Here yeee Hear meeee
To disclaim this isn't going to be an OM by any means but just a fun little side hustle I love to call this with ZA Monotype. We can host these tours at any given moment if you, YES YOU!, the player would like to indulge in ORAS PART 2!
So today I am bringing you a complex VR of all the
new megas with the returning one's you've all come to love and know.
Again, please read the disclaimer,
THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE AN OM BUT A FUN FORMAT WE CAN HOST FOR ROOM TOURNAMENTS!
These rankings will be categorized in 4 separate categories per type given the information we have on every new mega added: S, A, B, C. (S being excellent, C being not so great but niche.)
Let's begin.
IRYS'S SUPER AWESOME MEGA FANTASTIC VR THREAD FOR BEGINNERS OR PEOPLE CURIOUS ON THE NEW MONS FOR ZA MONOTYPE BLAAH BLAAH
S -
,
(Both have reigned as the best to pick for Bug.)
A -
(Mega),
(Mega) (Golisopod turns it's Water typing into Steel, a more niche bulkier Scizor although slower. Scolipede is a bit stronger now with Speed Boost + Swords Dance pre-mega form given the right opportunity to do so)
B -
(Heracross is a niche Mega for Bug as it's speed stat is outclassed by the aformentioned. Although you can do some heavy damage with skill link coverage of Bullet Seed and Rock Blast while firing off Close Combat's to the max along with Pin Missile's.)
C -
(This has always kind of been a downside to a mega that has so much damage opportunity as a free U-Turn pivot. The issue mainly is that Bug can NOT freely be pivoted in as it used to as there are some stronger powerhouses running around.)
S -
(Mega) ,
(Mega - Z),
(Greninja's new mega brings in a bit more firepower with it's special attack and protean, absol got a feisty new mega with base 151 speed and an even higher attack prior to it's old one which seems very fitting for a meta consistent of many fast pokemon giving it ideally the highest bp knock off it's even had, and Sableye mega is a timeless addition with Magic Bounce)
A -
(Tyranitar Mega has always had a good placement on Dark teams dating back to ORAS days with Sand + Boost to it's sp.def while now having access to Knock Off with Hazards. Sharpedo Mega can be used as a late game cleaner.)
B -
(Mega) (A very bulky addition. Or you can run it with Dragon Dance aside from Bulk Up Bulky set.)
C -
(Mega),
(Malamar is in a very weird predicament. As yes it has the bulk necessary to fire off Superpower's to boost it's attack or Close Combat's to boost both defensive sides, it's main issue lies with having to rely on low speed and rest + sleep talk. Still could be a niche mega given the right teammates. Houndoom get's outclassed tremendously by Greninja, and without access to Drought to boost it's Solar Power it just kind of sits there barely doing much. And regular Absol Mega has always never been seen as a good Mega even with Magic Bounce.)
S -
(Mega Z) ,
(Mega),
,
(We figured already that Dragon would get boosted tremendously once new mega's were added. Mega Garchomp Z is one of the best additions with it's speed stat turning into a FAST 441 with Jolly/Timid + 252. And the coverage and attack stats to back up it's powerful hitting moves. Baxcalibur, although is a bit slower, is still a force to be reckoned with. The Lati Twins are always a solid choice to throw in as you can ideally run both with one being a designated scarf/specs while the other can either run 3 attacks or calm mind tactics.)
A -
(mega),
(Dragonite can be used as a more niche version of the lati twins as it has access to complimentary coverage along with STAB hurricane and roost. Mega Altaria is a bit more outclassed by the aforementioned now due to the exceeding level of power behind all though it still can safely be put in to mirror other dragons.)
B -
(Mega)
(Mega) (Dragalge can be used along side Goodra or in place of Goodra as a specially defensive fat wall with slow Flip Turn, though you lose a lot of power you make up for it with slow hard hitting Poison- moves for Fairy. Tatsugiri is in a weird predicament where it has the power to do a lot of damage while also having to be the necessary setup of a mega. Ideally you'd have a mon that has access to Nasty Plot and a semi-reliable spinner for Dragon. Which is why it will be ranked under B.)
