Gonna try to not put too much effort into the dump post this time. This first edition of WCAP was a resounding success, and I imagine this format will continue in the coming years. Now I just hope the CAP team will find a way to make an old-gens tournament outside of CAPCL happen. Didn't expect to get this far but my team really pulled through. Personally, this was probably the most effort I put into any team tournament, at least during the playoffs phase.
Shout outs to all my teammates as always, already thanked you guys in the discord. Also
vwnz since you're not mentioned in the Rosters thread.
Outside of that special mention to
SHSP for all the input you gave me when I showed you teams, it helped me make better decisions and not worry as much.
I'll post here all the teams I built or had a major part in building.
Pools:
Brigtel VS One Last Kiss
https://pokepast.es/ab12317ddc1f75c9 nothing exceptional just good SR+Knock with slowking+kyurem, both of which seemed quite good into OLK. I thought Hemogoblin could pretty easily scam a win, and it did.
benladil vs MDA
https://pokepast.es/4a99a31b3c9b3567 As the title says I didn't build this, just modified an existing team. I didn't have a lot of time in the early weeks. Worked well
Brigtel VS MGDos
https://pokepast.es/caf896f8a822f1b9 A stranger team, I was big on cinderace for some reason. I think the plays were the main problem but the team doesn't feel so solid either
Fabriisse vs avarice
https://pokepast.es/3f20b98577491af0 This one is just a Spammernoob team where I suggested replacing Caribolt with Mollux last minute, with small other edits. Its good though.
Brigtel VS hellom
https://pokepast.es/4f042bf7af4fbdb1 I love offensive moltres, once again we see covert cloak ting lu to setup rocks on mollux without risk (among other things). Hemogoblin monstrous as always
Fabriisse vs sheepie_sheep
https://pokepast.es/e0c76be879c74646 Wanted to be solid against HO, I love payback ting lu and this zamazenta set. Team is not good enough against Rev though, that was NOT in the plan.
Quarterfinals:
Fabriisse vs turnup1
https://pokepast.es/9f0432d8de6a3eee Inspired by the success of other Rotom-wash teams. Maybe not solid enough into SD snael
Nemosse vs sheepie_sheep
https://pokepast.es/ed1d2adc2f87d4d5 This one was really interesting, built together with Nemosse, pretty sure TTar was their idea (orginially it had both ttar and ting lu). It combines a lot of ideas that I really like in the metagame into a team with a surprising amount of options. Alomomola+zama is a really fantastic combo that invalidates a lot of progress making attemps by teams that rely on kyurem or ogerpon to deal with Mola. Plus, it synnergizes extemely well with Libra and Ttar who have enormous generic special bulk. We have ttar providing both somewhat solid rocks, not the best but it works, as well as knock off which ting lu never could. This allows us to make progress into specific teams that would otherwise like facing hazardless/knockless. Its also just a really cool mon when you need ting-lu style defenses with more progress making, I genuinely think the leftovers is severely underrated on this guy. Idef Zama is extremely potent for cleaning as long as you give it enough support and don't become overreliant on it. This Pecharunt set is one of my weirder ideas, it uses toxic hex and foul play. The idea is to compress Pecharunt enough to deal with the three most annoying sweepers in the tier, Covert Cloak Revenankh, SD Snaelstrom, and Hemogoblin, especially since there are already so many mons where you won't be able to make progess against them anyway. Give it a try sometime.
Brigtel VS shadow0709
https://pokepast.es/338de080b808994e This was first based on an idea I had for championships, heatran provides very reliable rocks and is an amazing check to a ton of threats (will definitely talk about this guy more) with an Ogerpon that provides great knock off+tons of flexibility. The rest of the team becomes a little stranger, with Skarmory adding even more hazards and combining with Rev for spinblocking. I really wanted to try non-HO miasmaw as a breaker especially with Neutralizing Gas for those Alomomola or Snael/Gliscor teams, though pehaps the rest of the team does not do such a good job at enabling it. Fine team. It's Air Lock too!
