Hoopa-U is an unparalleled wallbreaker in the metagame, spamming Dark Pulse with few proper resistances, and coverage to patch up what resists in STAB. When it safely enters the battle it usually will force a sack and make immediate progress. Dark Pulse is going to be the attack Choice Specs Hoopa-U clicks most of the time, as it picks up a 2HKO on a majority of the metagame including special walls such as Corviknight and Gastrodon. Psychic allows Hoopa-U to target and OHKO Fighting- and Poison-type Pokemon such as Defensive Great Tusk, Iron Hands, Toxapex, and Okidogi. Psyshock can help break past Calm Mind users such as Primarina, Quiver Dance Defensive Volcarona, Blissey, and also secure the OHKO on Assault Vest Tornadus-T after Stealth Rock damage. Thunderbolt allows Hoopa-U to OHKO Pelipper, Physically Defensive Mandibuzz, Hisuan Samurott if it tries to switch in, and has a chance to OHKO Corviknight after Stealth Rock chip. Focus Blast can 2HKO Dark-types like Ting-Lu and Alolan Muk that can otherwise stomach all of Hoopa-U's attacks, while also being able to 2HKO Hisuan Goodra. 8 EVs in Special Defense allow Hoopa-U to always tank Choice Scarf Flutter Mane's Moonblast from full.

Choice Specs Hoopa-U should be safely brought into battle via U-turn, via Mandibuzz or Meowscarada. Mandibuzz switches into physical threats for Hoopa-U such as Choice Scarf Urshifu-R, Ogerpon-H, and Landorus-T easily Roosting off damage and walling them. Mandibuzz also provides a ton of utility for Hoopa-U in being able to clear hazards with Defog. Choice Scarf Meowscarada like Mandibuzz can safely bring Hoopa-U with U-turn, however it does it differently by forcing a switch into a physical wall that Hoopa-U can break. It can also handle faster threats such as Choice Specs Flutter Mane, Roaring Moon, and Urshifu-R which otherwise OHKO Hoopa-U. Ting-Lu sets Stealth Rock for Hoopa-U, allowing it to OHKO Pokemon such as Corviknight, Assault Vest Tornadus-T, and Archaludon. Additionally it can easily tank Special Attacks such as Choice Scarf Flutter Mane's Moonblast and OHKO it back with Heavy Slam. Choice Specs Greninja can take care of threats such as Non Choice Scarfer variants of Sneasler or Iron Valiant with Extrasensory, Ogerpon-H or Hatterene with Sludge Wave, Ceruledge with Surf, and help it pressure Flying and Dragon teams with Ice Beam. The Spikes that Hisuan Samurott's Ceaseless Edge helps Hoopa-U force progress through the game. Additionally it can break past Pokemon such as Hisuan Goodra and Alolan Muk that can give it trouble, while also helping Hoopa-U apply pressure and win late-game scenarios in the Ghost and Dragon matchups. Alolan Muk can break Fairy-type Pokemon for Hoopa-U such as Primarina and Hatterene, clear Toxic Spikes, and be a general sponge for special attacks.

not including darkrai, because i think its redundant with this set/coverage and will not put shadow ball in the oo even though it ohkos flutter mane. dropping any move for shadow ball just for a poor flutter mane switch in is not worth ever using and other pokemon on dark should be your flutter answer.

Hisuan Goodra is the only non-resist that avoids completely avoids being 2HKO'd by it. (A. this is filler and B. Blissey and Clodsire also avoid a 2HKO granted just barely in Clodsire's case) Psychic allows Hoopa-U to target and OHKO Fighting- and Poison-type Pokemon such as Defensive Great Tusk (It gets the kill on offensive, but I don't want to lose my Hoopa-U to a great Tusk, ya know), Iron Hands, Toxapex, Physically Defensive Clodsire, and Okidogi. Psyshock can help break past Calm Mind users such as Primarina, Quiver Dance Defensive Volcarona, as well as securing the OHKO on Assault Vest Tornadus-T after Stealth Rock damage. Thunderbolt allows Hoopa-U to OHKO Pelipper, Physically Defensive Mandibuzz, Hisuan Samurott if it tries to switch in, and has a chance to OHKO Corviknight after Stealth Rock chip. Meowscarada like Mandibuzz can safely bring Hoopa-U with U-turn, however it does it differently by forcing a switch into a physical wall that Hoopa-U can break. (True, but with the U-turn section from the first paragraph being bought into this one, you should be mentioning that Meow and Mandi are the U-turners, then what they do afterwards) It can also handle faster threats such as Choice Specs Flutter Mane, Roaring Moon, and Urshifu-R which otherwise OHKO Hoopa-U. did this for the most part, keeping rash kommo-o mention as its huge in dark vs dragon, added heatran tho to what timid outpaces. also ogerpon-h +2 cudgel is only a roll with a crit or sun up on mandibuzz so its fine as an example. urshifu-r was changed to choice scarf cuz cb cc is capable of a 2hko
