Project SV RU: Next Best Thing (Week 5: Mimikyu) (Submissions Open!)

Elec-ant1234: Week 3 for the Next Best Thing is now open! This week, we're focusing on the polished gem that is Diancie! (RIP Double Dance)

So about that

Diancie @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
Tera Type: Water/Steel/Poison/Dragon/Dark
EVs: 252 HP / 108 Def / 148 SpA
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draining Kiss
- Earth Power
- Iron Defense
- Calm Mind

While the cm market is saturated, Diancie carves out a niche by comfortably double dancing without worrying about stat drops. Bro, reun, and arma could also double dance, but they would lose out recovery or coverage. Plus, fairy and ground hits the tier neutrally or super effectively (zong doesn't exist btw).

148 special attack evs is the miminal investment to 2HKO bro with epower after two cms, which is achievable because Diancie's naturally faster. You also aren't losing out on damage, as you 2HKO sharp, gar, and arma even without max investment. The rest of the evs goes to defense. Couple that with idef, Diancie can take a physical hit to retaliate or set up.

252+ Atk Bisharp Iron Head vs. +2 252 HP / 108 Def Diancie: 184-220 (60.5 - 72.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (OHKO otherwise)

80+ Atk Breloom Seed Bomb vs. +2 252 HP / 108 Def Diancie: 84-102 (27.6 - 33.5%) -- 76.3% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery (2HKO otherwise)

0 Atk Registeel Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. +2 252 HP / 108 Def Diancie: 132-160 (43.4 - 52.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery (25% to OHKO otherwise)

252+ Atk Life Orb Adaptability Crawdaunt Crabhammer vs. +2 252 HP / 108 Def Diancie: 198-234 (65.1 - 76.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (OHKO otherwise; also applys to cb)

252 Atk Life Orb Sheer Force Feraligatr Liquidation vs. +2 252 HP / 108 Def Diancie: 133-159 (43.7 - 52.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery (25% to OHKO otherwise)

Tera water and steel are the obligatory defensive tera types, but tera dragon improves the arma mu. Dark makes it immune to noise, whereas poison blocks toxic, one of few checks against it.

at least use the better card smh

Diancie @ Fairy Feather
Ability: Clear Body
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 88 HP / 252 SpA / 168 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Draining Kiss
- Earth Power
- Moonblast

Fairy Feather Timid (Diancie) @ Fairy Feather
Ability: Clear Body
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 32 HP / 252 SpA / 224 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Draining Kiss
- Earth Power
- Moonblast

this allows you to outspeed 209 and 210 speed mons like adamant crawdaunt or specs goodra

Fairy Feather and max SpA allows you to max out the damage/healing ratio you get from draining kiss over sets running Leftovers and not max SpA, especially when considering Tera Fairy. For example, you heal just as much as what Basc Surf does to you after Tera, and you don't need to CM before hand. We run double STAB as being able to click Moonblast when you don't need the recovery or simply if you need the damage is really really nice. for example, +1 Moonblast has an 80% chance to OHKO Basculegion after rocks for an idea of the damage output.
Other options include Wise Glasses or more defensive alternatives like a resist berry but then you lose out on the uniqueness of the set which is frontloaded damage combined with high sustain.

Once again, thanks everyone who submitted a set! (Canard didn't write a post about his set but brought it up in DMs so I'll include it here) As always, it's time to vote for what YOU think is the Next Best Thing!

Week 4:
Porygon-Z

DiancieVividVoltage79.jpg

Hello everyone and welcome to Week 4 of Next Best Thing, with this week focusing on everyone's favorite (or least favorite) potentially bannable threat, Porygon-Z! With easy access to numerous coverage moves, Tera Blast, and two amazing abilities in Download and Adaptability, it's no wonder PZ is considered too strong by some. However, PZ also has access to some odder moves, like Conversion, some more conventional set up moves, and all sorts of tera shenanigans. As always, YOUR goal this week is to come up with something new and potentially unusual for Porygon-Z, and find out what set is the Next Best Thing!

