spdef, 252+ SpA Choice Specs Appletun Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Vaporeon: 434-512 (93.5 - 110.3%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO). given this sd incin serves as a mon which can take advantage of the team being good into vapo already, while also giving a nice switch vs chandy.

:inteleon:
intel builds on the idea of taking advantage of apples mu vs vapo, with it bringing in vapo, allowing for a free u-turn into a good entry for apple. as apple was already a specs breaker i elected for scarf, a pretty fun set thats seen a bit of use in the past. the speed tier when scarfed is absurd allowing for revenge killing the majority of offensive threats, some of the funner examples being it outspeeding unburden ada hitmonlee and unburden ada graf if it has the standard bulk. while scarf doesnt nuke mons the way specs does hydro still does respectable dmg, and with tera can threaten to clean endgames.

:brambleghast:
given the team has some questionable choices so far i wanted to add smthing that is undeniably good, spike stacking. i lowk love defensive bramble atm with it blocking for itself and having fun tech moves it has, tho this particular one lacks leech seed as the team needed removal.

:duraludon:
dural is just a good stuff mon which can be slapped p much where ever and be useful. set is spdef as solo incin as spdef piece is not a great look. just generally gives the team a bit of extra bulk, asw as rocks and some steel overload vibes when paired with apple.

:scream tail:
the team was feeling quite slow but also not very bulky which was a difficult pair of issues to deal with, thxfully however scream does just that. wish pass pairs nicely with incin, dural, and even apple to let it trade into mons multiple times. fastish encore is also just a very nice piece to deal with slow bs which made scream appealing.

overall team is not good kinda interesting, and actually somewhat fun if u can find joy in appletun getting value offensively.

ladder replays testing out the team. apple doesnt get super value in all of them but it has a few higlights.

Well it's Secret Santa time!!! But first let's make it a little guessing game:

My Secret Santa I've built it for is old, loves gacha games also the shaft that comes with it and is really active in the NU community. I didn't know how many tours they've won in NU but apparently they won 3 of them (gotta love showing achievements on the profile).

If you still didn't guess here's easier clues:

A German woman wanted to do my Secret Santa, they also got demoted once + that became some sort of meme and is also fr*nch.

And yes my Secret Santa is none other than Agent 0-7
Tuthur (pardonne moi je suis parti chercher loin les anecdotes)

So I got requested a "kobo" team (I thought it was a website but ok) and it seems to be a rain team so there you have it!
https://pokepast.es/6f2be732e1622ccf
The team on itself is pretty straightforward so I don't think it needs more explanation to it, and yes playing with the nicknames on is mandatory otherwise the team won't work.

I hope you like the team and Merry Christmas y'all!
