[SET COMMENTS]
  • Mega Gardevoir functions as a bulky special attacker and potential win condition with high powered Pixilate-boosted spread moves. This set can be tailored in two directions: Calm Mind, which turns Gardevoir's already powerful Hyper Voice into oppressive sweeping pressure, or Trick Room, which flips matchups by enabling Gardevoir and its partners to outpace faster offensive teams. Gardevoir's versatility stems from its ability to threaten immediate damage, provide speed control, or function as a setup sweeper, depending on the team's needs. With proper team support, Mega Gardevoir is one of the most dangerous threats in XY DOU.
  • Pixilate-boosted Hyper Voice provides extremely strong spread damage and hits both opponents simultaneously, letting Gardevoir snowball field advantage or clean up weakened teams.
  • Psyshock prevents Mega Gardevoir from being ignored by Assault Vest Volcanion or Poison-types like Amoonguss and Gengar.
  • Calm Mind turns Mega Gardevoir into a win condition. Once it finds a free turn to boost, its high Special Attack and decent bulk make it difficult to remove, and boosted Hyper Voice quickly overwhelms opposing teams.
  • Trick Room is an alternative option for teams wanting reliable speed control. Gardevoir is a great Trick Room user thanks to its good bulk and the ability to immediately threaten foes after setting.
  • Protect provides standard utility to avoid double targets, stall for field conditions like Tailwind or Trick Room, and allow partners to reposition safely. It is especially important for Calm Mind sets to swap in redirectors or Fake Out support to maintain Gardevoir's sweeping potential.
  • The Speed investment allows Gardevoir to outpace neutral natured base 70s like Bisharp. 56 Special Attack EVs guarantee a 2HKO on [PLACEHOLDER, ask zee] with the remaining EVs dumped into HP and Defense to improve Gardevoir's bulk.
  • Trace is a situationally useful ability before mega evolution, letting Gardevoir Intimidate opposing Landorus-T or snag an opposing Thundurus's Prankster. Telepathy lets Gardevoir ignore allied Landorus-T Earthquake before mega evolving.
  • Amoonguss, Blastoise, and Scrafty provide redirection and Fake Out support to give Gardevoir safe turns to Calm Mind and click Hyper Voice. Landorus, Landorus-T, and Volcanion handle Steel-types that otherwise wall its STAB attacks. Trick Room variants work especially well with slower partners that benefit from Gardevoir’s speed control, including the aforementioned Amoonguss and Scrafty as well as Tyranitar.
  • Look for safe opportunities to Calm Mind with redirectors or into passive foes. Use Protect often to manage field states and let partners pick off Gardevoir’s checks.

Gardevoir's versatility stems from its ability to threaten immediate damage, provide speed control, or function as a setup sweeper, depending on the team's needs. With proper team support, Mega Gardevoir is one of the most dangerous threats in XY DOU. This is more of a set summary and could be listed separately as such.
  • Pixilate-boosted Hyper Voice provides extremely strong spread damage and hits both opponents simultaneously, letting Gardevoir snowball field advantage or clean up weakened teams.
  • Psyshock provides a single-target STAB attack and (Not getting blocked by wide guard is important) prevents Mega Gardevoir from being stonewalled by Assault Vest users like Volcanion Hyper Voice covers all of the other common Av users in Conk, Hariyama, Kyurem-Black and Scrafty, leaving volcanion as more of a specific target for Psyshock or Poison-types like Amoonguss and Gengar.

  • Trace is a situationally useful ability before mega evolution, letting Gardevoir Intimidate opposing Landorus-T Water Absorb for Volcanion steam eruption, Download Boosts off Genesect/Porygon or stealing swift swim off rain attackers potentially worth mentioning or snag an opposing Thundurus's Prankster. Telepathy lets Gardevoir ignore allied Landorus-T Earthquake before mega evolving.

Trick Room variants work especially well with slower partners that benefit from Gardevoir’s speed control, including the aforementioned Amoonguss and Scrafty as well as Tyranitar. Potentially worth separating this point into different parts, Fake out/redirection enabling setup, intimidate covering Garde's poor physical bulk, and complementary type coverage from grounds/fires are separate enough aspects that align into scrafty, lando-t and the redirectors. Decompressing this bullet into specific pokemon/tools could be more readable
  • Look for safe opportunities to Calm Mind with redirectors or into passive foes. Use Protect often to manage field states and let partners pick off Gardevoir’s checks.
  • Should include a proper bullet point about common counterplay to Gardevoir, such as spread damage whittling it down around its redirectors since it has no recovery and Choice Band Genesect Extreme Speed circumventing redirection support and hitting Gardevoir extremely hard while not being able to hit back too hard and Wide Guard Aegislash completely halting its gameplan
