Other Tier 35 Pokes-- January 2026 (happy new year!)

Following Ocean's post, I figured I'd post the team I used to win the first room tour of Day 2 of the January 2026 meta.

Sharknado (Sharpedo) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Speed Boost
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Crunch
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab

Sash Sharpedo is a great insurance and anti-cheese Pokémon, being able to live any hit once and kill back. With Protect its able to guarantee two speed boosts and outspeed the scarfers of the tier. Crunch is great stab and hits Typhlosion-Hisui as well as the Psychics on the tier, Close Combat for Cobalion, and Poison Jab for Hatterene.

On a list (Typhlosion-Hisui) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Frisk
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Eruption
- Flamethrower
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast

Scarf Typhlosion-Hisui is the best revenge killer, doing constant damage with Eruption and Shadow Ball. Flamethrower is a good option if it is chipped and Focus Blast lets it hit resists and immunities such as Tyrantrum, Type:Null, and Carracosta. Its always your number one Pokémon against Sun and Psychic Terrain, and doubles as an early game breaker or late game sweeper.

CradiLOAT (Cradily) @ Power Herb
Ability: Storm Drain
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Rock
EVs: 80 Def / 196 SpA / 232 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rock Polish
- Giga Drain
- Earth Power
- Meteor Beam

This slot would realistically be better with Hatterene or Celebi, but I just wanted to use Cradily and something that is good into Washtom. Storm Drain lets it get the boost from Hydro Pump, it doesn't care about getting burned by Will-O-Wisp, Defog from Washtom gives Cradily a free turn to Meteor Beam or Rock Polish. After one rock polish it becomes the faster Pokémon in the tier barring any scarfers, it outspeeds Cobalion and even has a roll (6.3%) to OHKO 0HP, as many run 252 Def and 252+ Spe, with +1 Earth Power. It lives a Body Press from max defense Cobalion. And just does a generally good job of breaking if you can get it up.

overqwil.png

QwilliamSpikespear (Overqwil) @ Salac Berry
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 112 HP / 48 Atk / 96 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Throat Chop
- Gunk Shot
- Reversal

Overqwil is quite versatile this meta. Initially I had this as SD, stabs, and spike support so that it can still progress the game if Cobalion is in and healthy. However, with Sharpedo needing Defog support from Washtom to keep its sash and the fact that many Cobalions run Chople Berry, I opted for this Reversal Salac Berry set. Even if Reversal does 1 damage, it can cause Cobalion to use up its Chople Berry for Sharpedo to kill with CC, and this Overqwil is specifically ev'd to always live an Eruption from 252 SpA Typhlosion-Hisui at full HP, triggering Salac Berry, which in return causes it to outspeed the entire meta and do a lot of damage even OHKO-ing 252Def Cobalion with 150bp Reversal after a Swords Dance. This set is what ultimately won me finals of the room tour.

Honse (Cobalion) @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 Def / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Body Press
- Taunt
- Volt Switch

Just a standard Cobalion. Stealth Rock to force progress and chip opposing teams. Typhlosion-Hisui and Sharpedo appreciate the Stealth Rocks support, putting things in range of their attacks and opposing Typhlosion-Hisui and Sharpedo hate it as it lowers Eruption damage, limits their switch ins, and breaks potential Sash. 252Def for maximum Body Press damage for all the physical attackers of the meta. Taunt so as to stop hazards and weather setting, Heavy Slam is a good option too but the team does well enough into Hatterene in my experience. Volt Switch for momentum. Leftovers lets Cobalion always come in on Tyrantrum, even on Stealth Rocks, as +1 Adamant Close Combat does 84.2%-99%. Stealth Rocks do 6.125% to Cobalion and Leftovers heals 6.25%. And Body Press always OHKOs back after the defense drop from CC.

479-2.png

Waterboy (Rotom-Wash) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 HP / 64 Def / 192 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Hydro Pump
- Defog
- Will-O-Wisp
- Volt Switch

Rotom-Wash feels like the glue on every team in the meta. I prefer Sitrus Berry on this mixed defense set as its feels much more relevant than leftovers and lets Rotom-Wash turn 2HKOs into 3HKOs. Especially since this set lacks pain split. The ev's are to live a Leaf Storm from 252 SpA Celebi. With Sitrus you can take 4 Shadow Balls from Typhlosion-Hisui. Will-O-Wisp to neuter physical attackers. Defog to get rid of hazards to support Sharpedo and Typhlosion-Hisui. Min-speed to keep up momentum with slow Volt Switch.

This biggest threat to the team is Celebi. And if I were to tweak the team to play in ladder and/or future tours I would change Will-O-Wisp on Washtom to Signal Beam to hit Celebi and Leftovers to Chople Berry on Cobalion because it's already pretty much the sole check to physical attackers, and without Wisp support from Washtom, it needs all the help it can get. Cradily to Hatterene or Celebi.

I won two team tours with this team, and I want to share this with yall, this team is so peak.

:sv/sharpedo: :sv/tyrantrum: :sv/orbeetle: :sv/medicham: :sv/Typhlosion-Hisui: :sv/houndstone:

:sharpedo: :life orb:
THE GOAT (Sharpedo) @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Crunch
- Close Combat
- Psychic Fangs

Sharpedo was the Pokemon I wanted to use, and so I went with a classic 3 Attacks + Protect. Close Combat is neccessary for Cobalion and Psychic Fangs is neccessary for Fezandipiti. Very strong mon, but you need to play it very well.