Tiebreaker: Brigtel VS turnup
https://pokepast.es/e8e66ea247b99f15 Tera Fire Covert Cloak Revenankh seemed super devastating to a ton of players, including turn up's scout. Genuinely think Rev might be a bit much to prepare for these days. Otherwise the team looks like a pretty normal fat team, no need for payback on Ting Lu cause we have revenankh. Cresceidon to para everyone and help vs HO, gliscor to make big progress into fatter teams and enable the other mons, Zama with Roar beating opposing Rev, nothing surprising.
Semifinals:
Maxouille vs Mada
https://pokepast.es/e6ad697faed4b29c Combines a lot of previous ideas. Its not
really a hazard stack, but you do have spikes as an option when SR is not doing enough. Offensive Libra with healing wish is another set I liked. Here I think we can afford parting shot on pecha rather than hex. Maxouille played this quite well, none of the luck ended up mattering, I think we sniped the matchup too.
Brigtel VS Rubyblood
https://pokepast.es/4bcffa74a9acb630 This one is definitely more of a hazard stack, though perhaps it relies on Ting Lu too much? Spikes Hemogoblin was considered, emulating an idea I used during Championships. We got double knock thanks to Kitsunoh, and overall it shouldn't be too difficult to setup enough hazards to really enable the rest of the team (I almost couldn't due to a freeze!). During this week I also realized that nasty plot pecharunt could be really damn strong against a lot of players. It seems Rubyblood had the same idea as me, and he was right! Heavy Slam was prefered on zama here because clefable is very annoying and I didn't expect Revenankh from my opponent. One of the coolest games
Finals:
Brigtel VS HSBT
https://pokepast.es/7286ffd202e18faf I wanted to make use of Alomomola+Specs Gholdengo, it seemed like it could do a lot of work. I also thought, surely they don't bring HO after it keeps losing to me over and over! Its slightly janky but everyone here loves being wished up, Raging Bolt and Gholdengo wear down mutual threats, with Bolt normally in the back, and because of Libra we of course have to play Payback Ting-Lu. I love mixed DD kyurem and it looked quite strong into HSBT, this time I wanted to use Tera Blast Fire thinking it could really snipe my opponent's usual answers. Kinda hard to deal with Snael outside of bolt, you just gotta play fast paced against it. Its also part of why we're Whirlwind here. Idef zama+tickle alo should deal with the other 2 bulky sweepers. Goblin can be scary, maybe some guys could be changed to deal with it better.
Nemosse vs ILSB
https://pokepast.es/aed3a8c201b08bf1 Multiple people came together to build this one, originally it was a branch of one of my previous teams with Kyurem+Band Hemo+Snael+double defog. This one does not go to such extremes and has more speed and flexibility.
Fabriisse vs haxlolo
https://pokepast.es/cebba11a1721c1bf Classic reliable rocks+knockers. Darkrai can knock off arghonaut sometimes! The Venomicon set can be tremendously potent, as long as you don't get matchup screwed, and helps vs all the previously mentioned annoying sweepers. We saw tera poison hemogoblin as an enormous vulnerability of Haxlolo, since they almost always used something like tera poison Snaelstrom to deal with goblin. We were right, though it didn't end up being used.
Tiebreaker:
Brigtel VS haxlolo
https://pokepast.es/4da8afc98c8bcc8f There were many ideas and iterations for this team, we settled on Hemogbolin+Snael+Zama as something reliable, proven and strong into the scout, with us keeping the tera poison hemogoblin tech from last time. The rest changed a lot and included at one point heatran+revenankh, but I changed to offensive Moltres at the last minute because it looked so good. It was indeed enormously strong into what haxlolo brought, but hurricane proved too unreliable to use in the face of a knocking arghonaut.
Maxouille vs Enzonana
https://pokepast.es/778bbc642c22863c (details may be slightly different from the paste that was brought) Prep was looking very difficult for this slot so I decided to step in despite knowing very little about ORAS, yhe team got an alright matchup. Any criticism from ORAS players is welcome.
Ugly post but I don't want to bother with adding sprites and links this time
