Nvm I figured it out. Seems like it does need tough claws unfortunately especially with mega golisopod and magearna currently so dominant. If it weren't for those two it wouldn't be as necessary but it can't one shot without it.

Rather unfortunate, having matches come down to a coin flip if you hit stone edge or not sucks. Guess that's just the downside of a pokemon like this (when are you going to reduce the amount of RNG gamefreak? Way to much randomness in a semi competitive game lol)

Rock slide might be better tbh. It doesn't seem like there's that many relavent threats that you do with stone edge that you can't with slide. Though edge crit chance is nice for clef

Rather than banning magerna, just banning Shift Gear would be sufficient. That way she will still be good without breaking the game
Shift gear is the bane of all problems, she has no business outspeeding the Z Megas after one shift gear and gaining 3 stat boosts. And she conveniently resists most priority moves so everything barely dents her which she just heals with drain kiss.
Ban SHIFT GEAR PLEASE
The move is not even remotely problematic on the other users (not counting genesect, which is broken regardless of SG), it`s always a mage ban over a shift gear ban. Also SG isn`t the only speed boosting move on mage, so any set that isn`t specifically SG +stored power is entirely unaffected.

Does anyone that is good with Calcs know how many relavent pokemon that barbaracle can one shot with tough claws that he wouldn't be able to without it? I've had so many matches that lose because of a missed stone edge that I very likely would have won if I landed it, and stone edge covers a lot of the meta. I honestly am curious if no guard is the better ability for it at this point
No Guard is not the better ability for it. Sorry for the missed though, it's rough

Bruh you have balls to actually bring moves like stone edge to battle, I just bring Rock Slide and even miss those.
I still pussy out of using Heatran because it's signature move is only 75% accuracy even though it's dominant in this meta. I don't want to be luck reliant to climb the ladder.
Same reason I completely stopped using Surperior in my Gen 9 OU team, she has made me lose so many matches missing it's 90% acc leaf storms I unconsciously stopped using it and just fought with the other 5 mons even though the team was build around her. Later just replaced her with Rillaboom and never looked back.

Yeah, Mag is good as fuck without Stored Power, Stored Power is just easily its best set. Shift Gear ban makes zero sense.

Mag's gotta go, like Genesect I don't think it's necessarily supremely broken, but it's also not very fun to play against lol. It's just on so many teams because it's really easy to slap on as an offensive core, and it switches into so much shit because Steel/Fairy is a fucked up typing. Then, once it does switch in, it can basically just nuclear bomb anything it sees, and it's just a fucking nuisance. I ultimately think the meta will be healthier if it goes, but also, I don't think it's like, "omg this thing's gotta go its ruining the tier". It's fine enough as-is, but I think for the sake of everybody's sanity, we gotta put the robot back in the storage closet.

Now, granted, this makes it sound like I'm saying "not fun = ban", which isn't the case at all. It's more just that while Mag isn't necessarily a broken mon running the tier, it's certainly one that warps games around it, and it does so just off the rip. There's not really that much you can do about it except hard call it out.

also, mag isn't fun to play WITH.
like if you run mag you don't even need to try to beat the opponents team, you just need to beat heatran/sableye or whatever, switch mag in on something, set up, click buttons, win.
it's brainless af

Don’t worry, the complaints about Magearna are reasonable and pretty universal.
And honestly Mag shouldn’t have been allowed to begin with.
Hopefully it gets banned before 2026.

Yeah, basically. This is how I felt using Genesect, it was insanely easy to just use it without thinking much. Mag is very much the same in where you kinda just do the bare minimum and it works really well, and while it's got more counters than Genesect did, I still feel like it's too much. Heatran is pretty common and probably the best check to it, but even then lmfao

Also have been using Bax recently and he needs to leave immediately.
I often send him out, think “ok let me set up once to soften my opponent’s team up so my teammates can sweep”, then Bax just wins the game on the spot.

This is more undeniable proof that banning Genesect was a mistake.