Additionally, to keep things fresh, between Maushold, Mimikyu, and Mienshao, when you submit your set OR vote I'd like you to also nominate one of these three mons to be the focus of next week!

Porygon-Z @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Expert Belt

Porygon-Z @ Blunder Policy
Ability: Download
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Zap Cannon
- Tera Blast
- Psyshock
- Nasty Plot / Ice beam

I've joked about this set on rucord a lot considering it's just a slot machine of a set; but the idea you double your speed no matter if you miss or hit potential damage while paralyzing while you're at it really entities me.

Personally hate tera blast but it fits really well beating blissy and umbreon so it's slotted in.

Summary
I wanted to build a set based on Tera Blast's weird mechanic to change whether it's a physical or special attack depending on the user's stats. To facilitate this we will use the Download ability. If you get the attack boost, it will be a physical attack (only after tera). If you get the special attack boost if will be a special attack. I also decided to add Nasty Plot to allow for you to change it to a special attack if you so choose. I would recommend pairing this with webs. You can also add whatever last two moves you want, definitely will want something to hit ghosts like Zen or Dark Pulse.

Ninetales is my best friend
Porygon-Z @ Wise Glasses
Ability: Download / Adaptability
Tera Type: Ground / Fighting / Ice / Electric
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature / Modest Nature
- Blizzard
- Tera Blast / Thunderbolt
- Agility
- Nasty Plot

Because I refuse to entertain the idea of physical P-Z nor Conversion, I went with the approach of tailoring a set for specific teammates in mind. I saw Blizzard and Thunder and figured I could do something with that. Considering that Rain already has plenty of much more suitable (and broken) abusers, I went with a Veil team starring Porygon-Z as the special breaker. This means we can run Blizzard as our Ice move and both Agility and Nasty Plot since we have an easier time setting up thanks to Veil, plus Blizzard hits plenty strong so we can forgo a coverage option without kneecapping our firepower. I'm more of a Tera Ground kind of guy but Tera Ice does allow for maximum meme potential, especially if going the Never-Melt-Ice and Modest nature route (and it gets the Def boost from Snow). If running the base set though, Wise Glasses is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT but I completely forgot what calc it's for I didn't save the replay trust me bro

Here's a team I made with this set (tw: bad team)

https://pokepast.es/1403b027d46efd6b
Ninetales-A sets Snow and Veil wow
Sandslash-A spins and outspeeds +2 Torterra under Snow which is HUGE
Eject Button Amoonguss for easier pivoting
Lum Berry Terrakion sets Rocks, hits hard, and can switch into Entei, especially if Veil is up. Lum Berry is precisely for healing Burn from Sacred Fire, but can also help if it has to take a Stun Spore or something
Mimikyu because it's good and you really need Disguise
If opponent has Suicune click x

As always (i gotta start setting reminders) I'm late, but voting is now OPEN! shoulda been open a couple 11 hours ago but what can ya do
i know what i'm doing, and its extending the voting deadline by an equal amount

And as mentioned in the original post, choose one of Maushold, Mimikyu, and Mienshao to be next week's focus, alongside whatever set YOU think is the Next Best Thing for Porygon-Z!

voting NOW closes on <t:1771606800:f>

In a near landslide victory, congratulations to Winterbub for winning this week's Next Best Thing! Thank you to everyone for submitting and voting, and as per your requests, next week will feature Mimikyu!

Week 5:
Mimikyu

DiancieVividVoltage79.jpg

There's a Friend Inside those rags, and it ain't Me, it's Mimikyu! Indeed, as per popular vote, Mimikyu is the focus of this week's Next Best Thing! Sporting a unique typing for RU in Ghost Fairy, Mimikyu has the luxury of having access to essentially unresisted coverage when running both of its STABs, along with priority in the form of Shadow Sneak to make up for its slower speed. What really defines Mimikyu is its signature move of Disguise, which allows it to essentially have a free focus sash and survive one non-photon geyser hit at the cost of 16% of its HP! Your goal this week is to take advantage of this one of a kind mon's unique traits, typing, and movepool to see if you can't set apart the imposter from the original!
