Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): This enthusiast of pink salamanders has poked around in SS OU for a few years at this point and now wants to branch out into other tiers, especially GSC OU since it has been described as a tier with a fair amount of similarities with my home tier.

Torchic has accepted me as his apprentice on QQ (I can provide screenshots if need be), so I would like to be assigned to him if possible.

Are you able to you use Discord: Yes, but QQ would probably be more convenient for my tutor.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): The majority of my competitive Pokemon experience has been inside the Monotype format. I've been around for a little over 8 years, and I've competed in team tours, seasonal tournaments, MWP, etc. I would consider myself a seasoned player in that tier specifically, but I'm interesting in learning others, so I come to LC. I've played a tiny bit of SM LC, and I enjoyed that.

This year, I began playing Little Cup in SV, ORAS, and SM. I have a decent understanding of the game, but I’m still not where I want to be. I’m looking to refine my game sense and improve my overall decision-making in Little Cup, especially when it comes to precise predictions, doubles, and more aggressive sequencing.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Peaked high 1700s ladder but never hit 1800, mainly play in revtours where my highest placement is ro8 in some of the smaller ones. My tournament play I feel is very inconsistent overall and I struggle with game plans when playing as or against certain archetypes. I would like to improve on my theory, teambuilding and endgame.

Overall really excited and have been building stuff a good bit and got the ladder badge a few times in past days (today) but looking moreso on really learning everything.. so im losing games accepting defeat but need to expedite the process. I need to be fluent like Storm Zone! C0LD MF Snow.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I created my Smogon account in 2018, but really started playing in 2022. I started out playing UU but have branched out to other tiers such as RU, NU and PU. In the most recent NUFL I went 1-4 including 0-4 in SV NU, which increased my interest in the tier. I feel like my play is too inconsistent to beat top players and I want to learn the NU meta as well as how to teambuild effectively.

I really enjoy building framework and strategies and what not to recognize patterns and solve the problems we face during team building . Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I have topped the NDUU ladder recently and am interested in learning more lower tier formats. I'm especially curious about formats with terastalization as it is a mechanic I haven't touched much since I used to main random battles and be top 500 or more there on an older account. I am flexible with scheduling and happy to learn from stronger players than myself.

Welcome to Battling 101! If you're seeking a tutor for SV Monotype, you are in the right place. Please read all the rules carefully and fill out every part of the application.

RULES​

  • You must be able to access Discord, or whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
  • You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown! even if you are being tutored in a cartridge format such as Battle Spot or VGC.
  • You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
    • This is not a strict requirement meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential Tutees.
  • You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for the format you sign-up for; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand.
  • You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
  • Use the Tutee Talk forum to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). These are no longer mandatory, but if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is a complete jackass, COMPLAIN HERE. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the Battling 101 Staff; everything is confidential.
  • Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be moved to the Inactive Posts thread, and can be returned back to this thread by request.
  • Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from B101. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!