When Genesect was around, not a single person was complaining about Bax. This is because both Band and Scarf Genesect acted as a very vital form of speed control on balance and bulky offense against threats like Bax, like Darkrai, like Mega Lucario. You couldn't just "send out Bax, set up and win on the spot". Not even a week later and the same people complaining about Genesect are now complaining about Bax, just as I predicted, and I'm sure after Bax is banned, ya'll will be complaining about Mega Chomp or Dragonite, or something else because "you can just set up on the spot and win" when we had counterplay options to both these threats in Bax Ice Shard / Scarf Genesect Ice Beam to neutralize these threats.

Bans in a metagame are not just done in a vacuum- they have noticeable ramifications and lead to previously balanced Pokemon being pushed into brokenness. I personally enjoy a lot of the interactions in the current metagame between threats like Magearna, Excadrill, Darkrai, Garchomp, etc. Some Pokemon are easier to win with than others - this is true in all metagames. The previous meta had an even greater issue with this, where mons like Clef, Garchomp, and Skarm were on 90% of teams. When you take away options from this metagames, teams only get more stale, options to deal with threats becomes more narrow, and more unneeded bans are forced to take place. We cant be rushing to ban the next fad of the week.

No one was complaining about Baxcalibur because everyone was distracted by how busted Genesect was.
It’s like stubbing your toe while having cancer. It sucks stubbing your toe, but cancer is lowkey worse.

It will be good without stored power but it does not even learn stored power in ZA! We're talking about banning it in part due to a move it doesn't even learn. And if that's how the fanfic is going to be run like okay but when we get an actual champions or gen 10 meta, if mage doesn't have stored power, I hope there aren't conversations about how we had magearna and it was broken and so it needs kept Uber lol. But there will be. I know there will be.

I'm generally not a fan of how this pet mod is being run with nat dex movesets but I really worry people will take these experiences forward into champions / gen 10.

This would have been much more realistic with only obtainable moves. Hazards could have just been banned instead of giving ridiculous move pools. I seem alone in this feeling though so I'll shut up from here.

I mean, I don't understand the problem here, really? I do agree with "yeah, natdex moves was a bit much" especially since if it wasn't the case I wouldn't have to see the Raichu X Galvanize argument day in and day out but I'd genuinely argue Mag is really good w/o Stored Power. Banworthy, probably not, but this is the bed we have to lay in, and I can understand the team's intent in making Natdex moves available - especially pre-DLC. Banning hazards definitely could've been the better outcome, but I think it does make more sense to go for a more "expansive" movelist, especially for some Pokemon. It just had a bit of unintended side effects, but given that a lot of this is just "hey, what if" to begin with, it is what it is at the end of the day. I dunno.

People are gonna test Mag again, and if it doesn't have Stored Power, we'll see how power creep advances, how early meta advances, etc.. For all we know, Mag could drop into Gen 10 and get severely powercrept. If people bring up ZA OU, then it'll be completely irrelevant, because this is a different meta.

I'd like to say "I kinda doubt that" but people tend to be silly so lmfao. That being said, I think it'll be vastly different - mostly due to the difference in abilities and also just the wider pool of options generally speaking. We barely know anything about Champions ATM other than it'll have every mechanic, but the mixture of that and also what formats it'll be running is pretty up in the air. For all we know, they could be running something close to Natdex where Megas and Teras are available in the same format or whatever.

This is more undeniable proof that banning Genesect was a mistake.
Okay seriously where were you people when this thing wasn't banned. I'm serious. Nobody was talking about Genesect like this before it got banned. Everybody was saying it was a bit much. Has Team Plasma hired a bunch of shooters? What happened.

Been having a lot of fun with the new megas, but I think several need a buff. Meta is in a decent spot overall, but the lack of viable megas and mons overall makes it difficult to come up with different teams, and I think buffing bad megas will give us a much more fun experience.

I'm generally choosing abilities that make these mons competitively viable. How much they fit for each pokemon I'm still considering, but it's a smaller factor.