C -
(Mega) (Too slow, yes it has a great coverage of moves but it's just really slow. Unless you want to try to make it work, I wouldn't suggest it.)
S -
(mega),
(Mega) (These two are your new bread and butter. Eelektross gained Hadron Engine as it's new temporary ability which gives terrain while being a very hard hitting volt switch with coverage like Flamethrower Giga Drain and Dragon Pulse to deal heavy damage to Steel, Ground, Water, and Dragon. Zeraora's new mega hits ideally harder but is still a secondary quick cleaner.)
A -
,
(Mega X) (Manetric can still be a very fast volt switch mon for Electric along with Eleki, Overheat is still very good into steel and grass. I placed X Raichu over Y in the sense of Levitate is it's best way to avoid irritating Ground moves while having a "shockingly" good attack stat. Meaning you can probably run Mixed Raichu.)
B -
(Mega Y) (Yes base 160 is a great Spatk stat, however it just does not get necessary KO's on a lot with it's coverage moves. You really would want to use this versus Water or Flying.)
C -
(This really hasn't seen the light of day since ORAS and it barely did that given Manectric outclassed it by miles.)
S -
,
(mega),
(Diancie has always been used as the premier mega for Fairy teams during it's ability to be used with Magic Bounce being a thriving way of not letting hazards be put up. Rocks with Diancie, Spikes with Klefki, and the rest fall into line. Magearna is a new one that seems a bit overpowered. Access to Shift Gear, Calm Mind, and coverage out the wazoo that can quickly snowball games. Mawile finally got let out of it's cage to show that it's still ubers level threatening to this day with Huge Power. Very good S-ranked Megas here.)
A -
(Pixilated hyper voices and stab Psychic moves still make this an A-rated mon. Wisp, Wish, Protect.)
B -
(Mega) (Pre-change to it's abilities it was a force to be reckoned with Substitute + Protect and a free leftovers recovery. Now it has Regenerator which bumped it down a notch. Still a good mon overall if you want a setup s
C -
(mega) (haha Irys talks about clefable yet again. In all seriousness this mon just lacks nothing of importance that the other mega's don't already do besides bulk, thunder wave, and cosmic power.)
S -
,
(mega Z)
(mega),
(Gallade is always your go to superior mega with sharpness along with triple axel to break pesky flyers. Lucario got another mega with a variety of means to work with. Hawlucha is ranked high given it's Flying Stab to break Mirrors and Swords Dance. Medicham was released from ubers heaven down to us again to show us why he is third in command.)
A - :sv/chestnaught: (Very good defensive spikes setter.)
B -
(mega),
(mega) (both are placed here as they are slower and outclassed by the aforementioned but carry decent bulk and great attack power behind them. crabominable has ice scales.)
C -
(mega),
(mega),
(These three are mainly either cheese strategy, or just fodder for moonblasts.)
S -
,
,
(mega) (Classic charizard remains at the top being Fire's best go-to mega to fit on either coin. Heatran is a new mega introduced with earth eater to help a lot versus ground.)
A -
(mega),
(mega),
(scovillain helps a lot versus water team with sun active, Delphox has access to great coverage and nasty plot, and houndoom can utilize Drought.)
B -
(mega),
(mega) (outclassed by charizard forms. They do similarly the same concepts with hard hitting Spatk. These would be filler)
C -
,
(mega) (Both undergo the similarity of being slow hard hitting mon's. If you can pair them well and use them correctly then they would be great assets.)
S -
,
(the bread and butter of flying.)
A -
(mega),
(mega) (Skarmory can be a excellent sweeper with Swords Dance + Weak Armor. Dragonite can be used as a coverage option with Ice Beam and Thunderbolt.)
B -
(bit of a niche special attacker but hey no guard hurricanes are fun)
C -
(mega) (ideally you would really only use this to prep vs Rock / Steel / Normal.)
S -
,
(Sableye is realistically the best for Ghost, Banette can be used on more HO oriented teams.)
A -
(mega) (Snow setter to spam blizzards, access to spikes and status, overall very good versus Dragon and Flying.)
B -
(mega) (Fire / Ghost types are in a bind right now, as Ceruledge outclasses it currently.)
