Welcome to the FIRST UM edition of this showdown between the USA and the World. Which one will be the best? It's time to find out.​
  • General tournament rules and regulations can be found here.
  • If metagame changes occur during the middle of a round, they will take effect in the subsequent round.
  • Battles must take place on either Smogtours or Pokemon Showdown!
  • Replays are required. Any win post without replays will not be counted

  • On Substitution:
    • If you are unable to schedule with your opponent, please let your managers know ASAP so they can communicate that to me or the other team's managers for a potential substitute.
    • When making a substitution, please inform the host team, the managers of the opposing team, and all of the players affected by the substitute to ensure that everyone is made aware.
    • Keep in mind once a player is subbed out, they cannot be subbed back.
    • Substitutions will not be allowed in tiebreak series unless both teams agree (or TDs enforce double sub). We will be reluctant to give activity wins to those who are clearly fishing for them.

  • On Sportsmanship:
    • Note the sportsmanship infraction may be used liberally in this showdown, and any unsportsmanlike conduct on the forums, in the tours or UM discord will be grounds for an infraction.
    • Remember, this is an event to enjoy.
Deadlines:

All battles are to be completed by Sunday, January 4th, 2025 at 11:59 PM EST (GMT-5).
Battles that are not completed will be reviewed for activity and have a winner declared accordingly. If both parties are at fault, the game will simply not count in deciding final standing.

Reminder for all USA players to schedule not with GMT, but with some inconvenient, convoluted unit of measurement only us 'Muricans could make up.

Example:
Hi RADU,

I'm currently 125 miles, 3.5 football fields, and 67 inches away north from the great Statue of Liberty. It is currently 2:56am where i am, with the moon precisely 225,623 miles, or exactly 100 plane trips from California to Florida, above me and my fellow rootin tootin, patriotic star-spangled, skibidi liberty, cowboy-hat-tipping muricans. If possible, I'd like to play 2 hours before the New York City's Time Sqaure Ball Drop Ceremony initial start, but could also do 3 hours after the Lions vs Vikings game. In the rare case I'm late, I'll shoot you a reminder via a personalized TikTok reel with a Family Guy short and Subway Surfers playing in the background for maximum attention span retention.

As of this message, I am located roughly 92 miles east-north-east of the Statue of Liberty, plus an additional seven basketball courts and 14 centimeters for precision. The local time is 1:43 a.m. The moon is currently hanging about 252,088 miles overhead, which I calculate to be approximately 113 nonstop flights from Seattle to Miami, illuminating a "peaceful" nation of Americans.
My preferred availability would be roughly 90 minutes before the start of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade rerun airing schedule. Alternatively, I can also make time about four hours after the conclusion of the Knicks vs. Celtics matchup, if that works better.
In the unlikely event that I am delayed, I will send a reminder in the form of a custom TikTok reel featuring Minecraft parkour footage beneath a random podcast clip, optimized for maximum algorithmic visibility and minimal cognitive effort.