:Chesnaught: Grassy Surge: Turns this into a legit threat as it has grassy glide while also enabling potential grassy terrain shenanigans with teams.
:Meganium: Fluffy: Giving it more bulk turns into a scary attacker which also doesn't get scared out as much. Also it looks fluffy
:Crabominable: Thick Fat: This mon is pretty bad right now and ice scales doesn't help it much. Resisting fire I think will help it a good bit
:Clefable: Pranster: Right now there's no reasons to using mega clef. Prankster would be a great buff to it, and I don't think it would be too strong given it's now rocks weak and uses up your mega slot
:Drampa: Adapability: Let's just make this guy a nuke

A lot more that need to be improved ofc

:Crabominable: Thick Fat: This mon is pretty bad right now and ice scales doesn't help it much. Resisting fire I think will help it a good bit
Thick Fat only halve Fire damage, not make it full resisted. So every Special Fire attack would be dealing the same damage. The only damage you’re reducing that Ice Scales wouldn’t also reduce is physical fire moves.
Then again…
252 Atk Choice Band Scovillain Flare Blitz vs. +1 240 HP / 4 Def Thick Fat Crabominable-Mega in Sun: 218-260 (55.1 - 65.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Should just give Crabominable Gorilla Tactics and just make it a pure trick room breaker. I can't see it being good with anything else.
Crabominable has been consistently successful with the Ice Scales ability in tournaments and ladder games. This is something that one would notice if they actually played the metagame

People underestimate how good Fur Coat and Ice Scales can be.
On Crab, you effectively have 232 Special Defense. Even with 0 investment into special bulk, you tank a Modest Nihil Light from Mega Zyagrde
252+ SpA Zygarde-Mega Nihil Light (200 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Ice Scales Crabominable-Mega: 250-295 (74.6 - 88%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Zygarde-Mega Nihil Light vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Ice Scales Crabominable-Mega: 182-215 (45.7 - 54%) -- 46.9% chance to 2HKO
I even saw people underestimate Fur Coat on showdown, thinking "surviving +1 Baxcalibur is useless".

I play the ladder and metagame quite a bit. Have played enough to reach top 2. From using it, and facing it, Crabominable almost never does anything. I think the problem with it is that it takes too long to setup, and once setup, usually the opponent has good positioning to deal with it. Giving it a boosting ability to make it immediately threatening is the best way to buff it imo.

Haven't played TOO much with it, but based on a few games with a VERY shitty team I built - I think Mega Meganium is in a perfectly fine position rn. I think because of Magearna and Mega Heatran + lower Clefable usage, most Dark-types like Krookodile and Garchomp are dropping Random poison coverage in favor of other attacks, making Mega Meganium much more reliable as a check to them. Max Physically defensive is really good into Annihilape - which is not tanking even uninvested Gleams too well. Its also one of the better Electric checks in general. Flower Veil is super nice since it gives it amazing coverage into random Parting Shotters / Status spreaders like Rotom-W, Cofagrigus, and a few other misc effects like Luster Purge / Mystical Fire Stat drops, T-Wave from, clef, etc - all of which it can take advantage of with a well timed Encore, or to continue dishing out the pain with Gleam / Earth Power.

That said I wouldn't be opposed to Fluffy either, since that could perhaps make it stronger into offensive teams + allow it to run more mixed bulk EV spreads to handle special mons like Latios, would make it even more effective into Annihilape, and could honestly let it even take Poison coverage from stuff like Krook / Garchomp, and may even allow it to handle stuff like
Excadrill in a pinch if flinch hax doesn't screw it over. That said, losing the Parting Shot and Status immunity would sting for sure, so I'm a bit mixed on whether I would want this change or not.

Giving Mega Meganium 2 x4 Weaknesses isn't such a great prospect.
0 SpA Indeedee-F Mystical Fire vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Fluffy Meganium-Mega: 184-220 (50.5 - 60.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Flash Fire Litwick Incinerate vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Fluffy Meganium-Mega: 372-436 (102.1 - 119.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
I mean, surely there must be a better ability that reduces damage for more moves and doesn't provide a major downside?
