WIP
Name:
Combat Medic
Description:
This Pokemon functions as a cleric despite having a primarily offensive profile.
Justification:
Most clerics that see competitive use are known for functioning as part of the defensive backbone of their team. Wish passers, heal bell/aromatherapy users, and healing wish/lunar dance supporters are commonly noted for their ability to sponge attacks but do little damage in return. This concept would explore the possibility of a cleric that can not only assist teammates, but also generate forward progress and serve as its own offensive threat.
Questions To Be Answered:
- What defines a Pokemon as a cleric? Specifically, what moves and/or abilities must they possess in order to fulfill this role?
- Why have clerics seen less usage in the current metagame? Is it just a lack of distribution of moves to relevant Pokemon or are there other issues present?
- Under what conditions does a Pokemon classify as its own offensive threat? Does it need the potential for set-up, immediate damage output, or something else?
- How could we incentive using healing moves on an offensive Pokemon that would otherwise prefer to utilize more progress making tools?
Explanation:
SV has seen a noticeable lack of cleric support compared to other generations. We do not see heal bell being utilized on the few Pokemon that have retained the move, healing wish has seen sparse usage in niche contexts, and wishpassing has virtually been monopolized by Alomomola. Reintroducing this lost aspect of competitive Pokemon could drastically change the landscape of the SV metagame. Furthermore, we have never truly explored how an offensive Pokemon could make use of these tools. Astrolotl's concept of "offensive team support" first touched on this idea, but did not extend to HP and status healing. It would be interesting to consider how we can build upon and extend this concept to create perhaps the most unique addition we have seen in the CAP metagame.