C -
(Slow but hard hitter. Can't find a reason to use it on Ghost currently as you have much faster attack options.)
S -
(Ideally the best mega you can run on Grass.)
A - :sv/chestnaught: (mega),
(mega) (Chestnaught can deal with a tremendous amount of physical attackers, Scovillain can help versus Steel, Ice matchups that Grass ideally would lose quicker.)
B -
,
(Sceptile helps versus Dragon, Abomasnow is a niche screens setter with good ice moves to help vs Flying)
C - :sv/victreebell: (mega),
(mega) (both really are situational.)
S -
(mega),
(Excadrill is this format's prestige mega as it's much more powerful and faster. Garchomp is close second with Sand Force.)
A -
(Sandless Ground's favorite. Phenomenal bulk and setup.)
B -
,
(Not ideal but can be used on sandless-ground for pivot. Camerupt can additionally be used on sandless ground just prep with great support for water immunity.)
C -
(mega) (same with ghost, too slow but hits good.)
S -
(mega),
(mega) (Froslass sets snow with free fire blizzards. Baxcalibur keeps thermal exchange and becomes a threat.)
A -
(mega) (bulkier now, with snow up can become a menace with it's powerful atk stat.)
B -
(good offensive mon with spikes + explosion tactics.)
C -
(snow setter, grass coverage.)
S -
(the star of normal. scrappy + fastest normal type without a scarf.)
A -
,
(mega) (both are great offensive special attackers. Fast, hit hard.)
B -
(defensive fighting check.)
C -
(mega) (slow, doesn't provide great value versus what aforementioned do. Niche dragon check.)
S -
(Poison's best defensive grass type.)
A -
(mega),
(mega) (Both can be used on more offensive oriented teams.)
B -
(mega),
(Great specially defensive mon, free u-turn into defensive mon.. mon!)
C - :sv/victreebell: (mega) (Venusaur outclasses by tons.)
S -
,
,
,
(mega) (Gallade is the premier mega to help vs Dark. Lati twins are solid second in command with access to great coverage options if you wish to run Assault Vest Gallade. Meowstic has access to moonblast now and Terrain. Making it S tier for PsySpam.)
A -
(Mega),
(mega),
(Chimecho can be used as an alternative form of Bronzong with defensive investment and access to levitate and recover. Starmie is essentially the same with medicham as they both hit very hard.)
B -
(mega),
(both essentially do the same, Delphox helps vs Steel and Gardevoir helps vs Dark.)
C -
(mega) (Same as dark, it's tricky to find a spot on this team. Pair it well if you use it. Close Combat Contrary into Mega form just does the trick.)
S -
,
(truly the bread and butter you want to primarily use.)
A -
(mega), (Barbaracle turns into Fighting with access to STAB Close Combat and Shell Smash. A great asset and buff.)
B -
(Aero can pave the fight vs Fighting.)
C -
(mega) (outclassed by aforementioned but a great hazard setter along with overall good coverage vs pesky fairies like Valiant.)
S -
(mega),
,
(mega),
(mega Z) (Heatran carries Earth Eater, Scizor can be a bulky late game cleaner, Magearna can be Trick Room or Setup Sweeper with complimentary coverage, and Mega Z Lucario breaks the Steel Mirror matchup.)
A -
(mega),
,
(mega) (All three great attackers. Skarmory and Mawile are great for Fighting, Excadrill can additionally break the steel mirror matchup and checks heatran.)
B -
(Filter gives it a great means to live super effective hits)
C -
(Aggron can out-do what this does and more. Excadrill outclasses.)
S -
(mega),
(access to battle bond / protean with nasty plot, top tier rain sweeper.)
A -
(mega),
(Pure power with excellent 373 speed at max, mold breaker with Dragon Dance and Taunt.)
B -
,
,
(mega) (speed boost strong jaw, immune to crits so slow setup sweeper, spinner with access to nasty plot though gets outclassed by greninja.)
C -
(mega) (Slow dragon that gets outclassed by Kingdra in rain, and tatsugiri.)
You may have noticed I left
out of both types. There is currently an issue in the coding I believe where it won't allow either type to run it due to it's mega being Fight/Flying. BUT if I WAS to rank it, it would be B on Flying.