:tyrantrum: :loaded dice:
Tyrantrum @ Loaded Dice
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
Shiny: Yes
- Dragon Dance
- Scale Shot
- Head Smash
- Close Combat

Tyrantrum is a very scary Pokemon, and with Dragon Dance it gets elevated to amazing levels. Scale Shot + Loaded Dice is amazing, giving you such a strong, somewhat consistent option, and Close Combat is great for Cobalion.

:orbeetle: :lum berry:
Orbeetle @ Lum Berry
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
Shiny: Yes
- Skill Swap
- Sticky Web
- Bug Buzz
- Magic Coat

This guy looks weird, but with Max HP and Max SpDef, you live any hit from Vivillion and have a favored chance to live Eruption from Scarf Typhlosion. Skill Swap is crucial versus Hatterene, and Magic Coat is cool tech for opposing Rocks/Taunt. Lum Berry is cool versus Sleep Powder leads.

:medicham: :life orb:
Medicham @ Life Orb
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
Shiny: Yes
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt
- Fire Punch
- Poison Jab

Adamant Medicham kills EVERYONE. Fire Punch is neccessary versus Shedinja and Poison Jab hits Hatterene and Celebi for stronger, with a lethal chance to poison.

:typhlosion-hisui: :leftovers:
Typhlosion-Hisui @ Leftovers
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
Shiny: Yes
- Calm Mind
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Substitute

Best mon of the entire meta, so...

Typlosion serves as Sun insurance, as well as just being a very strong Calm Minder. With Sleep Talk it can ensure that the dishonest Vivillion doesn't throttle everything, especially if your opponent is a dishonest Sash User.

:houndstone: :weakness policy:
Houndstone @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Fluffy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Poltergeist
- Double-Edge
- Shadow Sneak
- Destiny Bond

Houndstone is extremely strong, as there aren't really good Poltergeist switchins. With Double-Edge, it can beat Cincinno thanks to its weakness policy, and with Shadow Sneak it can pick off unsuspecting Typlosions. Destiny Bond is amazing against Pokemon you simply cannot oneshot.
Cool team. I'll show you mine (which recently got me one win):

Hype Slow Son (Typhlosion-Hisui) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Blaze
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Eruption
- Infernal Parade
- Focus Blast
- Flamethrower
A pretty standard H-Typh set. Ran Blaze for extra power upon being on last legs, with Flamethrower for consistient power. Infernal Parade allows for Ghost STAB and finishing statused foes, while threatening burns, and Focus Blast is for coverage.

Cincinnati (Cinccino) @ Protective Pads
Ability: Skill Link
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Tidy Up
- Tail Slap
- Bullet Seed
- Rock Blast
Bascially, the idea was for a setup sweeper. The Protective Pads allow for it to get multiple hits on Rocky Helmet targets (and Gabite) without dying.

Sharp Edo (Sharpedo) @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Poison Fang
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Psychic Fangs
This set runs four offensive moves. I was originally running Rough Skin, but that was suboptimal. Thus, I went with Speed Boost. Poison Fang is for Grass and Fairy-types, and potential bad poison, Waterfall is for flinch fishing, and Psychic Fangs is for Fighting-types.

Celery (Celebi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 252 HP / 220 SpD / 36 Spe
Calm Nature
- Toxic
- Leech Seed
- U-turn
- Future Sight
I originally ran Substitute over Toxic. However, Substitute and U-Turn work in 2 spearate directions, so I went with Toxic/Leech Seed to deal increasing damage over time. Future Sight adds some extra pressure.

Civilian (Vivillon) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Compound Eyes
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sleep Powder
- Quiver Dance
- Hurricane
- Bug Buzz
Pretty standard set. Originally ran Covert Cloak, but Focus Sash makes this set better at being a sleep lead that sleeps with Sleep Powder, sets up with Quiver Dance, then makes progress with Bug Buzz and Hurricane confusion.

Tyrant's Rum (Tyrantrum) @ Blunder Policy
Ability: Rock Head
Tera Type: Rock
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Head Smash
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Fang
This set is a setup sweeper. I ran Blunder Policy to turn Head Smash's poor accuracy into an advantage. If Tyrantrum misses, it's no big deal, as it gets up to +2.

Time for my (somewhat) monthly off-meta tech spotlight!

Today we will be looking at :Type Null:

Unlike past spotlights, this mon isn't a gimmick and is a genuinely amazing pokemon that is simply underutilized right now. At the time of writing, it is sitting at a usage below 10% putting it outside of the top 20 pokemon in the month. Type: Null is a fantastic defensive piece and utility mon. It has incredible bulk thank to Eviolite allowing it to defensively answer Tyrantrum and Sharpedo which a lot of teams struggle with. While it can't kill Tyrantrum back, it can come in and click Thunder Wave then U-turn out into something to ko it as even after twave it can still be set up to move second. This slow U-turn ability also allows it to work great alongside threats that struggle to find openings to enter the field such as Typhlosion-Hisui, Vivillon, and Tyrantrum. that ability to remain slower than a lot of the meta after a Thunder Wave is one of the main appeals. Its Normal typing also forces mindgames with opposing Typhlosion-Hisui as in combination with Rotom-Wash it makes the core very hard to break. It is also able to deny Sticky Web with Magic Coat as a bonus to all of that. Overall, it's a great slow pivot that spreads Thunder Wave in a meta where that might as well be half of a KO.

Here's a sample set:
Type: Null @ Eviolite
Ability: Battle Armor
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Return
- U-turn
- Magic Coat
- Thunder Wave
