First ever post after spending 1 day deep in the trenches of low elo OU (1200-1300)
I'm not writing this post expecting a sudden jump in elo (my bum ass will stay in the trenches of low elo for a while) but i'd like to have you guys' opinion on this team I hand crafted myself. I lack skills but It'd be nice if I used the proper tools you know, maybe it'd give me a slight edge compared to before :).
They say an idiot with a katana will always be better than an idiot with a butter knife right?
Here's the team !!!
ooooooooooooooo (Uxie) @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- U-turn
LEAD NUMBER ONE !!!! If I see no hazard remover/bullshit cinderace I'm throwing the rocks and then I'm setting up both walls (or the opposite, depending on my mood and vibes) to create a safe switch in for the strong dudes.
Thanks to his nice bulk (or maybe people don't know how to kill him), I can set screens multiple times a game when I get a safe opportunity to switch into him.
Other than that he's pretty much useless offensively but that's not his job so that's OKAY. His tera type is psychic but i'll be so real with you guys, I don't think i'll use the tera once in my entire lifetime.
bang (Greninja-Bond) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Battle Bond
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Swords Dance
- Liquidation
- Ice Punch
HYPE MOMENTS AND AURA IN THE POKEMON ANIME (if goatfernape didn't exist).
I love this guy so much (when he's alive). The battle bond ability is the reason why I'm using him. Physical sweeper set with Gunk shot to annihilate fairy-types (probably a huge problem since it's the only move in my team that can keep them in check).
Liquidation and Ice punch for coverage and STAB, and swords dance if I already used battle bond. Life orb so he can hit stronger cuz i'm a musclehead idiot and tera water in case he needs to fight bug, fairy or fighting types
bang bang (Deoxys-Speed) @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 200 Atk / 252 SpA / 56 Spe
Naive Nature
- Psycho Boost
- Superpower
- Ice Beam
- Knock Off
LEAD NUMBER TWO BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR SO QUICK NEVER OUTSPED (I lied my ass off, I somehow forget choice-scarf is a popular item sometimes).
Life orb to hit ever harder, Mixed attacker split because the strategy with this pokemon is to get a safe switch in to revenge kill, preferably while the walls are still up.
Ice beam for coverage, Psycho boost for braindead firepower and once my SPATK has been lowered, we switch to physical moves like superpower or knock off (Psycho boost into knock off is usually how I keep my BIGGEST OPP in check : Ceruledge. That prevents him from using his bullshit weak armor ability)
When I feel like it (usually when I see hazards remover or this ******* cinderace, I lead with him to deal a decent amount of damage to some of the opponent's mons.
(Tera Dark to keep this guy safe from dark pokemons + knock off STAB)
fshhhhhh (Great Tusk) @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Headlong Rush
- Close Combat
- Ice Spinner
- Rapid Spin
This guy dropped from number 1 to number 1... He must be so devastated. Anyway here's the most unoriginal pokemon of the team, he's here to be a big bulky dude with enough firepower and enough speed to get a kill on an annoying pokemon, hence the ATK SPE spread.
Close combat and Headlong rush STAB if I need an important kill. If he doesn't get the kill, I RETIRE AND I FORFEIT. Ice spinner cuz I love ice coverage. RAPID SPIN I LOVE YOU... The amount of times cinderace or hatterene fucked me up(I have 1 digit IQ). You saved me a lot of times Great Tusk.
The tera here is irrelevant since I keep the tera for my win condition, the last pokemon on that list (hope I created a bit of hype for him)
?? (Iron Valiant) @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Moonblast
- Close Combat
- Thunderbolt
- Encore
THE FASTEST POKEMON IN MY TEAM thanks to the booster energy. Tera fairy in case I need my moonblast to hit even harder. Close combat for stab and Physical firepower, thunderbolt for coverage (my only move against water type mons btw... might be a problem) and ENCOOOOORE. Encore is fun to play if I come against an annoying wall or someone that sets themselves up. That allows me to either mindlessly spam moves or to do a smart switch (1% chance)
Iron Valiant is my only option if my braindead self hit my biggest opp ceruledge and gave him a speed boost, cuz ceruledge usually outspeeds deoxys-s and probably has a OHKA move.
hey (Dragonite) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Multiscale
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
AND FINALLY HERE'S MY GOAT, THE WIN CONDITION, IF I DON'T SWEEP, I DON'T WIN.
You guys have probably seen a similar set 20 million times. Dragonite Heavy duty boots if there's hazards on the field. Dragon Dance or I retire. Earthquake and fire punch for physical coverage and OBVIOUSLY... THE NORMALPILL with the tera normal and extreme speed. Thanks to that coverage, it can hit most pokemons with at least neutral effectiveness. If he's on 1V1 against kingambit (given that Dragonite is full hp) Multiscale helps with tanking whatever shrödinger bullshit kingambit is about to do (Earthquake usually keeps him in check)
Once again that SPE ATK split cuz I like when pokemons are fast and hit hard since I have 2 working braincells.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Team tldr would be probably be fast hit hard, if I don't OHKO I don't win.
ONE MAJOR FLAW OF THE TEAM (Or maybe I just lack skill) is RILLABOOM... If I see one in the team preview I RETIRE. This isn't a rivalry between us, Rillaboom always beats my ass. This would probably be resolved if I had a priority move on one of these quick dudes, but I don't really know. Should I really change a moveset just for one pokemon? Well, I guess asking these kind of questions are a part of learning competitive pokemon.
Here are some replays (don't get it twisted, I probably only saved replays where I thought I played good. You're sadly not going to see the games where I played like a bum) :
Game where everything went as planned
Dangerous situations but I think it went well
Got swept by ceruledge that's why it got the biggest opp title
Got greedy with dragonite and lost because of that
Naive player (me) gets ahead of himself and faces a toxic wall in Gliscor and awkwardly laughs of fear after getting decimated by COUNTER
The screens helps this naive player climb the DRAGONITE DRAGON DANCE 3X MOUNTAIN and almost trips after climbing it but the old reliable Great Tusk is there for him
Lokix broke my bum ass heart (yup that's another loss)
For those who have read everything up to there, thanks and I love y'all a lot.
DISCLAIMER !!!!!!!!!! The way I play these sets are probably not optimal so if you're a beginner like me PLEASE do not copy my team (this is me helping you guys, not gatekeeping my bum ass team)
Thanks in advance for any help or advice given !! I really appreciate it and I will take into account everything that was said.
And sorry if it was too long but I tried explaining my low IQ thought process to the best of my ability so that any analysis or help would be easier to give.
