[SET]
Specially Defensive (Iron Treads) @ Leftovers
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Careful Nature
IVs: 16 Def
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
[SET COMMENTS]
Thanks to its ability to resist both of Miraidon’s STAB moves and reliably 2HKO it with Earthquake, as well as its access to Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin, Iron Treads is able to carve out a solid niche as a utility Pokemon. Knock Off allows Iron Treads to cripple foes by removing important items from potential defensive switch-ins, such as Heavy-Duty Boots from Ho-Oh and Alomomola and Leftovers From Ting-Lu. Knock Off also allows Iron Treads to punish Ghost-types, primarily Calyrex-S, that attempt to switch in to block Rapid Spin. Iron Treads runs maximum special bulk investment to check threats such as Miraidon lacking Overheat and Eternatus lacking Fire-type coverage. Lowering its Defense IVs to 16 gives Iron Treads a Special Defense boost instead of a Defense boost from Quark Drive; this allows it to check Miraidon more easily. Tera Normal enables Iron Treads to check Calyrex-S in a pinch if its checks have been weakened.
Iron Treads faces competition for a teamslot with Ting-Lu, which is generally bulkier and is also able to check Calyrex-S. Thus, Iron Treads works best on teams that already have solid options against Calyrex-S and would appreciate the entry hazard removal that it provides. Iron Treads struggles to deal with Koraidon; hence, partners that can deal with it, such as Ho-Oh, Arceus-Water, Arceus-Fairy, Alomomola, and Skeledirge are greatly appreciated. Iron Treads is also vulnerable to Calyrex-S, so checks such as Arceus, Kingambit, Mandibuzz, and Wo-Chien are a necessity as well. Iron Treads likes teammates that can check Kyogre, which it struggles with, such as Koraidon and Miraidon on offense teams and Clodsire and Blissey on stall teams. Iron Treads also benefits from the support of the previously mentioned Clodsire and Blissey to scout out a potential Overheat from Miraidon and provide the team with a secondary Miraidon check. Iron Treads lacks reliable recovery, so it greatly appreciates the Wish support from Alomomola; in return, the Rapid Spin support provided by Iron Treads allows Alomomola to run items other than Heavy-Duty Boots, such as Leftovers or Rocky Helmet.

Other Options
=============
Iron Treads can run a suicide lead set on hyper offense teams, running Focus Sash with Bulldoze and a more offensive EV spread; however, it is often outclassed by other suicide leads due to only being able to set up Stealth Rock. Volt Switch gives Iron Treads the ability to pivot , but it often struggles to fit this into its moveset. Additionally, Volt Switch can easily be blocked by the many Ground-types in the tier that have no trouble switching in on Iron Treads already, such as Ting-Lu and Arceus-Ground.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Physical Wallbreakers**: Physical attackers such as Koraidon, Zacian-C, Ho-Oh, and Arceus-Ground can threaten to deal massive damage to Iron Treads. Arceus-Ground is particularly notable for being able to switch in and set up freely against it.
**Kyogre**: Kyogre threatens to OHKO Iron Treads with Origin Pulse and Water Spout, although due to its lack of reliable recovery and reliance on its items, its does not prefer to switch into Iron Treads.
**Gliscor**: Once Gliscor has been poisoned by its Toxic Orb, Iron Treads is not able to make progress against it. Gliscor is also able to cripple Iron Treads by removing its Leftovers with Knock Off and can set entry hazards that Iron Treads struggles to remove.
**Defensive Arceus Formes**: Iron Treads struggles to deal meaningful damage against defensive Arceus formes such as Arceus-Water, Arceus-Fairy, and Arceus-Ground, and any meaningful damage it can deal is easily healed off with Recover. Furthermore, these formes are able to cripple Iron Treads with Will-O-Wisp, and Arceus-Water and Arceus-Ground can both deal massive damage with Judgment.
